Hey, I just wanted to say that I really appreciate your desert camping videos. They are a rare sight on RUclips, where everyone seems to be obsessed with the woods. I grew up in the sunny and sandy regions of southern California and Nevada, and I have a special fondness for the desert and i think it's so peaceful and beautiful and underrated. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us. You are awesome my dude!

I love the desert here in Southern Nevada. I hiked probably thousands of miles thru it. More "survival" video in the.desert would be nice for sure.
Camping I usually go to UT they have water....lol several times went moto camping and that was a blast, riding up some dirt road in a mountain until I find a spot I like and set camp !

There used to be a few channels that showcased desert camping/survival, they are long gone now.
They never received all that much attention, because as you said, almost all vids are set in the woods.
I too have spent alot of time in the desert,
It's not for everyone, which is good in a way, it keeps stupid people alive by staying away.
Being in a desert environment, takes more thought out preparation than most folks want to deal with.
      At least that's my opinion.

    What a great video!
My wife and I road trip across the country often, taking the old route systems and tent camping. I grew up in Southern California and desert camping has always been a favorite for me. The stars are just awesome!
One trip, we took Rte.180 west out of Fort Worth to Seminole, and Then Rte.62 to Hobbs NM. The desert is such a spectacular place! I love the desolation of it!
Got the road trip bug again!
    Thanks, friend!👍
P.S. Like the fact that you give the song titles and artist along with the music!

To solve the problem of not having measuring cups in the wilderness, i poured different amounts of water in one cup increments in my metal cup and scribed a line where the water level was. Now i always have a way to measure water in the field. Just a thought. Great video man. I always look forward to these.

Tipi tents are the way to go. I got a small Ozark Trail version from Walmart. Converted it to set up with one pole, seem sealed and put a coat of water repellent on it. Stood up to a decent storm in the mountains with minimal leakage at the door zipper where I didn’t fully close it.
Not a backpacking tent by any means, but easy to set up and break down and the extreme slanted sides shed rain with little issue.

I was reading online. The best time to pick yucca fruit is early to mid fall. That's when they are ripe. Likely why they don't taste sweet for you. You're picking them too early.

    • @JunkyardFox
      @JunkyardFox  Год назад

that information is innacurate. the fruits are long gone by fall. they only last a few weeks because yucca moths burrow into them to lay eggs, then the birds and insects eat at them. i assume the sweet yucca species are only found in arizona, not texas(the people desecribing them as sweet are all in AZ)

The bulb part at the bottom that is attached to the ground of the shin dagger you can cook in the ground with coals takes a good full day to nutrilize the sapponins but pretty darn good... Almost like a sweet potato sugary taste. I think with foil you could bake them and it would be alot faster. Sotol is similar and much larger but I read it takes 72 hrs with primitive methods..
