Hi Austin I’m the director of a new Spider-Man film and we are committed to making the behind the scenes controversy even worse than this. Follow up for more info
@@bobbyb4024 and there is not a single generation of male teenagers in human history that didn't commit rape or murder. When you cast a broad enough net you'll catch whatever you want; the original comment is talking on a person-by-person basis. It's not hard for a single person to decide not be racist.
I did want to add, Gavin allegedly knew about the pedophilia going on behind the scenes. Some other popular comic book creators who worked closely in the project and left after the controversies began were saying that Gavin found of about John Salandrias pedophilic past from before they shot any scenes with him yet kept it a secret from the entire cast till after they finished filming the movie (over a year ago). This despite the fact that there’s a child in the fan film who has a pretty significant part in the movie. I also wanted to say, I watched the movie and can confirm is was quite bad and boring. It has no structure, no even the most basic beginning middle end structure thought in elementary schools. Quite bad on all fronts
That’s effed up. The racist “jokes” are bad but this is on another level. He potentially facilitated abuse and grooming in what is essentially his workplace, his set.

Totally agree!! I do believe that we should give some leniancy to people who were racist, homophobic etc in the past/ youth, but that is if they own up to what they did, understand it was wrong and actively show that they are different and know better now rather than just saying they have changed. Because there is a difference in saying you have changed and actively showing it.
for sure especially when it comes to young impressionable people online a little empathy and compassion can really go a long way in preventing hateful views and rhetoric evolve
I agree, having been a teenage boy with crippling self-esteem issues in rural nevada. Alt-right ideology preys on boys who feel they don't measure up to patriarchal standards. Of course that discomfort doesn't compare to how other demographics are treated in American culture, but it's enough to radicalize boys early on. I didn't get too far down the path, but I said a lot of bad things my first two years of high school. Then we left our far-right church due to moral dissonance, and I was finally allowed to learn stuff outside of the political bubble I was raised in. I really just needed to be taught why those words were horrible things to say; before, I was given no real explanation.
Also this isn't to say I and other teenagers didn't do real damage by being racist, homophobic, or trnasphobic. People still get hurt even if a teenage perpetrator learns later, and that still needs to be addressed by the perpetrator
I'm 100% sure that when I was in middle & high schools I said and did lots of stupid inappropriate shit. I'm so glad that I'm old enough that it happened pre-internet so it isn't documented and will most likely not come back to haunt me. People change a lot as they age and get more real life experience at being people. I try not to be a giant piece of crap now that I'm almost half a century old but no one is perfect. My advice to you younger generations is try not to suck but if you eff up, know that it's just part of being one of the wonderful and horrible members of the human race. Don't beat yourself up about it, just do better next time.
I litterally hated Trans people in middle school, (like 5 years ago) but i still never said any slurs. (I am no longer transphobic, I ended up making friends with a ton of Trans people on accident and then eventually fell in love with a Trans man, i actively try to learn as much as possible about Trans people and lgbtq+ people in general. And 4 years later made a hobby out of contacting transphobic people in an attempt to make them not transphobic by giving them a hand from someone who's been in a similar place.) I feel like the fact they didnt say anything they did to try and make up for their racist and ableist thoughts and actions, says that they don't really see it as something to repent for. Significant change can happen in 4 years, but you have to prove to yourself that you're nothing like the person you were. You need to ask for forgiveness from the group you hurt before the messages are leaked. Not to save face, but to be better.
and you sound to have made that significant change, and you really deserve to be commended for that. you're doing amazing work. so many trans people and nb people can't come from the place you can because all we've known is our reality and we can't understand what's so wrong with us. you were in that headspace before, and you've made change, so I can only imagine how much more you can help try to change minds. you might not know what it's like to be trans or nb first hand but you know what it's like to love people who identify as them and that's huge. I wish you all the best, I wish you and your partner the best possible. you're great
Your comment is truly inspiring! Because I’m feeling like I’m going down the same path you were going down. But now I feel there’s a way to prevent myself from going down that path. To not be controlled by anger and hatred.
@@フランクランドン there certainly certainly is. one path is bare and ugly, dull of hatred. another is beautiful and blooming with flowers, butterflies everywhere, a rainbow over the horizon, that's love
I understand this, I definitely had some shit opinions when I was younger, I was always pretty left wing but I did have a phase of believing that there were "real" and "fake" trans people based on the fact that the latter was nonbinary, or dyed their hair blue or some shit. But I would have never dreamt of attacking people personally or using slurs
Why should they repent. Saying a slur is insensitive and immature, it's not necessary to ask forgiveness from an entire race of people. That's sounds stupid. The best they could've done was understand that saying slurs is a terrible thing to do, and move on and become a better person.
