- DREAMS COME TRUE PEOPLE! A few weeks ago Montana and I got to zoom interview Michaela Murphy, AKA the voice actress behind the blind bandit, TOPH BEIFONG!! Needless to say, she is wonderful, and the interview was so fun to put together, hope you all enjoy!

Speaking of "Tokka" there's something we fans should tell you two...
Hope you don't mind a re-comment from the previous video: If you're still thinking about doing 3 videos per week, Book 2 is a good place to start. It's both the longest & the least good Korra book. It's not bad, but the plot is a bit overly complicated & parts of it drag a bit, especially during the 1st half. Plus, the sooner we finish Book 2, the sooner we can start Books 3-4.

I will NEVER get tired of her Toph voice. That's a serious pro to hang on to the voice of your pre-pubescent years and be able to pull it out so well.
The overall energy of this video is so good.
If you rewatch it, there are a ton of times when sokka is protecting toph. She is always holding him when flying. My favorite is when they were in the episode where they were cleaning the river. The guy swings a pole over the boat and sokka ducks tophs head for her.
I have noticed that she always holds Sokka’s arm when they’re on Appa or a wooden boat (basically whenever she’s not in contact with earth), but I can’t believe I missed Sokka ducking her head for her. I need to rewatch the Painted Lady now.
Omg the way you two were SENT the instant Michaela started the Toph voice shoutout. This was so much fun to watch
I have a whole loooong rant about Tokka that I don't feel like going into, but hearing Jessie/Michaela talk at such length about Tokka and liking it makes my heart feel good. It's so hard because, like she said, we LOVE Suki.... but also Tokka in their 20s would be precious.

Best interview with Michaela ever!!! Thank you so much for this! Also to add on to the whole trust and protection between tokka, I also notice it in Korra where Sokka is so focused on Toph as she’s being bloodbended on. BTW it is believed Suki died young in the avatar universe so tokka is a big possibility (I think it happened, I mean they could have confirmed sukki and sokka in Korra but left it too vague heheh)
I mean one hint is that toph’s daughters wear those water tribe arm coverings so I think it could have totally happened 👍
Toph was a literal child in the original series. They were like family to each other and he treated her like a little sister.
@@spiritsaway most people ship toph and sokka going down the line as they get older, instead of when they were as young as they were during atla. the only reason people pull moments from atla as ‘ship moments’ is because that’s the only source to pull it from, besides post-atla comics. and i agree, the gaang as a whole are a found family but that’s doesn’t necessarily eliminate the fact that romantic relationships can develop within.

I adore Toph bc I grew up with a blind mother, and a genetic eye disease that's been taking my eyesight since I was 4 years old. And Toph and her portrayal really made me feel like it wasn't all bad. Like we can find a way to make it work and work with the hand we're dealt, and that was so important. Michaela did a great job portraying Toph imo.
I loved it when she said "I am not toph, I am MELON LORD Mwhahahahaah." Hilarious

I felt myself fangirl along with you O M G. Thank you so much for interviewing her, your energy together was just incredible! It makes perfect sense the voice actress behind our queen would be just as lovely.
I find it intriguing learning about how different animated shows are made. So hearing the voice actress of toph explain how she recorded her lines without the rest of the cast is interesting. Because of this I strongly reccomend once you get through a large chunk of clone wars you should look up the behind the scenes on youtube. It's radically different to avatars recording process.

Aaron Ehasz was actually the "Head Writer" on Avatar and is responsible for many of the most loved changes made in the show including Toph being a girl. Mike and Bryan get a lot of worship that isn't fully deserved.
Some people attribute some of Legend of Korra's issues to Aaron's absense.
I didn't really appreciate Aaron Ehasz contribution until I watched The Dragon Prince and saw his work in a new context. He definitely deserves more love from the Avatar Fandom.
The concept of the story, world and characters goes to Bryan and Mike but the storyline goes to Aaron Ehasz. You can clearly see that without Aaron in LOK the story feels rushed and inconsistent with the world they tried to build in LOK
@@Reedstilt I think it’s clearly a toss up. Dragon Prince lacks something in ATLA and Korra have. Scope? Folklore vibe? I don’t know. But like Korra isn’t perfect but it has something that makes me like it more than Dragon Prince but I can’t place it
basically Mike , Bryan and aaran ehasz work together they make a masterpeice and in one's absence the whole thing falls apart .

Toph kinda gets a potential love interest with The Duke. They hug in the last episode, and (at least to my knowledge) there was never any interactions between them, so it seemed like it could mean a little bit more than is shown
some people have theorized that maybe the duke’s real name is kanto, which is the name of the man who is lin’s biological father.
In the invasion, when Toph got sea sick in the submarine, the Duke offered his helmet for Toph to vomitting
