I started increasing my distance runs by doing slow long runs. I’m able to hit 4-6 miles at a moderate pace of 8-9:30 per mile. I have a boxer/rugby player build and running is something I LOVE. Especially me going into the military VERY soon, I am bumping up my sprints and runs, with the goal to hit a sub 14 2 mile by then of training, a sub 40 5 mile by next year, 10 miles at a sub 10 min per mile pace in a year or 2, and then finally, by God’s grace, do a 20-30 mile marathon WHILE maintaining a muscular build like you man!

    • @Bweyg
      @Bweyg 10 месяцев назад +2

Nice, keep going man. I've also been doing a lot of runs plus lifting before I do my runs. The incredible feeling you get during and after the runs is amazing and you feel so much more accomplished than just sitting on the coach all day. I'm not planning to go to the miltary anytime soon, but I do want to keep building up my fitness all around as well as getting my 2 mile time to sub 10 minutes (I'm at 12:08), my mile time to sub 4 (5:26) and my 5k down to sub 16 (19:21) later on in the future. You can get there man, just keep going and you'll get that sub 14 soon enough. Godspeed!

Just hit my first year mark in the Marine Corps a few months ago, keep doing what you’re doing and stay consistent. It sounds like you’ve got a helluva good thing going right now, but there’s a philosophy I hear often. “You’ve gotta be strong enough to fight, but first you’ve gotta get there” in essence you’ve gotta run hard with heavy loads and still have the strength to fight.

Speaking to the younger generation here. Your aesthetic influencers do their cardio. It’s not just diet and Sarms. You can attain a fantastic physique naturally but you cannot train like Phil heath and jay cutler you will not look like them. “Even they do cardio”
    You need:
    Proper diet
    Weight training
Calisthenic movements during your lifting splits.
And do your damn cardio. Watch your results skyrocket.
    It’s called a cardio pump. It’s a thing.

Me and my son are starting with a mile /1600 metres
And want to slowly drop the distance down to 100metres sprints while at the same time increasing our intensity
What’s the best way to do that ?
I just thought amongst distance at slower speed works be a good place to start to get used to running and not get injured
We did try sprinting straight away previously but I think one time I hurt my hip flexor or something . It feels like like we need a little bit of conditioning over 3 -6 months to get ready for more intense sprints
We are both tall and heavy too, over 6 feet and 240-260 pounds . I’m 44, son is 16
We want to run 2 to 3 times a week.

I know mitochondrial density seems like a big word, but you don’t generate ATP fast enough during 10 rep sets for that to matter. The reason running builds that is because it is important for endurance and slow oxidative muscle. This is illogical and just click bait by big words

This completely disregards the concept of type 1 and type 2 muscle fibers. Endurance training is not conducive to building the type 2 muscles in the body, which are low in mitochondrial density and function off the use of muscle creatine and glycogen stores. Type 1 fibers are built through activities like running and endurance, while type 2 are built through strength, hypertrophy, and power training.
