I was a huge baseball/dodgers fan growing up and ran into Darryl Strawberry in my teens at Mission Viejo Mall. This was in the early 2000’s. I don’t think that many people recognized him because he was a little surprised to see this young teen know who he was. This was before social media and smartphones. He shook my hand and spoke for a minute and was very kind. Will never forget that.
Shooting dope ?! Sheeit I didn’t know Daryl went that far down the hole . It’s great he’s been able to pull himself out of that hell and he looks great
Growing up in the UK, I used to hear about this guy called Darryl Strawberry back in the day. Followed him ever since. One of the legends of the game and a true icon. You look well bro, respect!🙏
Darryl Strawberry is really a cautionary tale of an athlete that didn’t reach his full Potential because of his own issues and problems. The player of his caliber was super duper underrated so sad. didn’t reach career he could have had.
Without the addiction, he and Gooden are first ballot Hall of Famers. In Straw's case, every time he came back from an arrest or rehab, he'd tear the cover off the ball. Imagine him just playing without the interruptions. Glad he is alive, well and enjoying life.
@@bigshanegillis9376 If he didn’t have all those off the field issues along with his drug problems and alcohol problems and baby mama problems and women problems he legit would’ve been a top 10 to 5 player of all time he was one of the greatest hitter as I’ve seen people forget the foyer scratch you can make a case that Darryl strawberry was the best hitter there ever was.

His first wife was beautiful. As a NYer I Never watched ⚾ then I buy the paper and see his picture front page busted for drugs. I remember thinking, who is this guy?? Then I knew his story. I wish him well
He was talking about being a drug addiction on probation. He was never going to get clean and his probation kept restarting with violations. It was a cycle
@@kevinkev9996 There's plenty of drugs in jail, bro. Often guards are paid off to allow them in, or they sell dope themselves. Strawberry just wasn't ready for sobriety.

Always rooted for the Straw, but how many times can one man let you down before you turn your back on them? Wish him the best but I wouldn’t and won’t be surprised when the next incident happens.
There is an expression called "wheelhouse", and u will understand when u search on Strawberry's name, and watch him swing as a young man. Normally, the way to get a batter out is to throw (pitch) the ball close to him (that is, inside), but still over the inside edge of home plate. However, and surprisingly, such a pitch was inside Daryl's wheelhouse. And he would strike the ball at its center with a bat speed that well exceeded 100 m.p.h. U won't be able to track the path of the bat. It's just a blur. I heard it from the stands in 1982 when Daryl was a high school senior. It's a thunderous thwACK! sound.
@@ktothec24he obviously wasted a ton of his talent and so did Gooden. Not sure why you're saying he didn't. He does seem to be in a very good place now.

Me too but he messed up his career like nobody’s business
He wasn't one of my favorites. He WAS MY FAVORITE!!!!!

Strawberry said a mouth full. when he said, this is a wicked system...oh WE KNOW.

That was horrible what he had to go through with the two surgeries and chemo.

He is a solid individual and was a tremendous baseball player. He made a few very bad decisions but he has showed how strong he really is.
He always looked so clean and perfect
You gotta do the work if you wanna get well. Realest statement right there
i still wore and wear my Strawberry 44 hat
One of my favorite players ever!! The Straw!!!!
Strawberry was the first baseball player that I was a super fan of, he was so smooth in the mid 80’s. I’m happy he’s at peace with life now.
Always liked him. Everyone does but I have a new respect for him now
This man deserves to be forgiven by MLB. It’s called Grace.
