That plastic cover piece that you have to remove on the door handle is the most poorly designed feature on the vehicle. It's virtually impossible to remove it without breaking the plastic cover
It probably has a regular battery. Some of them are located in the truck (right rear compartment) near the strut. There’s a little cover of the trunk carpeting that you can remove, assuming it’s not in the engine bay like most batteries
My Tucson battery died and had to do this. This should be a warranty recall. I drive plenty in both modes and shouldn’t have to be concerned about this.
This is excellent; it was freezing cold and my car wouldn't start. I was about to jump start the car, but thought I would google whether there was a fix specific to the Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid. I found this video and was able to successfully reset the battery and start the car.
My problem was that I left something plugged in the 12v cigarette lighter socket. My old car (non-hybrid) didn't have any issues with that, but my ioniq didn't like it.

Happened to me today. No reason why. Hyundai sonata hybrid is 2021. Only has 16,500 miles! Thank goodness my friend's son figured out how to reset the car! Door handle was extremely difficult to open manually. I'm so upset. New car, hardly ever driven! I'm calling Hyundai tomorrow as today is a Sunday! I could've been stranded! Not cool!
Will the 12V reset switch work for my 2020 Hyundai Sonata hybrid limited (33,000 miles) with solar panel? The car doesn't have a 12V battery, only the lithium ion battery. Twice in the past 4 months the car had no power even though it was parked in the sun all day. I had to open the door with the mechanical key. When I did the car had no power. Even the dash LED red security light wasn't blinking. The FOB and the Blue Link App. didn't work. I was stranded. Both times Hyundai roadside came and they jumped started the car. It started and ran fine for 3 months when this occurred again for the 2nd time on July 30, 2023. Again, no power, no FOB, no Blue link remote start or unlocking the door. Again, the car was jump started. When the car started the lithium battery gauge indicated the battery was charged half which was not normal for sitting in direct sun for 8 hours. On Hyundai forum there seems to be a lot of the same issue with Hyundai hybrids with solar panels. 1. What's causing this problem and 2. what's the permanent repair??
Strange: I think we have the same exact car, but mine clearly has the 12V battery as well as the switch under the left hand side of the steering wheel. My question is whether the 12V battery (which I have had die now 5x times over the past year, my third year of owning) needs to be replaced.

@@syds8211 I definitely don't have an acid filled 12 V battery in my 2020 Sonata hybrid. My previous 2013 Sonata hybrid had an acid filled battery and it lasted 7 years. My car hasn't had power twice; April 2023 and July 2023. I didn't use the battery reset switch. Hyundai roadside assistance jumped the car twice. I don't drive my 2020 nearly as much as I did my 2013. I spoke with the Hyundai dealership manager, he said, the fix is to drive the car. Like WTF does that mean? What good is solar panel roof if the car doesn't start?? Now when I drive the short distances (1-2 miles) almost daily, I now use the sport mode for daily short drives around town. My thinking is this will keep the RPM's up adding more charge to lithium battery used to start the car. Not sue what else to do.
1:49 Thanks. Yes I’m aware of the 2nd 12V battery for starting/accessories. My point is that there’s no 12V acid battery as I had in a 2013 Sonata Hybrid. The question is what causes the 12 V to drain. I asked the service Mgr. at Newport (RI) Hyundai and was told “ you need to drive the car”. I spoke to another Hyundai dealership just last week and he didn’t have a clue about a 2nd lithium battery or where it was located. Thanks again for the reply. @@randomdudeontheinternet9926 a1:49 1:49
Why the hell this feature not available in 2017-2019 ioniq ev ??? While available in hybrid same models tho??? do u know that i have stuck multiple times with this issue???
I have a 2023 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid and for the last 7 months it has been shutting down the battery and we have to manually get into the car and hit the 12 volt button. Now if I don’t drive it within 24 to 48 hours it shuts down. Took it to dealer and they said this normal. They said it does it in extreme heat or cold! But it did it in 80 degree weather. The service department said this is normal? Is it because it didn’t do it the 1st year I had it.

Where is the battery box in this car where I could supply power to the receiving end who needs to jump start? I tried locating it and found the red positive symbol but it's mixed with the fuses
Yeah my 2021 sonata hybrid with 23K miles I bought like 6 days ago had this happen. It only happened once so far, but I'm fearful after reading the below comments. . .
I’m very disappointed with the issue I’ve experienced twice now with my 2025 Hyundai Tucson. Despite calling emergency assistance, they only boosted my battery, which didn’t resolve the underlying problem. As a new car owner, this is very frustrating. The technician who came to assist didn’t even mention any potential alternative solutions, possibly to avoid revealing any issues with the company he represents. I’m planning to visit Hyundai and report this problem, and if it isn’t resolved, I’ll have no choice but to take it to consumer court.
Do not buy a Hyundai. Like others, ours has to be reset (use this process to get into the car and press reset and hope alarm won’t wake the dead) 2-3 days a week. Went to mediation and Hyundai claimed it’s a feature they put into the car to protect the battery so it’s working correctly. They claimed that all their Hybrid Sonata models (2022) will not start (dead, can’t even enter car) if you let it sit 2-3 days. Yes, some engineer supposedly programmed it to not shut off in 24-48-72 hours but somewhere, who knows when, in between. Yeah, ok. 🤦🏻♀️
Not true, my Ioniq EV has two batteries, as do most EVs. The 12v triggers the contactors that engage the traction battery with the electric motor. When you shut the EV off, the contactors will release, severing the powertrain from the traction battery
These cars are garbage! We just got back to the hotel from 5 days in Florida and get back and our 4 month old 2022 Hyundai sonata won’t start. UNBELIEVABLE. My 70 year old mother in law is now waiting in 90 degree weather for triple a to come jump the car because the 12v reset doesn’t work. Absolutely trash vehicle. DO NOT BUY ONE.
I have to agree especially if the car has a solar panel. All types of the same complaint/problems on Hyundai forum for hybrid models with solar panels. This has happened twice to my 2020 hybrid since April 2023 and the car has 33,000 miles. I don't have a 12V battery only the lithium ion so it's even more of an issue. One very unhappy customer.

We never put it back on now since we have to do this 2-3 days a week. It’s definitely frustrating. Very hard to not break it.
It's pretty easy to get off. You just don't understand Cars 😂
What if you don’t have one in a 2019 Hyundai Ioniq plug-in hybrid

Everyone says to report a case to the NHTSA, I don't know if it will be enough at this time for us?
@hyundai What if the 12V Reset button doesn't work either? What's the backup to the backup? 2020 Sonata Hybrid Limited.
I can’t really see this option in My Hyundai palisade calligraphy can you please let me know ASAP.
Thank you

there is already an open recall on the IMMC unit , requiring a module flash, or even a new module and fuse ..
So how do you do this in the Hyundai Elnantra 2021?
only hybrid has.
So now I got 2 batteries to worry about . Thanks
120k miles on my 2017 ioniq and the first time i had to do this. I am the original owner
