English speakers use the verb "have" as a substitute for eat, just as other languages use the verb "take." "What did you have for lunch?" "I had pizza."
As always, an awesome vid Alex! Thanks :) I have a few questions: 1.) Can we omit 'on?' It depends (on) how you do it 2.) Sometimes we use 'take' ex: I took a break I took a class I took a rest Can we then omit 'break' and say: I took lunch at 12:30 I took my lunch at 12:30 3.) Number 3 I use it for go to work I use it to go to work I use it (in order) to go to work I use it for (the purpose of) going to work I need glasses (in order) to read. I need glasses for (the purpose of) reading.
Hello, Alex! Thank you for you video. For your examples... is it possible to use the verb after for with -ing? I use it for going to work? I need glasses for reading? She ran for catching the bus?
thank teacher. Every morning, i practise to listen english and i choice your lesson. today i learn about 5 method use sentence. It depends, it depends on, i have broken rice in breakfast, i am interested, i use it to go to work and it's fantastic. ( i review HOho)
To be fair with number three, you can also use in many cases 'for" in combination with a progressive from/gerund. ie: What doe you use your car for? I use it for going to work". Now as a native English speaker, I can\t 100% say if that is prescriptively "correct" English, but I can say it is 100% used English, by native speakers. I think some confusion stems from this. Now you mentioned using a gerund, but didn't point out this form, so I thought I would just mention. :D
These are the problems of Lingua Franca and not making an effort to learn a language correcty my friend! Nice you take the time to correct us,great job!
Oh God! I am sure I have heard people making mistakes like this, but never realized them before I saw this. Just watched this video using my Subcommune App. Saved a few of the important subtitles in my inbox so that I can refer to them later. It will save me from making such silly mistakes in conversation.
do you need help you can go to some websites to learn better English I'm American and speak perfect English except sometimes I mess up because I have trouble saying some words but just go easy and then get to harder English words it works better!bye
You're the best teacher. I actually was able to correct all the mistakes in the sentences prior. I didn't know I was that good in English, hehe. How can I subscribe ?
to subscribe you must follow the following steps: 1) get a blue jacket and a blue pair of pants, wear them every tuesday for 4 weeks 2) learn corean and open a small business selling seashells to corean businessmen 3) get a ticket by running a red light (does not matter at what speed) (pay the fine) 4) click the red button "subscribe" under the video 5) buy and deploy a parachute while watching family guy in your living room if you follow the steps correctly you would be successfully subscribed! :D
I love your lessons and couldn't thanks enough to make myself active and studying English to improve my second language skills. it benefits my life no body else a specially someone who needed for work like me it's mean a lot. really appreciate your lessons I'll try to keep up and repeat every lesson hopefully one day I can take ielts exam with standard score without any fault. thanks again :)
