    I'm glad I wasn't the only one that didn't put the two together that the Arthur theme song was not just a reggae song, but one done by a son of Bob Marley, Ziggy Marley when I grew up watching the show. Maybe because the theme song so easily sucked me into the show as the beat dropped harder than the Greek economy. The Caribbean is a region blessed with incredible music from Afro-Cuban jazz to Merengue and reggae. When the wildlife like the Cyclura rock iguanas are as chill as the people, that's when you know the Caribbean is the place to be

We’d been together the majority of 8 years and were now looking at splitting up to go to different high schools, and walking around campus singing the “Arthur” theme song together somehow put an affirmative punctuation on our good memories and made the future feel more manageable.

    Not sure if you check the comments, but, when you’re listening and playing along - in terms of the actual video - is it being done live? How much practice is done between edits in your video? Or is it all purely off the cuff? I’m so blown away with how natural and at ease you look when playing. (Obviously that so years of practice, but still).

      This would be fairly simple for any reasonably advanced pianist. I'm only intermediate, and I could probably do this, just not quite as smooth.

    • @paramourcat
      @paramourcat 2 года назад +24

      I'm not quite as good as Charles, because I don't have as much knowledge of like jazz extensions and stuff, but for the most part I can pick up a stringed instrument and immediately start live playing along with most music. Once you are familiar with your instrument and have a sense for intervals and the common progressions you can just kind of feel where things are going. If the music is too complex I may not be able to get it exactly, but I can at least follow the chord structure or the melody enough to play something that will sound good.

    • @shadebug
      @shadebug 2 года назад +24

      He’ll edit down to get rid of stuff that breaks flow but mostly you’re seeing it at about the speed he’s doing it. This is the difference between learning music properly and just learning individual songs. When you learn music properly you learn scales, modes and intervals which are all really boring but, once you internalise them, they allow you to play by ear.
      A lot of the time, especially in shorts, he’ll leave in stupid little mistakes because they’re funny, like flubbing a C major scale

    • @kumada84
      @kumada84 2 года назад +4

      He's so used to it that it's similar to someone typing - when you type you don't think about where your fingers are going, you just know what word you want to type and your fingers do it automatically. (That's why he mentioned that his fingers instinctively wanted to play more complex chords than the ones in the actual song.)

When I would sing this song as a kid, I would sing that Reggae influence even stronger, and usually in a really bad Jamaican accent, just because that was the only other influence that was associated with Reggae. But this song was a huge formation of my love for Reggae/Funk as a kid.

    Please listen to the Master of Masters Theme from Kingdom Hearts. The theme of the track and the character together just screams "planned insanity" and I would love to see your take on the piece.

    They should've made a piano instrumental version of the theme song for a few episodes or even the final episode after choosing to end it cause the theme on piano sounds beautiful.

    One thing that might be cool as an addition to your videos, when you're discussing chromatic notes, maybe have them display in red on the keyboard overlay (bottom of screen) as you play. I'm a guitarist, so don't necessarily think in the same way a keyboardist would.
    As ever, love your content. :)

    I actually heard 1, 5, 6-, 4 on the bridge of the original arrangement, although the 6- is short-lived.

    Hey Charles! I'm sure you get tons of suggestions but I'd love to see what you think about an artist called Cody Fry. He does some really interesting sounding music, the song 'Underground' in particular. Also if you haven't heard the song Guns for Hire, its a super musically interesting and unusual song as well. Love your videos!
