The only reason he was offered a job in heaven was because they wanted to stop he antics without a big fight. The big battle was after Wukong was given MANY chances.
He did achieve enlightenment by the end of the story, but Tripitaka had to force kindness into him.
This shows exactly what inspired the legendary Goku in DragonBall Z. It looks perfect. The tail, the staff, the animalistic nature. So good. I hope to see an animated series like DBZ with Wukong. Or Wukong needs to be in DBZ from now on

He didn’t drop a mountain on him. He folded his palm trapping Wukong and send that fist down into earth becoming a mountain. Mountain was called 五指山 （5Finger Mountain). He then proceeded to stick sealing talismans around the mountain warding off everything except one particular monk that will come 500 years later. Wukong graffiti those fingers saying “Monkey King was here”. Details matters. Till today when someone out smarted someone, he/she says: “Can’t escape my 5 finger mountain”
Then Buddha let him out and journey to the west happened and he hit nirvana becoming equal to Buddha

This one is new to me, the original story is not that Buddha tossed a mountain on Wukong. In the original story, Wukong was misled by evil or in other versions just too naughty. When he confronts Buddha, he simply drops his hand on Wukong as if catching a fly and forms and enchants a mountain dubbed the Five Fingers Mountain. In some versions they say it’s Buddha’s actual hand.
