  • This feature documentary profiles a key element of the 1990 Oka crisis in which the Mohawk communities of Kahnawake and Kanehsatake stood against the Canadian military and Canadian citizens in a stand-off that turned violent.

    These people suffered so much because of media propaganda and ignorance....I was raised with some of them. Never saw human beeings with such big hearts. Their role in the founding of this country is crucial. Can't believe that to this day they don't get the respect they deserve

    The contrast between how Canada treats Indigenous folks is not lost on us. Look at how the police supported the trucker convoy in Ottawa. Also when the Indigenous folks where protesting the railway because of the illegal pipeline on Indigenous land. People wanted the police, the trains and the truckers to runover the indigenous people. Canada this is not ancient history, this is in your life time. Your time.

    • @saintultra2737
      @saintultra2737 9 месяцев назад

      It’s concerning because these indigenous people are the only folks advocating for everyone’s right to have clean, safe water and food. They’re proud to… kill themselves and their country by destroying all the woods and soil with pollution. It’s beyond me. Looking in at modern consumerist society is sickening. I’m glad to see it slowly coming to an end.

    It’s real sickening to see how they treated our people leaving the reserves. Saying “if you don’t want us on your land dont come on ours” but it wasn’t theirs. The land is ours and will always be ours. Not theirs. So sickening the way the treated our people and continue to. Those evacuating were children and elders. Why would they have weapons. And none of these things would have happened if the government would just have resolved this immediately.

      But, the "Indians" themselves want to be separated from the "others" because that is the basis of all their frustrations and government support. Without the special status, there is no recognition.

    This is extremely biased. smh.
    What hapenned was totally not okay, but I understand why the Canadian public was so frustrated and resorted to violent protest. Also, tackling soldiers and injuring several of them with rocks DEFINETLY counts as violence. There are two sides to this story and only one is explored here.

      I don't know if you still think this bc comment is kind of old but my father was in Oka when this happened and it was very traumatic for my family. I don't understand why anyone would think it's okay for Quebec to "resort to violent protest" because they've only been inconvenienced for a couple months. Imagine how much anger resides in the Mohawk communities and everyone just tells them to "get over it." They threw rocks, trying to kill the women, children, and elders trying to flee the danger of the canadian army. There's no "other side" when they publicly hung and burned a mannequin dressed in Mohawk regalia, chanting "Savages!"
      We were defending out ancestors and our land from construction that would've destroyed a sacred grave site. It didn't have to go this far if only Quebec had sat down with the Mohawk and reached a peaceful agreement to stop the construction.

    I'll never defend violence but I think theres a lesson here. Ok yes the golf course was wrong but when you take up guns and close bridges and shoot at people you have to recognize there's another side yo yours and they are going to be angry.
