It´s not just that. Chlotar and Caribert was his ancestors, obviously. It would not surprise me, if he knows way more about what happend. He is their only hope left after all. He told Diluc the truth, but I have the suspicion that he must have told him something that we dont know by now. Something that Diluc finds so grave back then, that he even attacked Kaeya without any hesitation (despite their deep bond) and also ready to kill him. I cant stop think about what it could have really caused it.
The line Kaeya has dropped in his hangout about the inept good that turns fathers against sons also always comes back to my mind. I just cant wait to see what this hotpot will cook for us..

Someone over on the Genshin lore reddit(I forgot their username, but they were somewhere in the Bedtime Story megathread) explained the memory loss thing in a way that made me actually really like it! As of right now, the Abyss twin seems to be waiting for the Traveler to complete their journey(and to see if the HP will wake up) before making any big moves, and the person on reddit theorized that it's because the Abyss twin wants their sibling to see the truth from their own perspective and act accordingly. The twins highly value one another's judgement and the Abyss twin knows that if they tell their sibling everything from their own(biased) perspective, they'll believe it wholeheartedly. The Abyss twin knowing about the memory loss gave them an opportunity to be honest with their feelings and insecurities on the matter while not tampering with the Traveler's judgement down the line. I need to go back and find that comment because they explained it so much better than I could, I'll edit this when I find them!
Edit: I believe the original comment I saw was from u/Joey0519.

See that’s cool and all but that does not rule out the fact that Lumine is hurting her brother by staying out of his life. She has no regard for the fact that they’ve been separate for more than 500 years, her same goal can be accomplished in a different way by simply still being with him but letting him make his own decisions. All in all, I don’t like this excuse at all, let alone the fact that we couldn’t even see the full fight between her and Dainsleif over something as world changing as THE LOOM OF FATE!!!
Edit: ALSO FORGOT TO MENTION! She’s already met with Aether before, during the Liyue Archon Quest, so the fact that Hoyo feels the need to bait the story just to get people to play is getting annoying. And if Lumine wants to stay out of it completely, why would she still hide everything in this quest even though they’re gonna forget about it??! WHY NOT JUST SPILL EVERYTHING, see what Aethers reaction is! Makes no sense at all!

@@never_ending2220 I guess this is just fate at work, and Lumine knows that there are certain things Aether cannot know if he is to reach her desired conclusion (Aether knowing the truth of the world as she knows it). As for the reason he isn't supposed to remember the conversation, it's so Aether is still invested in finding her. Because if he knows where she is and exactly what she is planning, the pressing need to look for clues is lost. He needs to keep desperately wanting to find those things out for himself so that he keeps being exposed to Teyvat and its rules. This is Aether's journey of discovery; Lumine already had hers, and the game has made it very clear that he has to almost retrace all of Lumine's steps. To walk where she has already been.
Also, even if Aether forgets their time together, the player won't. Of course, the game isn't going to spoil the story! We must be kept in the dark to some degree, or the whole thing is meaningless. What would be the point of journeying with Aether when we know so much more than him? Genshin's writing's strength is that it encourages theory crafting and speculation. It's what sets it apart from the other Hoyo titles and all the other open-world gacha games. How frequently or infrequently that lore is disseminated is another matter altogether.

@@nightlove3574 but that goes straight back to my point! WHY HIDE FROM YOUR OWN BROTHER? She even said in this story quest that she has no idea what to use the loom of fate on. The fact that it’s just in her hands to be in there seems really dumb.
Also, I don’t know about you but we really didn’t have anything relating to Lumines presence in Inazuma or Mondstat. There were some subtle hints in Liyue and the Aranara quest definitely showed Lumine being there.
THE WHOLE POINT OF THE STORY IS TO LOOK FOR LUMINE! But this main plot gets drowned out by all the harems and character stories that it starts to make the player want to stop playing. It should not take 7 years just to figure out Lumine’s plan. Apparently it’s too much for Lumine herself to interject in Aethers travel but not so for Dainslief??? WHO ALSO TRAVELED WITH LUMINE AND WENT THROUGH EVERYTHING TOGETHER WITH HER!

