    I'm enjoying your videos - this one I had to comment. Get rid of those wire nuts under the dash. Wire nuts are for house wiring!! Not for auto applications. Nice truck!!

      Thanks, that is great input. I need to clean up the interior this spring. But it might have to wait as I’m itching to get rid of the low compression smog 882 heads on the sbc and put on aluminum heads that breath a bit!!

    Excellent video. My firewall Master Cylinder I ordered from Brothers Truck Parts did not come with any instructions or templates. Your solution for removing the factory under-dash bracket was extremely helpful since it will allow me to test-fit the new brake pedal assembly prior to cutting a 2-1/2 whole in the firewall. Thanks for taking time to post this.

      Yes, after a leak a friend asked me the same question. I went back and double flared all the lines. No more leaks! Always learning!

      It’s one of the best upgrades I did to my 56. I had put on a new master cylinder/booster under the truck three months earlier but could not get it adjusted correctly. It is now a year later with the firewall setup and it works superior and flawlessly. I now have great brakes. Safety first! Good luck with yours. Hopefully you get the correct parts the first time!! Now I’m converting my th350 to a 700r4 overdrive transmission . . . It never ends!

    NIce, I'm getting ready to order the POL Wilwood blacked out kit for my 57. Did you notice any flex in the firewall? Does the backplate sit flat against the firewall or do you have to compensate for the rib on the firewall? Thank you.

    • @edshandymantips4862
      @edshandymantips4862  2 года назад +1

      The firewall is very solid. It is ribbed, my kit came with a u-shaped plate to compensate for the rib.

    Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I'm in the early stages of restomoding my 1959 Chevrolet Viking 50 and I'm looking for the parts to move my master cylinder to the firewall. Now that you've made this mod, would you still recommend this brace assembly or do you know of a better product? From where did you purchase this product?

      Glad the video helped! I got the parts at western chassis westernchassis.com once I got the correct parts they were fine. They were helpful in diagnosing the problem. Don’t know how the parts got mixed up in the first place. Being a one off job it was difficult for me to tell they were incorrect as I had nothing to go by. That was my only issue. The brakes are soooo much better now! Really glad I did it. I believe the 59 is already firewall mounted?

    Question, I have a 54 GMC I am rebuilding and I was going to put a new master cylinder upgrade where the original one was under the cab as I presume you had. Can I ask you why you switched yours out to firewall mount over the below cab model?

    • @edshandymantips4862
      @edshandymantips4862  10 месяцев назад +1

      I had a brand new under the cab booster and master cylinder. Gave me headaches. Brakes would lock up after 20 minutes of driving. Cause was not enough gap in between pushrod and master. When I adjusted rod (hard to do) the pedal was too low. After hours of adjustments I installed the firewall kit. It works great! I drive the truck and safety is import to me. I also have discs on all four wheels.

    I've been told by several mechanics that the port nearest to the mounting bracket goes to the front brakes? Is this true?

    • @edshandymantips4862
      @edshandymantips4862  4 месяца назад

      Both ports on my master cylinder go to a proportioning valve. The proportioning valve has two output ports, one for front and one for rear. I have disk brakes on all four wheels.

    Were you still able to use your emergency brake handle?

    • @edshandymantips4862
      @edshandymantips4862  4 месяца назад

      I did not have an emergency brake system on the truck when I got it. Since all the parts were missing and the truck is already heavily modified I installed an electric e-brake. I did a video on it as well.
