- On 15 December 1998, Queen Elizabeth II; Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother; Prince Charles, Prince of Wales; and Princess Anne, Princess Royal came together to help decorate the Christmas tree in Buckingham Palace. With decorations having been made by members of the public, and the tree's angel created by fashion designer Zandra Rhodes, the royals were visibly impressed by the outcome.

I salute the late Queen mother in this video. She was 98 years old at this time and was still able to stand unaided and still hold a conversation. May the departed souls rest in peace Amen

The Queen has left quite the legacy. She will forever be in our hearts and it is still even today difficult to comprehend that shes indeed gone. It still feels like she is here and thats because of the impact she left. What she was able to accomplish in her time is amazing. The most dedicated and loyal person I think I've ever witnessed.

It's around 15.22 and the auto subtitles showed as "Mummy how's you. It's rather good you think".
So, I guess the Queen was saying "Mummy that's you. It's rather good".
Meaning the decorative piece is good.

Amazing piece of footage. The royal family have always been exposed to extremely diverse culture, art, different ways of living. They have seen so much. I feel their minds are so open - way beyond the average person.
I adore the Queen. How can anyone else make a discussion about handmade ornaments last half an hour. And as for the Queen Mother she’s a total delight too. And well done that she came to support the Queen.
Walking into a room-full of strangers and making conversation with all of them may not be working down a coal-mine, but it is hard work, in its own way :-)

Absolutely wonderful to see the queen's mother and the Queen together enjoying the tree and all the wonderful decorations. These 2 I've looked up too all my life, as I did with my mum. I still find it hard that they are no longer with us, as I do with my mum. No one will ever be as graceful as our Queen was and no one will ever be on the throne as she was. ❤

It was so nice to see Her Majesty looking so well. And Princess Anne looked so young! The Queen Mother's response to seeing her portrait on a Christmas ornament was so cute. I wish it were still that time. 1998 may not have been perfect, but I know I was much happier back then.
I wish I could say I was much happier back in '98. Things didn't start getting better in my life til 2004.. But I do miss the simple way we all lived before the turn of the millennia. We had such hopes for the new century and 23 years into it, well.... It is not anything to be impressed by, seems the world is in a worse place than ever before..
I wonder now, what the Queen would have thought, reflected and said about the Palestinian victims in Ghaza. She would not have remained silent, and would have asked the archbishop of Canterbury to address the issue. We have most of Us become deaf , dumb and indifferent ! Some have been family trinkets going back to Queen Victoria, odinary people make some of them - with pride - and those famous in the day contribute also. The custom today is that Queen Camilla invites 'special needs' children to help decorate the Christmas Tree at their home - and soldiers lift the little ones up to place the trinkets wherever they want to. No pretentiousness in sight. ❤
Seeing and hearing HRH The Queen calling her mother "Mummy", with so much, love, affection, and respect shows that really at the end of the day, she was one of us and she adored her mother. RIP to them both.
I love how the Queen decorates the tree with her handbag still round her arm. She would not relinquish that handbag for all the tea in China!!😉😅
The handbag was her way of signaling her wishes to aides. Switching it to the other arm was 'This person has had their time with me move me on.' At any even placing it on the table was 'get the car, I want to be out of here in 5 minutes.' Throwing it across the room 'not another bloody new PM'

The Queen normally had staff inform her of the names of the people she was about to be introduced to. It was nice that she took on that role for the Queen Mother briefly, when she informed her mum of who the lady was. I'd never seen her do that before.

The Tree was absolutely beautiful. The crowning glory of any Christmas tree is either a star or Angel.
That oversized pink thing certainly was a insult to her Majesty's tree.

A Christmas fairy is a traditional British decoration (with its origins from Germany). It didn't look out of place for that time

Our late Queen Elizabeth was always very interested and commented on every little thing she was shown, every detail caught her gaze and she asked questions. As is now the same for King Charles - they always comment, ask questions and want to know more. #LongLiveTheKing.

As someone who was a subscriber to Mary Hickmott’s New Stitches magazine during this time period I can assure you that the ornaments were made by people from around the world and not just by people in the commonwealth. Besides ornaments made by people in the USA there were also ornaments made by people in Japan and other countries. In fact there were so many ornaments made that they could not fit them all on the royal Christmas tree. There was another Christmas tree at the Victoria and Albert Museum that showed off more of the handmade Christmas ornaments. I hope you take the opportunity to start making your own handmade Christmas ornaments.

Look up the video of her thank you speech at her 100th birthday…It will amaze you! The Queen Mother had an absolutely beautiful voice and was so gracious right up until the end of her life…I have only heard her speak a handful of times, but each one left a mark.
In the original "Spitting Image" they gave her a broad Brummie accent :-)

This was a fun video to watch
As someone who used to subscribed to Mary Hickmott’s New Stitches magazine I am fortunate to have many of the patterns to these ornaments. I was not able to make anything for the queen’s Christmas tree as at that time I did not have the knowledge of how to turn my cross stitching into an ornament. I have already seen pictures of the ornaments in the magazine but seeing this video is even better.
I feel sorry for the poor guy who had to climb the ladder to put the pink fairy at the top of the tree.

Me 25% british,75% german, became british in Düsseldorf 2012, because of Elizabeth II..my british Grandfather died 14.8.2023, being 95 and he was still "fit" 3-4months before he died....and today, I saw the Queen on 6.06.22 doing the Paddington Show..and being dead 3month later...that gave me comfort, because I kept on asking myself, was there something I could have done for my beloved Grandfather..but if the queen, who had the best doctors, died within 3mths after being fit for her age, it shows that People at this age, could die any Time...RIP, Dear Grandfather , dear Majesty

We loved the Queen and Queen Mother here in the USA, but my grandfather was born in London in 1901.
That year 1998, the Queen Mother was 98 years old still walking and well healthier. Her elder daughter Queen Elizabeth II was 96 years old died.

Putting it on a table. Swapping arms when carrying it, Picking it up from a resting place, It was even on the dining table, to signal the next course be brought, or eating to end soon.
