Haven't been down to the canal and many many years last time I was there about 12 years ago fishing underneath Highway 8 Highline canal caught a 53 lb catfish me and my dad so hot about passed out under the bridge was cool and catfish grabbed it and ran it took 45 minutes to get him out I ate the bastard he was one muddy dude took a lot of vinegar to get him clean but there is Big Fish in that canal
High Velocity savage frog bite has sucked out at the canals for me this past year, granted I have fished much this year. Last year man, almost every video was a frog video. I love the frog, so fun yet frustrating haha
I live in calexico just off 98, i always wanted to learn how to fish in those canals and the spots to do some good fishing. Also i heard that those canals have alot of largemoth bass what kind of bait do you use???
chuck dominguez thank you Chuck for watching and commenting. I primarily use frogs, crankbaits and jerkbaits. I have rarely fished south of the 8 in the Highline. The first 3-4 miles north of the 8, you’ll get a lot of smallmouth, past that it’s normally largemouth with some smallmouth mixed in with an occasional striper. Hope it helps. I’ll miss the canals there in the valley. I’m currently on a road trip to new house in Illinois.

Thank you for coming by the channel. The canal is about an hour and a half from San Diego. You need to take 8 East like your going to El Centro. You follow the 8 East To Junction 115 off ramp and Vanderlinden Rd turn left back over the 8 then your first right, and head down about 3/4 of a mile and the canal will be on your right and left side. I've had better luck going to the left (north) versus going south. If you end up going, let me know how you do. Stay safe and tight lines.

I have several friends who do and they mention bluegills for bait and that they fish the drops not only at the Highline but also The All American then the nasty waters of The Alamo canal.
