    I've been buying equipment for slightly over 38 years now. Decades ago when I was using more standard plates than olympic and before I had a rack and many stations I was able to do the same thing these products do by just owning 3 short barbells and 3 standard curl bars. You just set up what you want before the workout. It doesn't really take up much space, is much less expensive, way more durable, and you can use as much or little weight you want(1.25lb plates up to 25lb plates.) Interesting review though.

      Albert, your are 100% right on that. The system you just described is what I’ve done 14 years ago and still have the bars and weights. I would be remiss not to mention the cost I spent on my setup is a fraction of what Blowflex and MX are charging for their selectorized barbell system.

    If you have a use for this kind of supplemental barbell it just makes the case stronger for getting a pile of "standard" plates. I have 6' and a 7' standard barbells in addition to my Oly set. I also have several pairs of standard db handles. I used the same plates for the dbs and the barbells (though I also have two 50s and six 25s.) You can get all that for much less than a set of selective dbs, and a fraction of the cost of selective dbs and these selective barbells.
    And the standard option is not just for cost savings. I have had 300 lbs. on the 7' bar with no issue. You can use either the 6' or the 7' bar for rows or shoulder presses while using your Oly barbell for heavier lifts. You can put an 2" adapter sleeve on it and use the 7' bar in a landmine. That set up is just much more versatile, while costing a fraction of what the selective sets cost.

    Absolutely my Bowflex 20-80 with the 120 upgrade. If the MX went to 120 I'd get them to go with my MX85 Dumbbells. Use them for superset and HIIT training and just makes it simple to change. They are only meant for me to be a compliment to my heavy sets and using light superset for quick changes. Not a big fan of Bowflex but I do like these a lot.
    People are always quick to state it doesn't have it place. Anything has it place if you use it.

    I never understood the appeal of these - basically using them for a small set of exercises (i.e. biceps, triceps, upright rows, not much else) - and they are pricey. All of these movements can be done with Dumbbells (which can do a lot more) - so not very cost effective for a home gym. I think powerblocks does it best as they incorporated the barbells into the Dumbbells so they cost a lot less and they also go to higher weight amounts so you could use it for some lighter deadlifts or even bench press with some setups.

    • @Somtric
      @Somtric Год назад +1

      You clearly don't know much about training. YIkes.
      Front raises, bent over row, overhead press, bicep curls, skull crushers and tons of other exercises. They are not meant to replace a barbell & plates, they are meant to replace fixed barbells, which is used for exercises as I mentioned and more. They are not meant for deadlift, bench press etc. You need to widen your knowledge of equipment and especially.. HOW you can workout. Because you are clearly lacking even basic knowledge in that department.

      @@steverapos3904 I made a perfect point actually. They are only limited as to what your knowledge is. They can do anything any normal barbell can, when if you max it out, use resitance bands for heavy exercises.
      Just because you don't know much about working out, does't change reality.
      Also, many people prefer not having barbells & plates, so there is a whole market right there.

    There's another option called "Taurus Selectabell" (similar to the Bowflex 2080 it's a straight and an EZ bar, up to the same max weight but it also comes with a stand). That's about 150 cheaper. A clone of that is also available for about the same price called TREXO 36 kg adjustable barbell set.
    Personally I would go for an Olympic barbell and weights but it's just way more expensive, needs more space and adjustment is time consuming. Since I'm lacking space and money I would tend to go with one of the adjustable options, especially the Bowflex 2080 as it can be upgraded, but the prices are still a couple hundred too much for the very small budget I could put aside for it. Still, I'd love to have one or the other.

    I wanted the Bowflex, but now owning the Jayflex I think it's the better option if you have adjustable dumbbells that are compatible.
    My feed back to Jayflex is to make the current one cost less and make a more premium. Knurled metal weighted bar that you can add weight into the bar. Since most adjustable are around the 50 pound range if you could get the bar itself to get to around 50 pounds you now have 150lb bar which would suit me and I think most people's simple home gyms. Or just make a 50lb premium bar with no adjustments and people can just adjust through their adjustable weights.

      @@ericalkalay6638 if you're like me and you don't have any traditional bars or use plates then 100%
      If you have adjustable dumbbells that fit it, using it is very smooth and I haven't felt scared. The only point of fail I have concern for is the ring but as long as you keep an eye on it I don't see it breaking.
      My other complaint is that for it's price point it doesn't feel premium. It feels good but not premium. I got the curl bar and kettlebell combo and both have been serving me well.

    👍 Love the idea, but neither of those offer an acceptable execution yet... You forgot to mention that because the ends of both those brands are not round, the weight shifts a little in your hands unevenly as you curl or when pressing go from waist to shoulder height... Would be nice to see how NuBell approaches this... If weights were perfectly round like their dumbbells, the max went up to 200 or so pounds and adjustment increments were no more than 8-lbs at a time (5-lbs even better) they might be worth considering. No one is going to bench press with these but for curling, overhead press, trap raises, etc. might be worth considering beyond the mandatory power rack... Would need to come in under $1,000 all in, including stand, as far as I'm concerned...

    • @Raymo2u
      @Raymo2u Год назад

      I think a better buy for what you're describing would be the Nubell set paired with the Hyperbell set. It would take alot less room up and nothing is wasted...that was what I am thinking of getting and using for home.

    • @mikethestockimpaler3049
      @mikethestockimpaler3049 Год назад +1

      @@Raymo2u I already have a full power rack & 800-lbs olympic weights; Gonna pick up the NuBells... I don't need anything beyond all that; the adustable barbell would just be a "maybe nice to have" ... But if someone doesn't have the room or money for power rack setup one of these "all-inclusive" sets might be worth it, if they don't lift heavy. Those hyperbells look interesting, but I wouldn't lift with anything unbalanced the way those are with the dumbbells on either end... These all-in-ones are really a niche product that only a small percentage of lifters would buy, but for someone that fits into that category possibly a good idea...
