I don’t believe systemic change is possible because I don’t believe systemic change can be brought about through the system. The system is not fit for the 21st century. The work and pensions secretary, Therese Coffey, has said she will not publish five official reports into how the department handles helping the vulnerable, or how many people have died as a result of being denied disability benefits.
    The publication of these reports was promised by Coffey’s predecessors, following claims that thousands of disabled people had died since the Conservatives came into power in 2010. The true number still isn’t known, but it was found that over 17,000 people died between 2013 and 2019 whilst waiting for decisions to be made over their benefit claims. In 2020, we learned that 5,000 disabled people died still waiting to be reimbursed by the government to the tune of £16m in underpaid benefits

    I don't think everyone has quite realised the extent to which society is going to be affected by what's coming down the tracks. With energy prices so exorbitantly high, hospitality will be on its knees and the vast majority of venues will probably be forced to close. Even those that remain open will struggle to survive as they will have no choice but to increase their prices that many will simply not be able to afford. With pubs, cafes, restaurants, cinemas and clubs closed, we'll effectively be in a form of semi-lockdown, indefinitely.
    But if that happens, it may well prove to be a decent breeding ground for dissent to grow, and the Enough is Enough movement shows just how quickly people can be galvanised. I'm not usually one for hyperbolic predictions but if the government doesn't get a handle on what's going on and ignores the public mood, I don't think they'll be in power for much longer.

    Too many working people I've spoken to over the years say things like 'that's how it is', 'she's the boss' (the queen), 'there'll always be rich and poor', 'people must know their place' etc..Yet when I've questioned them further the answer almost always boils down to 'what can they do' or 'there's no point in complaining'. So when I ask these people, 'If you could change one thing, what would it be?' the answers vary but it shows a glimmer of hope is still there.
    We need real Leaders at this point in our history, men like Mick Lynch and Eddie Dempsey who can get people believing that if working people stand together we can make this country a much better place for all, and as for the wealthy, powerful 'entrepreneurs' who don't fancy sharing their wealth I've got just one thing to say;

    The unions are speaking for the people of this country. It’s incredibly disappointing that political parties are failing to do so. Starmer tries but he isn’t convincing to those who need to hear him the most. To put it bluntly he’s too much of an intellectual he hasn’t got the ability to reach people. Johnson could, it was lies but working people eager to have someone they thought understood their needs fell for it. Time like in NZ to appoint a leader who has that ability before the election. Put Starmer into a Cabinet position where his obvious abilities are needed. Home office? Angela Raynor, Chris Bryant maybe have that touch needed. I prefer Angela but floating voters may prefer Bryant.

      The fact that Sir Keir is named after one of the founders of the Labour movement, leads me to believe he is heir to a socialist dynasty and symptomatic of the fact that the left have become a facsimile of the Tory’s, educated at the same schools and with the same born to rule attitude and detached contempt for the general public. His ‘leadership’ of Labour during the recent round of strikes has done little to dissuade me of that.
      Two cheeks of the same arse as someone once noted.

      If you think that Labour would make any significant changes, regardless of who their leader is, you're living in cloud cuckoo land. The most we can expect from Labour is that they'll be very slightly better than the Tories, that they won't be 'quite' as bad... What a sorry state of affairs.
