  • We live in a frenetically overstimulating world.
Slowing down.... being still.... focusing on what some would call quiet, (The ambient sounds that surround us) is a challenge.
Honestly, in the times we live in, mastering this stillness could be considered an art form.
This is an original short-form documentary showcasing the ancient technique of Mokuhanga, or wood block print making.
We follow artist, Andy Farkas through his production process of a singular artwork print. In doing so, we have the chance to slow down, to revel in story and stillness.
    Filmed in Asheville, NC 2015/2016
All camera and Production- Aaron Morrell

Love watching this process of wood block printing unfold. If you guys liked this, check out David Bull's series of recreating the great wave. It's STUNNING the lengths he went to in order to faithfully recreate the original version. He also is an amazing historian discussing legendary carver/print makers and the history of this art.

Thanks! That creative spirit is both elusive and everywhere all at once. Which keeps it an amazing mystery and joy to harness when it's captured. :)