The Matt part of this video wasn't properly researched. He was later exposed on twitter for saying things just like Warden and Gavin did. Matt at all was not "brave". His apology (which he later issued) was that of Warden's and Gavin's. Also, to better illustrate the backlash against this movie, most of the tweets shouldn't just be from one person.
Written 3 months late, but I'm not surprised that people defended Matt despite having the same problematic story as Gavin and Warden. I think this is mostly because the idea of destroying someone with a plan built for years sounded way too epic for people, so instead of saying "wait, but you didn't do the same thing they did?" they got hyped because it sounded like something you would see in a movie. Also let's be honest, on Twitter there will always be people who will go side with a person even after the allegations towards them comes out, it was obvious that people would support Matt even after everything was discovered. In summary, no one won on this story, everyone lost.
Are you dumb? Literally in matts tweet about himself he says he said things too that were problematic and claimed responsibility for it. He said it becore it was exposed
The most hilarious parts of all of this is when Jon Watts (the director of the 3 MCU Spider-Man movies) praised Gavin's fan film (this was before the controversy), and Gavin went and called Jon's movies shitty in a different DM thread.
4:45 Hard disagree here. At 22yo 4 years is a massive amount of time. I saw plenty of people go from scumbag to decent person or vice versa within a single school year back when I was in high school. Still at the beginning though, so I'm gonna assume he made it clear he hasn't improved himself at all, since this video probably wouldn't exist otherwise.
I’m from Warden Wayne’s town. We aren’t super small. We have a population of 93,000 which isn’t much but is more than a small town I’d say lol. We have a fairly left leaning population. There’s the University of Arkansas here. That’s not to say there isn’t a lot of ignorance, but idk definitely read as disingenuous to me.
Calling that Fu Manchu comment racist is... a hell of a stretch. It's referring to the type of mustache associated with the Fu Manchu character. We don't call people anti-semitic for calling mustaches that looked like Hitler a 'Hitler mustache'.
Unfortunately it's in part real, in some cultures the racism is so rooted that for "evolved" and mature people everyday is a constant battle to racist conservatives. I'm Italian and the amount of racist behaviours you see in normal days is pretty bad, some people don't even realise that "small" habits and attitudes are actually racist because most of them grew in this environment. Obviously it's not a justification at all, because I'm not in that group of people and I think they could mature instead of living on inertia, I'm just telling you a very sad story that happens in some countries like mine
Spiderman fan films have always been a thing on RUclips. Theres been many made some that are even decent. It seems sony has always kinda embraced it or at least tolerates it. Its pretty cool
The only thing I ever saw about this was the VFX guy saying he and his team quit, and I didn't want to look any deeper to give the racist guy more views or something. I'm at that point of the video now and I'm worried it's just gonna get way worse
Yeah, I was raised by a very conservative family in a tiny rural community where that kind of stuff is treated as normal. I genuinely didn't realize how harmful a lot of those words and ideas were until moving away from my family and interacting more with the normal outside world. I think as long as people are willing to accept what they did was wrong and change and move forward, that's the important thing. Edit: just made it to the last half of the vid and just want to add that obviously the other stuff is really bad tho.
Tbh. And giving middle schoolers/high schoolers some slack** If it’s racial bullying that directly affects someone, definitely investigate and consider punishment. **Because bullying is highly dangerous. But if it’s ignorant teens trying to find their footing in high school… idk if blowing it up on twitter is the answer. Their classmates will handle them well enough. People can change. Especially if it happened in MIDDLE SCHOOL or like 9th/10th grade. Teenage boys are the worst and say whatever comes to their mind. It’s what they do. If it’s popular, or brass, or attention grabbing, they’ll do it. I don’t think lambasting people for their dumb brain behavior years later is the answer. It’s a different story once they’re adults living in the real word.
0:00 other than ezra miller i don’t see how superhero movies lately have been having a problem with their lead actors… i know chris pratt wore a t-shirt related to supporting the police which is definitely controversial, but there are even many Democrats and liberals who agree with that sentiment so it’s hardly worth including as an example of “superhero movies having a problem with their lead actors“ cuz most fans of marvel are probably politically moderate and don’t care about the t-shirt this opening statement just comes off as dishonest and i don’t even get what the purpose of such a statement was, it just distracted me
It is a real shame these people are so horrible. Even though the product of their work was terrible people might have supported it and praised it if these people didn’t suck so much.
This is kinda random but by any chance, are you the same youtuber that had a movie review of toy story 3 (in 2010) from a different channel (that doesnt exist no more) , a channel called : film finatic?
You know seeing this awful film and how angsty all the characters are to the point of hilariousness and the poor choice of like emo rock butt music hit me, especially because of how much the director and the people involved love Spider-Man 2. That these are people who were teenagers during 2004 like I am, but unlike me, literally did not mentally evolve from that point. Hence the looking down on women, hence all the uses of the n-word the weaviness of it that angstiness just it's 2004 again in a very sad way.