The fact that Aether didn't remember is actually pretty telling as to how powerful the Loom of Fate truly is. He's not supposed to be affected by the ley lines, and by extension, Irminsul. But in this case, his memories were at worst wiped, at best being shrouded by memory fog. If the Loom of Fate can affect Aether who is supposedly a Descender, then it can definitely affect the Heavenly Principles, who is also supposedly a Descender.

The reason we can't remember just the reunion part is because that all happened AFTER Caribert dissipated. His realm of consciousness held on for a beat after that, but it was essentially "dead" from the moment he ceased to exist entirely. We were then occupying an afterimage of a space in a consciousness that didn't exist anymore, so nothing that we experienced in those moments really existed either. It's a different situation from Irminsul, which can alter memories but not reality (ACTUALLY, that makes it sound like Irminsul is Celestia's version of a beta Loom of Fate, huh).

It perfectly parallels with the twins conversation in the end it was just a moment in time we have that reunion even if both of the twins forget it in the end (it also a clear insight that only us the player is supposed to know)
Another thing is we have confirmation to how powerful the loom of fate is what caribert have is only a sliver of its faction, i know a lot of people is calling it stupid for having that photo but that photo alone is evidence to how powerful it is. That photo weren't suppose to exist the loom of fate can alter reality is much more to irmunsil who records reality but due to caribert condition thats probably the last that he can do to his power, now that i made my point imagine what happens when someone can control it properly.again by this info its pretty much confirm that someone has this power if were going by what dain said its probably the visionary who had alter a descender fate which is supposed to be impossible. That’s the stupidest part. Not only that, but at this point people are just coping genshin because they put so much effort into it or want to love it but aren’t able to see that the developers do not care.
The fact that the loom of fate can change Aethers mind is a big deal, because we know nothing in teyvat can change Aether since he’s not from here. However, that does not justify the ending we got for this quest. WHERES AETHERS REACTION TO THE PICTURE??? You’re telling me that, see that picture, he wouldn’t think anything of it??? Who cares that Caribert story correlates with the twins? THEY DONT GUVE US THE INCENTIVE TO CARE!!!

@@never_ending2220 I think your the one who miss something here, caribert is very specifically said that he wants to people to remember him , the abyss twin visit is unprecedented to the already established "fate" that he already laid down it being
1.he wants some sort of peace knowing that he "existed" in unknown time even though it is through what remains of residual self
      2. Caribert was the real one even if he already dissipated of what remains of him. he's manage to have some sort remaining memory for the twins, qouting he's words "you must get along the two of you" meaning that abyss twin also had a picture
To understand to how the loom of fate works, leylines is the data in a hardrive(irmunsil) the loom of fate is basically a hack of manipulating that "data(leylines) this is what they meant to alter reality it self, but due to caribert being only a residual self since the actual caribert is dead when he's only the kid. He's remaining conscience is a lose vessel for the loom of fate it's unstable.
(Meaning that he could only do so much despite how powerful it is)
Now back to the what's up with the twins
Again if you play the "caribert" quest you'll know the crystal/visionary he's words are vague but it's clearly stating to how he knows the abyss twins fate. (Also might be the reason why the other twin had a record of irmunsil be cause he already changed "it) and by the fact nahida also stated to how dangerous it is for someone to obscure"fate" hinting at the "loom fate" (I want to remind you that the loom of fate situation was back at 1.4)
I can go more in depth about this but might as well put an essay so here's people who I highly recommend explaining it better than I can( murder ofbirds aka genshin ghostwriter sidenote if you don't want to read in game books he already done it for you, catwiththebluehat, minslief, ashikai)
You can have your opinions all you want but unlike the meta players we lore players are eating good every patch.and from how little you know, if your willing to commit to it you'll understand despite the messy timeline (Because the games is not complete) how vast we'll connected and consistent it is.
Like to give you an example the "sea of flowers" that they're talking about? Yeah they already showed that back at one of the very first trailer teyvat chapter on 2020. Another one Kaeya voiceline about khaenriah has completely different meaning now that we know more about khaenriah
Genshins consistently in storytelling is honestly insane for a gacha game no less
Like this kind of storyline is more prone to soulbourne games.
(Although I do agree to travelers lack of reaction but in usual genshin fashion it'll come up in the newer update like they always do)

