This is so very true! I learned on a recurve when I was young, and my boss just gave me this 25+ year old TSS Quadroflex compound bow that I just bolted a bunch of kit to. It is very heavy compared to the modern compound bows I have handled in the store, but could not afford.

This was a wonderful video presented in a straightforward, simple and clear manner. I am thinking of getting back into archery after 50 years and yes I am an old man. I will start with a recurve bow and it will take me a while to build up my strength. Thanks guy!
Sean, Your video instruction help me to tag my first deer with a bow. I got a new bow this past summer and practiced as you instructed. When it came to that perfect moment, it was one shot - one kill! Thank you for helping me to score and developing a love for archery!

I Loved this video. I am waiting for my first compound bow to arrive from Cabela's and I don't know a thing about shooting bows. Your tutorial helped me to understand the working of a bow a little better. Thank you.

This is the video that convinced me to experience the archery. Thanks Sean for all your tips! I also bought your book titled " Becoming a world-class hunter" I just finished the chapter 1 and I am already impressed by the maturity of your lessons and all your experience. Let me congratulate you for all your efforts around the hunting and archery career. Best regards.

Very informative, thanks. I tried shooting for the first time last weekend with a recurve bow. Was very fun and the guy seemed to think I'm a natural as I kept hitting red. Archery's on at the London Olympics today too so have enjoyed watching that :) unbelievable how many 10 pointers they can get at 70m!

This is awesome, I shoot a recurve bow and I've been doing it for a year and I haven't improved at all. So I'm going to the archery range this weekend and use your tips for instinctive shooting. Thanks!
Great Video. I watched it as a refresher. I haven't held a bow in years and I'm thinking of getting back into it. I now realize that as a kid I didn't really take time to learn about it as much as I should have.
I just got into Archery myself and I currently have a re-curve Bear Titan bow. It's got some power behind it. I do plan on using it to get used to shooting and then after maybe a few months, move into the modern stuff like compound bows and oh yes, crossbows.

Thank you so much! I now have a general idea of what kind of archer I want to be. I'm 13 and I really wanted to start archery since I was 6 and I've always wanted to learn but it is really expensive. I now have some sort of idea and the kind of equipment that might be required. Thank you so much and god bless!

Thanks for the video! Just got my first bow, needing a wrist guard though, hit my wrist with the string a few times already... This video helped me understand what the leather bit was for that came with the bow though (to protect your fingers), thanks for that!

Bought my son a lil Sioux bow for Christmas, he likes it but wants a lil banshee compound like his cousin got. So he's been shooting the compound and I've been shooting his little one. But it's so fun that now I want to get an adult size recurve :-) Thanks for the video and thanks for replying God bless in all your comments! God bless you!
Great stuff Sean, i should have watched this post before this afternoons," First ever Arrow firings," i didn't even see where the first one went and i spent half an hour looking for the other three, well at least i was smart enough to head into one of the three state forests that surround me. Excellent advice taken, Beauty Mate.
ok thanks alot man! i'm glad you got back to my question so fast and you actually put depth into your answer. i'll have to look into getting finger tabs or gloves tho because the bow i'm working on has a pretty heavy draw and i doubt my bare hands could take it for more than a few shots. that's mostly why i was asking. but thanks again :) god bless you too sir!

My friend has wanted to get into archery after watching me do a competition but I am a crappy teacher. I have been shooting (bow hunting and competitive) for about 10 years. This video is great but there are so many more basic tips you could give although I will recommend this video.
Thanks, maybe you can just pass on the whole playlist of videos I have that involve archery tips and bow tuning. ruclips.net/p/PL-rtLON_MVhN2OMGFmUvgbqrnjEEmrRhd God bless ya

Thank you so much for the quick reply. It really helped. I am going to practice more tomorrow, and focus more on keeping both eyes open. Maybe I´ll also go look for an arm guard, depending on the price. Today I just used a long "glove"-like ting :)

Great video.Love that re-string method, the behind the calf thing is akward and painfull for me. I just got a longbow and a recurve for cheap the other day.Been shooting guns my whole life but never a bow. I understand the anchor point is critical but what about where you put the arrow on the string(the nock?),does it have to be in the same exact place everytime?
Hi, just wanted to say thanks for the video, learnt quite a bit from that and I can confirm that getting twanged by a string on an unguarded arm REALLY hurts.

