  • When the tide is low on the Thames all sorts of treasures and fragments of history are revealed and are waiting to be discovered - all of them with fascinating stories. Last week I met up with Ted Sandling who is the Author of "A Mudlark's Treasures - London in Fragments". Over the course of a couple of hours we found some wonderful treasures including a vintage sardine tin. Now did you realise that a vintage sardine tin can actually be a very exciting find?! Well yes it can. It is just one of the wonderful objects that the low tide revealed for us.
    You also have the chance to win a free copy of Ted's book "A Mudlarks Treasures - London in Fragments" we have 3 to give away and all you need to do is comment in the comments section followed by #AMudlarksTreasures
    I'll be drawing the winners on Sunday 30th May.
    If you would like to buy Ted's book (I love it by the way - and I think you will too if you love mudlarking), then a new edition is coming out on 18th May and you can find it here in this link as well as in any good bookshop.
    smarturl.it/amudlarkstreasures
    It is also available as an audiobook here on audible - from 18th May:-
    www.audible.co.uk/pd/A-Mudlar...
    Thank you for watching everyone. If you are tempted to try mudlarking then you need a permit from the Port of London Authority and you can find all the details on their website here:-
    www.pla.co.uk/Environment/Tha...
    You can follow Ted on instagram and twitter @tedsandling and you can follow me on
    @tidelineart
    See you soon.

      I know that this would be definitely be my hobby if I lived in London! Not much like it available in Australia, I am afraid, but I do fondly recall coming across and old midden with my siblings when I was about 8 years old. It was in a back paddock on a farm near ours and it was filled with old bottles and a broken soup tureen, parts of a broken old fashioned pram, and lots of other stuff that might have been up to 100 years old. Mum was livid when we decided to cart a whole stack of rubbish back onto our farm!!. I would love to go on a mudlarking ramble anywhere in the UK. Tidal rivers are fascinating in themselves. Love this channel,- and the beautiful French read aloud too! Did you learn the language at school or live in France for a while, Nicola?

    What an interesting man Ted is. Who would think that a rusty sardine tin could tell us so much? You really have found a kindred spirit. A book written by him would be easy reading and informative.

    It's always so amazing to see the great variety of historical treasures along the Thames River. Nicola White, You are my Favourite! Ted you too have such keen eyes finding treasure on the foreshore! So jealous of you guys there! Your videos make me want to visit England on a learning permit to mudlark there. A former USAF Military man stationed there years ago (1990) at RAF Chicksands. So many fond memories of friends made, places travelled, Historical sights visited, there's so much History there... everywhere you go! Keep on Mudlarking! #AMudlarksTreasures.

    #"A Mudlark's Treasures - London in Fragments". Looks like a splendid book to learn about the things that show up when people go looking for treasures from history.
