First flew in to Shaybah in the late 90's. Before the airport was built we used De Havilland Dash 8's into a small strip in one of the nearby sabkahs. We lived in portacabins. The AC's gave up around midday and dust was everywhere. I used to drive out to one of the remote GOSP's at night, stop the truck, switch off the lights and just listen to the silence wouldn't have it missed for the world. A wonderful experience and would love to return to see how it has changed.
