My homie was the original DJ for 3rd Bass. HIs name was DJ Nite, from Nashville. I remember Serch being on Vanderbilt's University 91 Rap show, when he came down looking for Nite. DJ Richie Rich is so talented and so on point. I been loving hip hop since the 80's and it has definetly moved away from the DJ to more of a Producer and MC role. Back then the DJ was just as important, if not MORE important than the EMCEES. The Emcees even used to just be supplemental to the DJ, like there to hype HIM. Then the Emcees kinda started becoming the focus with videos and whatnot. Now you cant even say who DJ's for what rapper. If anyone even does at all.

Amen on the DJ aspect. I had residency in a club for 12 years in Minneapolis and I came in just after DJ's had to go record to record to mix and I did CD to CD mixing. I took pride in being my own hype man because that's what I felt I needed to do...in the end the scene was DJ's not willing to get on the mic and straight mix when it was all technology mixing beats for them and no personality on the mic. That's what you see predominantly in Minneapolis now...it is what it is. Just like any other job in the world today, it's automated and less personal. The cool thing is the young cats have serato now and can at least pretend to play with buttons and sl scratch a bit and it sounds legit. Even with no personality or real skills whatsoever. The cool thing is the ability to find music is much easier now, which was a real task back in the day where you really had to search for beats.
We were all lucky enough to witness some incredible turntablists/mfnDJs in the past 40, 50 odd years. Check out the Lord Sear interview where Pete Nice NAILS MC Serch on the interview calling him as "the Trump of Hip-Hop". They're still not together on good terms though.
So as u can see by my name here, SERCH is my nickname, for 30 years now. I had the same glasses as Serch and my friends just called me Serch and it stuck. Pete Nice is one of the most underrated, coolest rappers ever... and I myself am guilty of talking about Nice and Serch and their music--- but man, DJ Richie Rich absolutely does NOT get the credit and recognition he deserves as one of the ILLest and flat out BEST on the turntables, EVER. Making a statement like that, I'm sure I'm gonna ignite a lot of fire coming my way, and thats fine, my opinion is mine, yours is yours. I'm sure there are DJs in fuckin, shit I don't know, West Ham Sandwich, Iowa that are just NASTY on the "wheels of steel," and no one knows them.... but in terms of at least somewhat known names in the history and what I call TRUE SCHOOL of Rap, you MUST put Rich up there amongst the, well ill expand it a little of how I really feel, so top SEVEN DJs of at least the True School era... Of course IMO he's top 3 ever, but I know im a bit biased based on where and when I grew up: 1978 DOB, Myrtle Ave Queens--Ridgewood, Glendale, last exit in Queens on the Interboro, CYPRESS HILL ST...just a cumshot away from some of the skunkiest herb you could find, off Pennsylvania Ave,East NY....then u make that illegal U-Turn off Pennsylvania Ave exit on the interboro/Jackie Robinson, and u go to the "meat market," the legendary BONNIES, dead end, Marginal Point son... who knows about BONNIES.... mmm mmm...MMM.. mercy mercy mercy ...."
Lyor Cohen begging 3rd Bass to opening for Marky Mark???? That's wack!!! Cohen shouldn't have done it. Anyway, I got all 3rd Bass collection. From The Cactus Album to Dust to Dust!
littleoldal Right. I wasn't really a MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice, Marky Mark, but I respect them. By the mid-90s, all good things came to an end like the tensions between East and West was up-roaring and Biggie/Tupac situations were flammable even more.
+TheEdub1 they didn't write there own tracks? What are you on? Besides MCA destroyed them on a diss track. Beastie boys can rap circles around 3rd bass.
+President Jeb Bush If u think Beastie Boys have more skills then 3rd Bass u are high. And DMC from Run Dmc wrote a lot of songs on there first album Licensed To ILL (facts). And the only one in Beastie who could actually write was Ad Rock. He wrote the majority of stuff on there later albums. 3rd Bass had way more skills then the Beastie Boys.

Of course IMO he's top 3 ever, but I know im a bit biased based on where and when I grew up:
1978 DOB, Myrtle Ave Queens--Ridgewood, Glendale, last exit in Queens on the Interboro, CYPRESS HILL ST...just a cumshot away from some of the skunkiest herb you could find, off Pennsylvania Ave,East NY....then u make that illegal U-Turn off Pennsylvania Ave exit on the interboro/Jackie Robinson, and u go to the "meat market," the legendary BONNIES, dead end, Marginal Point son... who knows about BONNIES.... mmm mmm...MMM.. mercy mercy mercy ...."
Yo did you get me any of these rings, step off
We Miss 3rd Bass M.C. Serch & Pete Nice come back in 2020
Imagine having one of them dudes as a dad, bet they be getting drunk and busting freestyles in the living room
Pete... You are wearing sunglasses man, damn it. I wanted to see that right eye a little more closed off than the other while you are holding a cane.
so why did pete diss serch if it was kinda mutual
Serch be saying Backspin MY G!
The Bus was Gettin' Funky
Enjoy life to the fullest. Cause age doesn't play at all and it means business has you get older.
Lyor Cohen begging 3rd Bass to opening for Marky Mark????
That's wack!!! Cohen shouldn't have done it.
Anyway, I got all 3rd Bass collection. From The Cactus Album to Dust to Dust!
littleoldal 3rd Bass be like, 'Marky Mark is wack'!
littleoldal Right. I wasn't really a MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice, Marky Mark, but I respect them. By the mid-90s, all good things came to an end like the tensions between East and West was up-roaring and Biggie/Tupac situations were flammable even more.
lyor cohen
gets the gas face boyee
Damn I don't recognize Pete Nice ... He changed alot
The coolest whiteboys in rap history.
Ever heard of the beastie boys?
+President Jeb Bush The Beastie Boys werent cooler then 3rd Bass sorry. On top of that the Beastie's didnt right all there own shit 3rd Bass did!
+TheEdub1 Honestly, tell me some of there best lyrical work so that I can compare it to the beasties best lyrical work.
MC SERCHing for the next fast food restaurant.
Richie Rich has the best and funniest Lyor accent.
