I always like to think the RK900 was designed to be way more ruthless and tactless than Connor, since it was his human features that were determined to be the source of his failure. Hence, more than just being an upgraded Connor, RK900 represented the death of Connor's soul and the corrupting transformation of his body into that of a death angel.
On this note I've always wished there was a scene where you could let Connor try to fight RK900 (a final moment of deviancy at the end of an obedient playthrough) and no matter how well you do in the ATB sequence, you'd lose. Then in a terminator-like lower pitched voice RK900 says "you're obsolete, Connor" and shoots him
