Why are you giving them reasons to be mean, also not everyone on earth has trauma so if you show a bunch of characters that all have trauma it’s a really weird unlikely situation

Nah, you just need reasons for their traits, motives, and worldview. For example; A spoiled brat, the reason she holds onto materials so much is that she can never find true love, so she uses those as a way to fill the void. Backstory to the trait; Her parents were busy people, and just gave her toys and such to make up for not being there for her. Her worldview is that the world is only fully accessible for those who have a lot of items. No trams, but a backstory to tell us why she has those traits

I think very few of us make our OCs normal, as in, mentally stable and there are no underlying issues normal, I am not one of them 🪄

so my genshin oc is like a whole entire trauma factory because girlypop was abused all her childhood and when she grew up she was tested on and when she escaped she was locked up for 200 years and then when it was over she was almost killed and when she recovered her neck was almost torn off and then she was trapped in a maze where there were traps and when she got out she was stabbed in the chest then survived and challenged a fatui agent and almost died and then joined some group of people and they used her as a shield and bait and when she got out her left eye was ripped out. bennett

I’m incapable of making an oc without some level of tragedy. Honestly it’s more fun when you write the oc to think their trauma is normal so when they bring it up to other characters they don’t understand why everyone is mortified.

Elsa (robot) backstory:
Whew, this is gonna be a long one…
Once there was a robot made by a robot company, around 100 yrs ago. Everything was fine, until the robots started rebelling. They were gonna destroy all robots that had powers like laser eyes, speed, etc. But… Elsa escaped. When she escaped, she had to go through the abandoned forest. Then a corruption formed as an eyeball head became a part of her, and she got hypnotizing powers. There was a group of people who were out to get the rebellious robots, and war broke out. Elsa was chosen to be leader of the war, since she was the only one with special powers. She also made friends! A lovely robot who had the power to manipulate people for 30 seconds, Marcy, became her best friend. They would fight together against other foes. One day, she was out on the battlefield when.. someone slashed her eye! A girl came by to help her… and her name was Lillith. She was a human that supposedly was on their side. She befriended her and she was actually pretty skilled at making potions and gear. Though, something changed. Someone managed to manipulate Elsa into disabling Marcy! She was very sad. She got depressed for a while, but still raided and fought. One day, she was raiding a wood house of equipment, but someone KNOCKED HER OUT! She woke up to be tied to a chair which was impossible to break through. And who did this, you might ask? ….

My favorite thing to do is make my OCs go through hurt/comfort (or hurt/no comfort) scenarios because… projecting, most of the time. I was hurt as a kid mentally/emotionally (trauma) and I can put characters through worse and *make their situations resolve properly.* Or don’t, and see what it does to them! It may sound sadistic but it’s more like a healthy experiment lmao

This reminds me of my oc Kiko. She’s a Cinnamon roll and super shy. She lives with her sister’s girlfriend, but there’s a reason for that.
She has a singing “gift” which lets her sing songs that were, say, written by ghosts or have magical properties. She’s a princess, and one of her parents wants to use her gift to annihilate their enemies.
SO that’s why she lives with her sister’s girlfriend.
I have an oc called luz with this kinda backstory, but instead she put a spell on herself to not feel strong emotions or she falls sleep on the spot. As to not allow herself to grieve either.
Time to look at some nice-oh damn, just gave some innocent child trauma again.

Traumatising our OC's is such fun. You get to give them character growth and maybe give them entirely different personalities from the impact of trauma.

Lewis has severe trauma from seeing his family die infront of him due to hunters, he was shot it the head during this but was rescued and sent somewhere else, he still has the fear in his eyes to this day + can still remember the gunshots which made him sensitive to loud noises, and always hides in the corner whenever humans appear because of the traumatic experience. That ends our description for Lewis.

B) He needs a character arch where he becomes stronger, but also more able to express himself and finds ways to face with or at least cope with his fears, expands his life in general, and gets a group of supportive friends - NO NOT 'SIDE CHARACTER FRIENDS', FRIENDS WITH ENOUGH DEPTH TO BE THE MAIN CHARACTER WHILE NEVER OUTSHINING LEWIS OR ANY OF THE OTHER FRIENDS - even if all that is wrapped in to one character, who has/have an equal character arc of development through an interesting, challenging, and heartstring-tugging story