I really loved this tutorial because it cleared up most of my questions in a short time period, but I do have one last question: Is there any type of bow; whether it be wood or fiberglass, that I should avoid based on possible limb snaps or failures? I would really want to own a recurve bow because of its physical beauty and experience regardless of price, but reliability and possible failure points FAR outweigh looks in my opinion. Any response would be greatly appreciated!! :)
Great video sir. I am always fascinated by archery, and I want to learn it. I would appreciate if you can suggest me some cost effective equipment which I can buy. I have never purchased anything before and totally new at this. Thanks

Thanks for the video, it was very informative. Got my very 1st adult sized recurve today but I had 2 other youth sized longbow's and a compound over the course of my childhood. I should probably join an archery club at some stage soon too to learn the fundamentals properly.

Thanks for the beginner info. I have gotten a bow last year and have been procrastinating on starting. My New Year Resolution is to actually pick up my bow and start shooting. I have a trigger and an arm block, but do you think I should also try the other styles of shooting before I start using the trigger? Much appreciated! All the best! :)

Sean's Outdoor Adventures when usint one of those bows you did mention practicing shooting focusing on a certain spot when you hunt or shoot 3d targets do you ever aim specially like looking down the arrow or just still focus on the spot?

also stumbled across the pse stinger package which is also in my price range but does not come equipped with a mechanical release and the draw weight was 60 to 70 I believe.. I'm sure i could pull 60 But just want to be comfortable could also use your opinion on that as opposed the bear or bowtech. thanks sean

@seansoutdoor Thanks for the reply. I'm not going to be buying one for a while so I have some time to shop around. Is it just the type of string that determines the poundage or is it the bow itself? And I don't really know much about bows in general, all I know is that I want to focus on more traditional archery styles. :)

Sean, thanks great content. I am a beginner to archery. I recently bought a samick sage 45lb bow. To be honest I find it too difficult to pull back AND practice my form. Should I drop right down to say 25lb limbs for practicing? Thanks in advance.
Sean, i am wanting to explore archery for the end result of deer or elk hunting. How long typically do beginners practice before ready to hunt? If i practice 3-5 hours a week. I know it depends on the person, but just a round about answer.

Sean buddy! I have wanted to start hunting with a compound for quite a few yes now.. this year the money is right and am going to get my first bow. have done extensive research online and determined to go with a bowtech diamond infinite edge or the bear cruzer mainly because of the wide versatility between draw lengths and draw weights with adjusting modules, considering Iam a beginner. I have seen reviews on both and some say the accessories are a bit cheap with the edge but overall a very smooth now. both run around $350 to $400 for the complete now package. Iknow I have along road ahead with alot of practice. I was mainly curious if u have shot either of these bows and could give me some advice.. I wanted to ask you before anyone else I hope to hear back from you soon! oh and sorry for the novel lol

Hello, there! I have never done archery, but I've always wanted to start doing it. I'm contemplating on bying one as soon as I know weither I want to use a compound or recurve bow (and find out if my parents are okay with me buying a bow), but I don't know which one I want to start with. It seems like they both have their pros and cons. Do you know which one is the easiest to start with? Does it matter which one you start with? Thank you for making such an informative video, by the way!
This video was really informative, upping should really do some more. I just started using my bow finally that i have a place to shoot, but I've owned it for a few years. Sadly all my arrows are damaged or different sizes...

This is a great video! I used to go to an archery club but it was such a long time ago I'd forgotten a lot of the techniques so this was fantastic to refresh my memory! I was wondering what type of arrows you use because I need to get some more and I can't decide whether I should get carbon or aluminium.

Good video, I wan't to get into archery but wasn't sure which route to take, I'm still not sure lol. I'm thinking more traditional with a recurve bow. Which do you think is more fun? Also I am right handed but left eyed, my right eye has problems. What do Zhou think would be the best way to shoot? Thanks

@seansoutdoor also would you say a whisker bisquit'd be a good rest for finger release on a compound? it has 360° all around. I just ordered one, mainly coz i think it is best for crawling and stalking like behaviour for not dropping the arrow. Also a cheap sight coz i doubt i can shoot sightless with it.