Unpopular Opinion: The memory erasure was necessary. Firstly, the Traveler needs to maintain his drive to see his journey to the end by using his reunion with his sister as his main goal (because she made it clear in the "We Shall Be Reunited" quest that it is the only way they could reunite). Secondly, the "Sea of Flowers at the End" is endgame stuff (likely Khaenri'ah arc since the flowers are all Inteyvats) and a clue for the Traveler that might tempt him to bypass everything else in his journey by skipping to finding this sea of flowers. Finally, that raw anger and distraught in forgetting is an effect that should be reflected on the playerbase in the place of Aether/Lumine. The "Traveler" is us and "the twins" are themselves, hence the distinction of names whenever Traveler speaks. We were meant to remember what our chosen twin cannot, and the only exceptions are Irminsul erasures but Caribert's consciousness is not an Irminsul/Teyvat domain but his own. When he ceased to exist, everything that occurred within that domain afterwards would be taken with him (or by the Loom of Fate).
Overall, I don't think it ruined the quest; but I think resenting it is part of the experience, for sure. We are not meant to feel good about it, because the reunion of the twins has always been our main goal. To have that ripped from our chosen Traveler, that is a form of injustice we are meant to remember in their place (which is why we have that final picture from Caribert). However, it also fuels the flames (get it? cause natlan is our next region) so we figure out "the truth of this world" and unravel the plans of all the factions involved (i.e. the Fatui, the Abyss Order, the Heavenly Principles, etc...)

okay but there's a difference between feeling injustice and resentment for the characters/alongside the characters and feeling frustration at the story/writing. when the audience hates something that happened because they empathize with the characters, that's good writing. when the audience hates something that happened because it was an unsatisfying/frustrating beat in the story, that's not usually a good sign.
I personally did not like this, not because it doesn't make sense in-universe or narrative wise but because there was so much build up and set up for yet another memory loss cop-out to some actual development of the story and relationship between the twins. sure, it's set up for future stories but we will most likely not see any kind of follow up or continuation, or even any kind of reference to this for another year. it feels like it just there out of obligation for the yearly Dain and lore crumb quota but nothing to actually move the plot forward.

    • @StarlightAnamnesis
      @StarlightAnamnesis Месяц назад +20

@@niteyknight503 What moved the plot forward is Caribert itself and the completion of the Loom of Fate. THAT particular information was maintained. The development between the twins may have been forgotten via memory erasure, but the fact we were left with a key item means the Traveler was left a revelation: they encountered their sibling in Caribert's consciousness, and THAT is the memory they forgot. This thought will likely linger, making them wonder what sort of encounter did they have with their twin and what discussions had ensued.
I don't think it's a copout necessarily because these memory erasures are actually a form of world-building. Aside from reuniting the twins, we are also aiming to understand the "truth of this world" which gets more elusive when we find out that Irminsul can get rewritten and now the Loom of Fate can actually implant memories. By implication, the Loom of Fate can even bend reality through weaving its own real Ley Lines. The fact it can even affect a Descender like the Traveler, it spells a different form of power not just limited to the seven elements and the light affinity of dragons. It is implying the true power of transcendence found within the Abyss, hence why we also get such a revelation about the Five Sinners.

the first caribert quest was a cliffhanger as well and we played a memory of the sibling, it was already thing that had happened so we wouldnt have had influence on that
and now its basically with this quest: well the eye you got in the first 1-2 quests with dain is now gone because deus ex machina caribert could alter dains memories and trick them and mc is like " oh i feel so sorry for you caribert"
its bullshit, like cyyu said why does caribert work with them if in the end he doesnt know what they do with it, what if their plan is just to kill everyone instead of saving them? then he is a killer as well it wouldnt matter then if he told them a bedtime story

