Cub also overcoach/overmanage hitters and pitchers also trying to force 'unlocking' something that may not be there... it took Davey Martinez 3 months to fix all the stupid stuff that was unnaturally forced into Schwarber's head to take pitches and 'see' alot of pitches per plate appearance instead of what he was doing from the 1st day he came up, which was hit the pitch he likes and go for it and let him learn and adjust w time without filling his head w some of this stuff... Happ hit 24HR and drove in 68 in only 350 at-bats in 2017 and helped carry that offense as a rook, and Maddon knew it...then they tried to change his mentality to 'see' pitches and get on-base twice a game as the lead-off replacement for Schwarber... maybe Happ could have been a 35HR 110runs driven in guy all these seasons...
You might have a case with hitting prospects but not with the pitching prospects. Azolay was a top prospect and his original pitch tools weren't working in MLB. Remade his whole arsenal and he has been much more effective with it. Same for Jordan Wicks. They left his change up alone but messed with all other pitches. Steele is now using a 3rd pitch consistently after working on it a little last year and this past off-season. Tons of other examples for the pitchers too.
@@michaelthiel3161 double check all the changes this spring and the harder ramp-ups and 14 of the main Cub pitchers getting hurt and Taillon sweeper last off-season and what that did to him then... and the changes they forced on Adrian Sampson which got him really hurt and ruined his career as a good #5 who was reliable for 5inn 2runs.... too much unrealistic unlocking in situations that don't warrant it... others have been fine, but plenty of unnecessary stuff... keep an eye on Jordan Wicks also and the forced velocity push up to 94-5... never been hurt
You can't make connections with these changes and injuries. Pitching injuries happen no matter what and almost impossible to link injuries to player development unless multiple pitchers are having the same injuries. The injuries the Cubs pitchers have experienced are mostly not on the arm and even less on the elbow. They've had less severe arm injuries than most teams in fact. There hasn't been a Tommy John on a major pitcher in a while. For example, look at the Dodgers and their severe (TJ for example) arm injuries over the past 5 yrs: there are several.
And unfortunately for me back in ncaa, I inured a foot and a knee w changed made to my change-up that I knew weren't the best thing and tore my shoulder eventually... also my roommate and 2 other teammates were all drafted as pitchers and we talked about this stuff all the time... 1 pitcher made it to Iowa but never got called up... the good ole days
This guy is clueless for saying he wouldn’t trade Spencer Jones for Crochet. Jones with his strikeouts is pretty mediocre….compared to other top prospects. He’s inflated because he’s a yankee
