People in the comments converting the naira to usd or pounds and somehow comparing it with how much they spent in their currency, making statements like “It’s not that expensive”
    PLS STOP.
It may not be worth a buck to you but to an average Nigerian 1m, 5m in our currency is BIG MONEY.!
Stop being insensitive, This video is about Nigerians living in Nigeria 🇳🇬 and we know it might be a good deal to you in terms of the service rendered but not necessarily to us, It’s pricey in Naira. Thanks.

These days people take out debt for weddings, traveling, vacation, shopping, cars and even food. Who sent Nigerians to not create their own make-up brands, or make their own fabrics and decorations??
When Nigerians entered the event planning, interior design, baking, catering, dj, tailoring industries.. did they not benefit from the lavish weddings??
So basically, the lavish weddings aren't the problem, Nigerians who haven't entered the necessary fields in various industries are the ones who did this to themselves.
It's like getting angry that Nigerians using fuel too much is problematic because the refineries being owned by Ghanaians means that fellow Nigerians won't benefit from the oil money. The worst thing is that you may not be able to wear the aso ebi anywhere else as they are not everyday wear and are coordinated for the specific occasion. If your friend, for instance, chooses peach and vanilla as the aso ebi colours, the likelihood of other friends choosing those same colours is practically zero. No one wants their wedding to be like a friend’s clone! So, you’ll have to buy new ones for each friend/cousin/ neighbour/colleague/family friend … We have big families, wide social circles and multiple community involvements. So, unless you rip yourself away, you will have engagements requiring one aso ebi or the other every week, sometimes several in a week. Some people have learnt to be assertive in saying No and selective about when to say Yes. But as a collectivist people, it’s a battle. You will either please others and hurt yourself or get good at suiting yourself and damning the consequences. After all, you can’t ‘come and dai.’

to be fair I think the people who can afford all the luxury should go for it, but I know some people can’t afford to but yet want the glitz and glam, and would break bank just for the wedding and wanting to be the talk of the town. but people need to live within their means tbh. I’ve seen Nigerian weddings where it’s just setting up a canopy in the family compound and I’ve seen the luxury weddings, like both are still meaningful. but those people all have different economic statuses. people just need to be comfortable with paying for what they can afford, working within their budget constraints and not trying to put up appearances. like personally I would invest more towards my post-wedding lifestyle than the wedding itself, especially if I’m in the working class or lower class, why would I spend money I don’t have on one day, as if life ends after the wedding lmao