This is just my opinion. The memory wipe thing doesn't ruin the moment. It feels like it as the player because we know that event happens but it won't ruin story-wise for the Traveler because it is part of his story. I know its sucks. The world created by Caribert doesn't exist at the 1st place so after the creator is gone so does the subsequent event during the process of its destruction. Now I know some will say "we still remember the discussion with Caribert inside his world. Why it didn't disappear?" This is just my own understanding why it didn't happen. Because the memories about Caribert are part of the Leylines, which consists of memories, due to his interference using the incomplete Loom of Fate that is why we didn't forget about the discussion with Caribert. But the place created by Caribert doesn't exist in Teyvat, so no leylines to hold the memories created there. That's just my understanding please no torches and pitchforks 😅

I think the reason why hoyo chose to erase the reunion is also revealed on the title of the quest. A bedtime story usually starts when you're about to sleep, causing you to forget what happens midway to the end. The Abyss sibling divulged a lot of information about her end of journey which they were comfortable doing for the traveler because they knew the traveler will forget. The sibling wants the traveler to experience the journey themselves and come to their own conclusions without being influenced, why that is, nobody knows. The sibling didn't want to influence the traveler's judgement because they hold their judgement in high regard, probably also to see if what they're doing is justified at the end (remember the part where she says "sometimes i can't even face myself") because she knows she did a lot of bad things to get to this point.
As for the traveler being affected by the memory wipe, bear in mind that the loom of fate is NOT part of irminsul, we don't exactly know the scope of power it has so it kind of gave us an insight as to how powerful it is and provides another major plotpoint: that there is a device/weapon that can affect even the descenders and im honestly excited about this new plotpoint

So, the traveler wouldn't remember anything after Caribert passed on. Also, the fact that photo can still exist even tho the traveler can't remember the reunion just demonstrated the power of Loom of Fate that it can affect the traveler too.

The Abyss Sibling only shared certain information with their twin because they would forget it. The Abyss sibling intentionally keeping themself away from the Traveller until the end of their journey has already been fully established and is nothing new. The Descender's Will is precious - the Traveller must care deeply about Teyvat in order to save it in the end, instead of chasing their sibling. Both the 3rd Descender (that the Tsaritsa is seemingly putting together) and the 4th Descender (the Traveller) should be able to use the Loom of Fate, as Descenders have the necessary Will to do so. What exists within the Loom of Fate (like Caribert's realm of consciousness) does not exist within Irminsul, btw.

I don't think the traveler should've remembered the conversation, because the quest didn't suppose to give us a REAL reunion. Our first and foremost task was to find Caribert and to figure out the Loom of Fate's meaning. We were also in the realm of consciousness of a literal dead person, why would we be able to remember anything? We couldn't even touch each other, because it's not the real world after all. Also, the Abyss sibling didn't say anything too important for us, except about "The Sea of Flowers at the End". They didn't answer our question about the Loom of Fate, they didn't give us more information about the Celestia and The Heavinly Principles, because Nahida had already told to us about their sleep. It was literally in the Sumeru Archon quest. So, idk. Why are people always mad at logical things. We still have 2 regions to complete and the Khaenria'h chapter. No way we would've known about the end game in a half finished story 😂

To me it felt like an easy way to keep the traveler clueless about almost every important thing not only concerning her sibling but about the world. Someone said "but if traveler knows the last location, they will go there". But how? Until now we've been told such a place exists, we dont know the location itself, its like telling a clueless person to go to Vanarana and they don't know what the heck you're talking about. This to me felt, short, rushed and honestly, to have something interesting in an otherwise less than exciting update because the important one is coming in the next part of this update: the summer event. I give it a 5/10 because the quest began really well, still didnt like how dainsleif just suddenly was there and conveniently one day before anything happened