Hello 👋 I'm Lorenzo, one of the two costume designers from the movie. Great video! It's the most precise video report on the controversy and there's no bias based on your personal opinion and feelings, it's just a good balanced and accurate video. I just want to say that all the recent controversy with new screenshots etc etc may be completely fake or fake in a very big percentage, right now any apparent proof is not reliable and also the "grooming" story lacks completely of background and explanation or context. So I'd just wait to see if more info will come out or if the involved ones will make statements about it. I personally met recently basically the whole main cast and many crew members at the premiere, got to meet their friends, relatives and beloved ones, and I personally have reasons to believe none of them are actually racist as many think, or at least most of them aren't (I'll never know for sure). At the same time I didn't connect very much with all of them, didn't like the attitude of each one of them and i think many still need to mature/grow up and experience life. I won't explain background or give more details or mention specific people, just to not add extra flame that on the internet could grow much more than how actual it's. My feeling is that most of the errors they did that made the controversy are not from hateful people but from people that's still not mature enough and are narrow minded for some aspects of life, I've the feeling they need to open their minds to grow up and they are a little too self focused on some aspects that make they seem careless but it's actually a wrong attitude of young age.
I feel, like a lot of pp need to learn how to scrap/delete their "homeschooled middle school" internet profiles, esp. if they hope to have a public career in entertainment. Edit: I do agree, that "cancelling" entertainers and creatives over bigotry is usually a wise move though, not bec. I'm vindictive but bec. in my experience those are usually the visible tip of a rotten hidden iceberg.
At the end of the day, he said he knew he was wrong but still did and said racist and homophobic stuff. When someone shows you who they are, don’t ignore it. It’s who they are.
oh wow kids, having an edgy phase in their past, it's shocking, oh my god its the end of the world. Its funny most people dismissing the film over the controversy but okay reviewing Erza Miller The Flash on its merits
didn't actually watch the movie, but i fast forward looking for parts of action..there was none....too much dragged out scenes of no meaning. YES, i didnt actually give it a chance it deserved if i'd just watch it, but all these other videos proves my speculation, i will not subject myself to 2hrs of this movie let alone 20mins. thanks but no thanks!!
I thought the movie was a masterpiece but I’m really having second doubts on it and I’m going have to rewatch it. I hope more drama comes out and exposes these people.
As someone born in super conservative and intolerant community i don't see the point at 14:14 as valid. They were stupid kids trying to fit in in a wrong crowd. All kids r stupid and violent to some extend. U can't hate on someone's passion project or whole career just because of his behavior at school (place where we learn how to be decent human beings). From ur info they r not being racist rn like u said at 19:41. condemned

"it's just a word Miles, your people say it all the time"
I find it crazy that there’s still some people in that community who still support him like also holy crap I didn’t realize you were nicks brother
ugh im torn bc i agree that comments that someone said while in middle school should be forgiven 🤷🏽♀️
Still at the beginning though, so I'm gonna assume he made it clear he hasn't improved himself at all, since this video probably wouldn't exist otherwise.
this movie is the definition of "what if dormitabis have a movie"
"Using slang makes you sound stupid," says the man using racist slurs.
I love the summary at the end of the video - I think it’s a great format that most people don’t use, and I appreciate it
never trust anyone with no upper lips

Nick got the adhd in the family, this guys so chill
This is relatable lmao 😂
....why did I just now realize they're related........ 💀💀
@andrewnoboa3839 nick is one of the few youtubers I see stand while making commentary videos because he's always on the move. Love him for it
Austin already said he takes Adderall.
Mental conditions don’t always present visibly on the outside. Just like OCD.
21:22 these screenshots are about the actress playing MJ not Gwen. I believe the name of the actress who played Gwen is Tuyen
Yeah I think it was just a small error of distraction he made, he said MJ previously in the video
This is the first I’m hearing about this and it’s insane
love your calm voice and ability to get into the nitty gritty without dragging out the video. great job
I’m new to your channel and really enjoying your stuff!! Happy to be here 😁 and kind of annoyed it took me this long lol
Sorry *95,230 sorry I’m exhausted
This is exactly why lotus is my least fav CBM tied with Madame web. THEY TURNED SPIDER MAN INTO A RACIST 🤦♂️

Austin calling the jitterbug a ladybug phone 😂
dang this situation just kept going 😭
this all started because a friend was left behind.
moral of the story aside from don't be racist and an idiot is to never leave your people.
