2:56 I remember very well when the press was covering the Miss Universe 1977 pageant, days before the final crowning night, both Miss Trinidad Tobago and Miss Austria were the heaviest favorites to win and low and behold, they were the last two standing, even tho Miss Trinidad and Tobago gave a bad answer to her question (The Far East is not a country but a geographical region of the world, she mentioned that was the country she would most like to visit) she managed to win, in todays Miss Universe events, the judges will not forgive you for giving a bad and incorrect answer. Just goes to show how much the pageant has evolved, back then the beauty of a contestant blinded the judges to the point of overlooking mistakes of the contestants.

Te equivocas, Trinidad & Tobago no contesto bien. En vez de nombrar un pais, nombro una region y luego solo resalto la industria. Pesima respuesta con rasgos de nervios. Colombia fue la mas acertada. Contesto con serenidad y carisma.
When it comes down to speaking English as opposed to speaking another language, the judges will always select the one who knows English.....and while Colombia was the prettiest, they went with Trinidad and Tobago because she spoke English. The other three contestants....Austria, Scotland and Germany did not belong in the top 5 this year. Miss Germany's gown was horrendous.
