It can be tricky sometimes. Make sure your cursor is on the door. Hold down right-click as if aiming at the door. Use left click to use the halligan on the door.

Good news for you, the devs did say the game is being worked on for consoles. There's no release day as of yet though. Awhile back they did say once the game leaves early access on pc they have plans for bringing it to consoles. In a few months (May 15th) will mark one year since the game left early access. That being said, it's likely the console versions are in the works rite now as i type all this.