Very cool vid. I picked up a Ragim recurve Bow last weekend have been shooting on a parcours nearby where I live... I absolutely love doing it and can't get enough of it :-D I'm still getting use too the Bow, when I hold the bow with my left arm does it need to be straight? As you can twist your bow arm while holding the bow vertically? (hard to explain in words) cos' my bow arm naturally twists so that my elbow is facing down towards the ground...

Awesome video! , couple of questions, defiantly new to archery, what bow would you recommend for a amateur? Also does each bow has its own advantages and disadvantages? for example a compound bow may be better for longer distances? Thanks mate looking for forward to the reply.

Hi Sean, thanks for the tips in this video. As many here I am excited to get into archery as a beginner. As I am quite tall (1,98mtrs/ around 6ft) and not very muscular, I'm wondering if there is anything that I need to pay attention to when looking for a bow to buy. I suppose that heavier bows put more strain on your back, right? Thanks!

I am really excited for my longbow. I ordered it from a very good shop. I said my weight, height and they make a bow that suits me the best. They also let me make my own arrows. Video was 10/10. Very informative. Thank you. Also how long have you been shooting bows ? Cheers.

Kind of really late, but I am really wanting to start something with Archery. I have never hekd a bow before and I was wondering what bow a starter like me should use, a Compound or a Recurve? Also should I take Archery lessons before doing anything? Thanks in advance

hey man great video! i just had a few questions. i have always shot my bows using my fingers so i have no experience with mechanical releases so. why did you have to use a different shelf on your compound when you switched to mechanical release? and could somebody use a mechanical release on a recurve or a longbow? thanks alot!!

Great video! But I have a question (which is probably really common): You covered different styles of shooting in this video (and recommended safety equipment) but what bows would you recommend for beginners? What brands are good, ( should people try to buy more expensive bows first or start from some price like 200$ (not sure if its possible :D)), what arrows and targets to use (on budged) and ect ect. :D Thanks!
Really helpful! I have a question. Is the hand with wich you hold the bow or shoot irrelevant?I just started but every video I've watched so far people shoot holding the bow with the left hand but I always get better results shooting holding my bow with the other. My bow isn't exactly top shot material it's a traditional 14th century chile's hunting shortbow so it's irrelevant wich hand I use but I intend to buy a recurved bow like yours so I'd like to know if there is a problem in that matter.

Ok THX for you're answers they are very helpful :D One last question, the loops on the string are not the same size, one is bigger then the other, does it matter where the bigger one goes, up or down on the bow? or is that not important....?

Hello I have a growing interest in Archery, longbow/recurve/traditional archery is what I'm interested in. For historical practice as well as maybe hunting. Want would you say a good draw weight is for a beginner or what would be a good one for taking a hog or deer?
Some states require that a traditional style bow be around 40 to 45 pounds to be usable for hunting big game animals. If you are new, depending on your physical build, you may want to start with less weight than that. A good option would be to get a bow like the Samick Sage with lower poundage, and then buy higher pound limbs for it when you get better and stronger with it.
YOu are welcome. As long as the manufacturer makes interchangeable limbs, and you can buy different poundage, you should be fine, but Samick is a reputable brand and I would trust their product. Good luck and God bless.

can I ask, what arrow rest are you using on your compound? I don't like using super fancy arrow rests so I was thinking of going with one of those or perhaps a whisker biscuit, if I feel like splurging. Thanks

This is so very true! I learned on a recurve when I was young, and my boss just gave me this 25+ year old TSS Quadroflex compound bow that I just bolted a bunch of kit to. It is very heavy compared to the modern compound bows I have handled in the store, but could not afford.

Awesome Sean, and thank you for sharing such valuable knowledge to your new subs, who are starting off as initiates.
Thank you for watching. God bless you!
Bought my son a lil Sioux bow for Christmas, he likes it but wants a lil banshee compound like his cousin got. So he's been shooting the compound and I've been shooting his little one. But it's so fun that now I want to get an adult size recurve :-)
Thanks for the video and thanks for replying God bless in all your comments!

Thank you for this, I'm just starting archery and this helped a lot!

