My Drill Sgt asked me why I joined. I was going to be homeless 2 weeks had I not enlisted. The Army provided me with EVERYTHING I NEEDED to survive. Some may laugh, who cares if they do. I needed it and I am grateful I did.

Nothing about my life will ever be the same again. After my high school graduation I turned to alcahol for a good 3 years but I'm now 1.5 years sober. Now I'm trying to join the Minmesota National Guard.

I took care of my mommy until she passed away and the day she passed away everyone said I was not grieving I am still grieving 6 years later she was my best friend
I can totally relate to this, my brother, tough guy military dude, thought I am some kind of alien, my aunts and uncle thought I am some sort of heartless monster but when you are the only one there in the hours which matter the most, not the final ones but the ones before that, when shit hits the fan, you know whats coming. You are prepared and have to tuck away your feelings for other things like what happens to the house, to the dogs, to the disabled brother that needs to be taken care of in my case. Who pays and organizes the burial. This feeling though, I think, will never go away. See it as a bittersweet reminder of your loved ones. At least I try to do that.

I have to practice what I preach everyday my feet touch the ground and some days or weeks I struggle. Faith my friend, faith will ultimately be your intimacy you've longed for and before you know it someday, someone is gonna be in your life. Let it be on terms ither than yours though. That uniform is a travesty, I understand the need to fly the US flag.....but the flag is NEVER in a running away position. Other than that, I appreciate everything FFDP does for the Veterans, they have brought more awareness to the lack of care many of us have faced. Hooah!!
It's a bad Photoshop of a Norwegian soldier. Whoever did the edit clearly didn't know how a flag on a uniform is supposed to look, and didn't bother to remove the other NOR flag. It doesn't even look like the US flag one is a proper patch, doesn't have a border.
