  • Check out our safari in Sri Lanka!
The safari truck picked us up before sunrise to tour Wilpattu National Park. The landscape was stunning and we saw lots of wildlife - monkeys, deer, wild boar, peacocks, eagles, lizards, an elephant and even caught a glimpse of a leopard.
Stay tuned for our next video as we make our way over to Kalpitiya, Sri Lanka.
    Thanks for watching!

Beautiful! I'm surprised that you think a bumpy 12 hour ride wouldn't be "Melanie approved".... haha!

Most tourists don't travel to north west Sri Lanka much, including local tourists. But this looks great! So much nature.

Good morning Marina and Trevor! Enjoyed your video as will be visiting Sri Lanka for the first time - arriving July 21. I planned on visiting Wilpattu National Park because it's not overwhelmed with jeeps and waiting lines like Yala is. But a few things you said concerned me. I'm a 70 year old senior solo traveler. You said the entire journey was a roller coaster ride. Did you mean that because of the bumps and turns and most of the time you had to hold on for dear life to avoid being thrown or falling out of the jeep?
Re NO bathroom breaks as you can't get out of the jeep - so for 10-12 hrs no breaks? Or did they take you somewhere every few hours for a bathroom break? Were they clean western toilets or holes in the floor? If holes in the floor, I presume not so clean?
    Thanks for your advice!
    Bob

hello and good day sir. We are so excited for you to visit beautiful Sri Lanka. We loved it there and hope to return again soon one day. We felt completely safe in the jeep. it was just a really bumpy ride, but there was no fear of falling out, the jeeps are in great condition. As for bathroom breaks, my bladder just didn't run on their time schedule so we had to be very insistent on the driver changing his course to take us to the nearest bathroom. Which if I remember correctly was a special educational compound. They had regular toilets. All in all, we had a great time. We hope you have a wonderful time too and I hope this helps you out a bit. And if you are looking for a personal driver, we highly recommend our Sri Lanka driver Samith Kavinga He was fabulous! here is the link to is website for information, and best way to contact him is by text message through his whats-app phone number which is on his website. samithkavinga.com/

When you said hi birdie, it honestly felt like you were quite loud. I hope I'm wrong because one shouldn't be too noisy in the jungle.

Kaudulla National Park is the guaranteed place to watch elephants. And there are no wild lions in Sri Lanka. Yala National park is the best for leopards, but Willpaththu also should be a option. Anyway, spotting a leopard has a quite slim chance compared to a elephant.

Wilpattu Park is overrated. Rarely locals go there. You guys should check out ridiyagama safari Park for lions leopards and that lion King moment And for elephants it's for sure pinnawala elephant orphanage for upclose encounter.