Great advice as always Sean, Flaxen Saxon.
Thanks! Good to hear from you.
ok thanks alot man! i'm glad you got back to my question so fast and you actually put depth into your answer. i'll have to look into getting finger tabs or gloves tho because the bow i'm working on has a pretty heavy draw and i doubt my bare hands could take it for more than a few shots. that's mostly why i was asking. but thanks again :) god bless you too sir!

Great Video. Started archery and this has been helpful. I would like to see more like this.
I'm going to do a whole series like this this summer.

Great, I'm glad to hear it. Gid bless you
Thank you so much for the quick reply.

👍

👍

can you do some more "beginner" ? like how to hold arrows with our hand , how to release them ?
thanks for responds man :) waiting for it :)
Generally, when you load the arrow onto the string, you hold the arrow with one finger above the shaft and two fingers below the shaft.
Yeah, when I moved my channel to a new branding account, I lost all of my past replies, but I already responded to that with this video. ruclips.net/video/AorB3wCe2Rc/видео.html
Sean's Outdoor Adventures when usint one of those bows you did mention practicing shooting focusing on a certain spot when you hunt or shoot 3d targets do you ever aim specially like looking down the arrow or just still focus on the spot?
I just focus on the spot, which is true instinctive shooting, but some people try to aim down the shaft.
I'm completely new to Archery, and I was wondering what a good, decent compound bow brand would be and about how much? Great video man

also stumbled across the pse stinger package which is also in my price range but does not come equipped with a mechanical release and the draw weight was 60 to 70 I believe..

Yes that would be a wise decision. God’s blessings on your efforts
@@seansoutdoors thanks Sean. Keep up the good work.

How much is a bow and arrow and which would you prefer for beginners? a traditional bow or a modern bow with sights you showed in the video?
$260 for Dragon x8 pro kit
Hello, there! I have never done archery, but I've always wanted to start doing it. I'm contemplating on bying one as soon as I know weither I want to use a compound or recurve bow (and find out if my parents are okay with me buying a bow), but I don't know which one I want to start with. It seems like they both have their pros and cons. Do you know which one is the easiest to start with? Does it matter which one you start with? Thank you for making such an informative video, by the way!
👍
This video was really informative, upping should really do some more. I just started using my bow finally that i have a place to shoot, but I've owned it for a few years. Sadly all my arrows are damaged or different sizes...

Thanks!

Kind of really late, but I am really wanting to start something with Archery. I have never hekd a bow before and I was wondering what bow a starter like me should use, a Compound or a Recurve? Also should I take Archery lessons before doing anything? Thanks in advance
held* sorry about that

Thanks for checking out my videos. I appreciate it. I actually responded to comment years ago, but ALL of my replies were deleted when changing the main email on my account, ugh. Anyway, I am going back through and re-replying to all old comments so they stop popping up in the unanswered post column of my RUclips studio. As you can see, I included some links to my website and social media links in case you are interested in checking any of it out. Thanks for your patience with this process. hey man great video! i just had a few questions. i have always shot my bows using my fingers so i have no experience with mechanical releases so. why did you have to use a different shelf on your compound when you switched to mechanical release? and could somebody use a mechanical release on a recurve or a longbow? thanks alot!!

:D Thanks!
Dorifto Kingu! If you still need a good bow i will say the samick sage is a great recurve bow
👍
Really helpful! I have a question. Is the hand with wich you hold the bow or shoot irrelevant?I just started but every video I've watched so far people shoot holding the bow with the left hand but I always get better results shooting holding my bow with the other. My bow isn't exactly top shot material it's a traditional 14th century chile's hunting shortbow so it's irrelevant wich hand I use but I intend to buy a recurved bow like yours so I'd like to know if there is a problem in that matter.

hey, my daughter wants to get into archery, she is petite in size and i was wondering what type of bow and arrows you would recomend...thanks
👍

Thank you that's very useful information. I live in Texas BTW. I have heard of Samick, I'll do some research into them they may be who I go with.
YOu are welcome. As long as the manufacturer makes interchangeable limbs, and you can buy different poundage, you should be fine, but Samick is a reputable brand and I would trust their product. Good luck and God bless.
I just love the "thob'" sound when lets it go

can I ask, what arrow rest are you using on your compound? I don't like using super fancy arrow rests so I was thinking of going with one of those or perhaps a whisker biscuit, if I feel like splurging. Thanks
