I’m doing roselle for first time this spring
You'll love it, this is my 2nd year, my 4 existing plants survived the winter and are coming back but I will plant more seed this week
I’m also a seed impulse buyer. I don’t need them… but I buy them anyway! Cause why not 😂😂😂
i had elbow and shoulder surgery ive started some stuff hydroponically and bought some stuff im just doing my best
UV Index is something I really wish the big box stores would consider. They sell sooooooo many plastic garden tools that just don't last here in Florida. Even the ones that are UV hardened or resistant only last about 2 years. But walk into a big box store and try to find a metal watering can... one that isn't meant to be a cheap decorative item. They are few and far between. I think I got my current metal one from Rural King about 6 years ago and it is still going strong.
Ace hardware? They had metal watering cans.

Are Puerto Rican black beans a good bed companion for sweet potatoes?...side note: I'm so happy I found your channel. I live in Central Florida and could never find good reference material for gardening. Thank you for being awesome!
Hi Jacqueline! You've been a big help to me as I've been gardening with elementary students in our two-year-old school garden in Longwood, Fl. I'm really glad I found your channel. I've learned A LOT from you, especially about natives! Question for you. Do you worry about growing sunflowers with certain plants? I've heard they can hurt some crops. How big a deal is this in raised beds? 🌻
Awww!!! Yay! That makes me so happy to hear! I've heard that about sunflowers, but have seen a bunch of examples of beds that have them in it. Sooooo I would just keep them on one side to limit potential losses.
It's so wild to me how different your veggie season is from ours! But also cool to see some of the same plants in a totally different environment.
Right! It is a whole different thing down here. I can't wait to see how your garden does. I really liked what you did with your trellis and can't wait to see it evolve. It is such a different way then what I do down here!
Tomatoes produce several hormones when pollinated and fertilized, including auxin and gibberellins (GAs), which stimulate fruit set. Auxin is a plant growth-regulating hormone that plays a key role in cell expansion, division and differentiation, fruit setting, and development. I use it on my flowering plants
Hi! I am a passionate native gardener in SWFL (10A) . You’ve inspired me to give vegetable gardening a try. I love your raised beds . Will you kindly share your source?
Yay! I’m so happy you’re a native gardener. Here’s the link for the beds:

@@WildFloridian Thank you. Love what you’re doing😊
My roselles went in the ground this weekend. They were started in February.
Nice! *High 5*
Hi Jacqueline. The garden looks great as usual.
Also for those wanting to buy plants, check to see if your local nurseries sell veggie seedlings. We have one in Lakeland that sells for little plants for around $3!
Also, keep an eye on the Walmart nursery, they'll have basic veggie plants for $1.97. I refuse to pay $6 for a tomato plant.
Great tip!!!! Thank you!!! :D
can you please tell me where at in Lakeland? thanks
@@krystalwhite4981 Peterson's nursery, it's on the corner of 540 and Lakeland Highlands.
@@amandagilds681 thank you so much
My PingTung eggplant has become a perennial for me. Just planted Seminole pumpkins. I now have raccoons eating my harvests- they ate all my loquats😢. Thanks for the reminders on what peppers to choose- I’m always hopeful for sweet peppers, but white flies tend to be a battle.
Hi Jackie, I’m in Miami and plan on starting more Everglades tomatoes, and eggplants from the big box stores. I don’t have much luck with bell peppers and the Cucamelon from seeds continue to grow but no edible fruits yet. All in raised beds. My guava tree is full of black fungus and the tangerine and lime trees are not growing 😢 but not dying either. But I’m NOT giving up, lol. I’ll just keep planting!!!
Jacqueline, when you say you will “replace” a plant like your cubanelle peppers do you mean that you will cut down the old existing plants or dig them up,roots and all and then will you plant more of the same ie: cubanelle in that same bed or would you rotate crops?
Great ideas to get started on . I need to get my roselle started. I got some tomatoes and peppers started. Potatoes are in the ground and my garlic and elephant garlic are doing great 😊
Where are you located. I am in north Fl. Wondering if it’s to late to plant potatoes 😊
@iammybelovedslisajackson2758 North florida. Depends on what kind you plant but can't hurt to. I planted King Harry and just some store bought ones that had sprouted. Russet I think.
Great video as always❤
So motivating thank you
Id like to grow pumpkins for the sole purpose to decorate this fall. When should I start sowing seed and planting? And do you ever do vertical gardening?
You can start now. Seminole Pumpkins and most pumpkins can last 6 months to a year in your house. Our house is decorated year round inside with seminole pumpkins. In the fall, off vine they will survive a bit, once you cut into them... you'll have barely any time.
Had a hearty tomato patch going and got hit by spider mites! Had to rip out about half of my EG and spraying soap to knock it out and save my Cherokees and sweet 100s. My Seminole pumpkins are taking off! I'll have to look into the Ping Tings, how do you cook them?
Are cubanelle peppers good in stir frying? Cause that’s what I mainly use peppers for. 😊
I use them as a substitute for bell peppers all the time for stir fry
@@vickilynn10 thanks for the info will definitely buy some!
What type irrigation system are you using in the new white backyard beds?
Normal lawn sprinklers.... they just sweep across the beds. That's it.
@@WildFloridian thanks, kinda wish I’d asked the question before we re did our garden beds with ground level soaker hoses. I thought the tomatoes didn’t like the leaves getting wet from the lawn sprinklers. Oh well.
Jacqueline, when would you suggest planting cubanelle? I started mine from seed in January and have them in grow bags. I'm in Trinity, north of you. Any info would be great.
Right now :) Great time to get them in the ground. When you pick a spot consider how they will get some shade in the summer months. Whether it is from shade cloths or you move the pot or you have an area that gets shade in the afternoon.
Where did you get your roselle?
I bought my seeds from Southern Exposure Seed Exchange online.
I am originally from Alaska but moved to Tampa area. I have a Jalapeño that I got from my local garden center, how well would it do in the summer here?
They can do great. The trick is to put it in an area that will get shade in the afternoon during the summer. Or you can put it in a container and move it. Peppers are native to the gulf and Caribbean area and would naturally grow on forest edges. So they like full sun in the winter and mostly in the spring and then need protection in the summer and then they can bounce back in the fall.
@@WildFloridian thank you very much! I will be sure to keep an eye on it in the summer time.
Most peppers should do fine. I recommend using partial shade or shadecloth during the summer, as they can be brutal. Good on you getting below the 30th parallel.
How do you drip tree root from getting up the raised bed ?
¡Hola! from Ybor! 😊 I had bad luck with strawberries, an everbearing variety; they are full of leaves with small little fruits. Not sure if I should rip ‘em out or not. What do y’all think?
How are you protecting your crops from raccoons, Squirrels and birds?
Could it have been a cat? That got into your beds? We have a cat problem in my neighborhood and they destroy everything so I have to practically cage in my garden with goat fencing. It sucks. :)