I got a bout 40 minutes and fell asleep. I took that as a sign I shouldn’t finish it ngl
Most of the characters have exaggerated accents to poke fun At their ethnicities making it very mean-spirited and racist
Calling that Fu Manchu comment racist is... a hell of a stretch. It's referring to the type of mustache associated with the Fu Manchu character. We don't call people anti-semitic for calling mustaches that looked like Hitler a 'Hitler mustache'.
you feel naked without the glasses austin😦
that dude looks like ben platt mixed with that old comedian guy 💀💀
You have the vibe of a really chill taekwondo instructor. I dig it. Subbed!
Jesus, when i was 14 i was on dan and phil stan twt in gcs calling grown men smol
Yo queef jerky at the end jumpadcared me
why is it so popular?…spiderman is the most popular superhero in the world 😂
Unfortunately it's in part real, in some cultures the racism is so rooted that for "evolved" and mature people everyday is a constant battle to racist conservatives.
Also negate is a pretty big word for Elmo
this is such an interesting story, thank you for covering it austin!
1:23 nintendo would disagree
Another epic video from the austin green
I think its fair to give someone a break when they were saying dumb shit in their conservative home town as a minor...
@@CaseyTyler357 lmao I didn't make it to the last half
Tbh. And giving middle schoolers/high schoolers some slack**
If it’s racial bullying that directly affects someone, definitely investigate and consider punishment.
It’s a different story once they’re adults living in the real word.
these videdos are so calming
Did the grooming allegations lead to anything? Did the groomer or director make any offical statements? Any lawsuits or arrests?
i love the wiki😭
The movie is more like a summary instead of a movie
0:00 other than ezra miller i don’t see how superhero movies lately have been having a problem with their lead actors…
i know chris pratt wore a t-shirt related to supporting the police which is definitely controversial, but there are even many Democrats and liberals who agree with that sentiment so it’s hardly worth including as an example of “superhero movies having a problem with their lead actors“ cuz most fans of marvel are probably politically moderate and don’t care about the t-shirt
this opening statement just comes off as dishonest and i don’t even get what the purpose of such a statement was, it just distracted me
Why is it a European plate on the car?
I don't know if the movie sucking makes a difference.
I really like your videos!!! Heartbroken being the 70th comment but wanted to help support :)))
ive been wanting new content, so glad this..When are lives ?
It is a real shame these people are so horrible. Even though the product of their work was terrible people might have supported it and praised it if these people didn’t suck so much.
This is kinda random but by any chance, are you the same youtuber that had a movie review of toy story 3 (in 2010) from a different channel (that doesnt exist no more) , a channel called : film finatic?
Austin is NOT green, or is he?
Who exactly is green???
My feeling is that most of the errors they did that made the controversy are not from hateful people but from people that's still not mature enough and are narrow minded for some aspects of life, I've the feeling they need to open their minds to grow up and they are a little too self focused on some aspects that make they seem careless but it's actually a wrong attitude of young age.
shout out to my mutual Neb for being a real one
U should add music or sound design in ur videos
I feel, like a lot of pp need to learn how to scrap/delete their "homeschooled middle school" internet profiles, esp. if they hope to have a public career in entertainment.
Edit: I do agree, that "cancelling" entertainers and creatives over bigotry is usually a wise move though, not bec. I'm vindictive but bec. in my experience those are usually the visible tip of a rotten hidden iceberg.
I will watch it….if it’s free somewhere 😂
At the end of the day, he said he knew he was wrong but still did and said racist and homophobic stuff. When someone shows you who they are, don’t ignore it. It’s who they are.
How do you only have 8k?????
i just knew this was the racist spiderman nothing more
Yo new Austin vid
"white kid talking about rasicm" 🗿
Who are you and what did you do with Austin
Movie is great. Shame on allegations but at this point, the movie is out.
oh wow kids, having an edgy phase in their past, it's shocking, oh my god its the end of the world. Its funny most people dismissing the film over the controversy but okay reviewing Erza Miller The Flash on its merits
didn't actually watch the movie, but i fast forward looking for parts of action..there was none....too much dragged out scenes of no meaning. YES, i didnt actually give it a chance it deserved if i'd just watch it, but all these other videos proves my speculation, i will not subject myself to 2hrs of this movie let alone 20mins. thanks but no thanks!!
what is happening
Also, the film was so so so boring 😂
I thought the movie was a masterpiece but I’m really having second doubts on it and I’m going have to rewatch it. I hope more drama comes out and exposes these people.
let’s gooooooo Austin ⭐️
Hi Austin
As someone born in super conservative and intolerant community i don't see the point at 14:14 as valid. They were stupid kids trying to fit in in a wrong crowd. All kids r stupid and violent to some extend. U can't hate on someone's passion project or whole career just because of his behavior at school (place where we learn how to be decent human beings). From ur info they r not being racist rn like u said at 19:41. condemned
Non profit my ass
Well it's non profit though, there's no reason to believe the opposite
