I really don’t understand y’all in the comments, people are always complaining about how we don’t get good horror films anymore and nothing new or original. And then Netflix drops a horror film that does s great job with the gruesome horror element to it, is also self aware, and has a great twist in the second half and no one is happy and complains? If there had been no twist in the film and had been a straight forward horror about a cult who sacrifices people with no twist on everyone would have complained that it was unoriginal and a ripoff of midsommar or the ritual. But it has an interesting twist and no one is satisfied cause it wasn’t a straightforward typical cult/sacrifice horror we’ve already seen before? Give me a break and make up your minds.

Self aware horror films aren't new though. Scream, Zombieland, Cabin in the Woods, later installments in the Child's Play, Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street franchises....these movies and countless imitators all had meta elements that acknowledged tropes and archetypes of the horror genre. Some reviewers felt that even with a twist that admitted a lack of originality...Classic Horror Story still wasn't all that original.

At the end it spoke about mafia and this isn't a topic that wr find in every horror... The name " a classic horror story" does tell you that is going to be similar to other horror films and that is intentional. The end is the one that makes it different

    • @SubjectiveCuriosities
      @SubjectiveCuriosities 3 года назад +3

@@BruBrussilla The mafia thing is a good point but did anyone really take that plot point seriously? Seemed pretty ham-fisted to me. Also it's not just that every scene is from another horror movie, its that so much of it is from horror movies that are already about other horror movies or full of homages to other horror films themselves like Evil Dead & Cabin in The woods, its not a copy but a copy of a copy.

Overall, I enjoyed how it was shot, very giallo-like. Score was good too. I enjoyed Mark for his humour, and the doctor provided a nice bit of contrast to the other characters. But that ending was just... Eh. Too meta for it's own good. Overall, it kinda ruined it for me, but I still say 5/10. A better Netflix horror film than others.

this movie was unexpectedly comical as soon as the obvious twist was revealed. But then made me question the really loose and bad inner logic of it all. The scene near the ending made me lol too much cause it was so cartoonish. They could of went farther with the folk horror . It reminded me so much of The Wickerman movies (original, remake and Wicker Tree), few other folk horrors and of course the latest comparasion MidSommar. It was a pretty decent movie up until the last half of the 2nd and then 3rd act. The Twist was unexpectedly unesccary and I really wished they went the Paranormal/pyschological route this time IMO. cause once the mystery was revealed it lost it's flavor.

The tone and the atmosphere in the 2/3 of the movie were heavily influenced by recent horrors like midsommar and the ritual. The outright copying of the slow tension building style from these two movies which were purposefully laughable deceived the audience along with the characters that there were indeed something supernatural going on. It was supposed to be very obvious as it led us to believe that we were actually watching a generic and trendy genre of horror movie. Their were also other small references to older horror classics like Saw (torture), the village (red cloak), wrongturn (prologue), evil dead (the house), wickerman (the cult). The title (a classic horror story) did not refer to the movie itself but rather what the villain character wanted to make. The twist was clever and itself a reference to AHS s6. Although I didn't like the last sequence. I'll give this movie a solid B+.

I understand these kind of films (let's call them self-aware so we don't spoil too much), but I don't really like them.
Instead of a full-length mainstream movie, they should've been just an essay (video essay?) published in the respective specialized journal. If you want to adress the audience, do it there. Don't use the movie itself or at least not in a way that would invalidate the whole movie.
A movie should make sense and should be watchable even on the surface level.
This one barely is. And, contrary to popular opinion, I don't think "A cabin in the woods" is a complete film as well - if you disregard the "deeper level" that is.
And here's the thing, we (the audience) got the message already. This is not the first movie of this kind and the same goes for "A cabin in the woods". Remember "Peeping Tom (1960)?
Whatever, was I abstract enough in my attempt not to spoil this too much?

Let's be fair on the movie, it was really really shit....to much slow motion, how come they didn't find the fence when they were all together in the forest at the start....all of a sudden there's an ocean and holiday folk....couldn't see this from the aerial shots which was designed to create a sense of hopelessness 🙄 to many holes....the only thing that scared me, was the time I lost watching it🤔👎

The first 2/3 were decent, but the ending holy shit, it made me love this movie. It's one of the best horror movies i've seen this year

U call this gruesome lol. Watch Blood Red Sky or Hereditary that's gruesome.. with a good storyline. This shit doesn't even have a semblance of a story to it. Just some stitched up parts of some movies and a screen recording at the end. Shame.

I watched this movie sped up at the highest setting netflix allowed and it still felt like it was going at a normal pace.
Every character was annoying and i was eventually rooting for them to die.
I kept in mind the entire time not to take this one seriously but it was so ridiculous with all the forced plot twists and cliches this doesnt even feel like a movie, the type of horror their going for changes almost every 5 minutes, first it seems it will be paranormal, then thriller, then gore/slasher, and ofcourse you cant forget your overused satanic cult clutch... its just all over the place and not in a well put together purposeful way
The part with the mayor is corny asl and they just didnt bother trying to make that plotline seem interesting or make sense, the ending is also corny and so unrewarding for having to sit through this shitshow
overall it was boring and failed at the self awareness it claims to have, it will leave you mad from act 1

I think that's the point, to be a tryhard horror movie since it was directed by the character who wanted to produce a classic holly wood horror movie. As he mentioned in their conversation with the lead character, Italian horror movie = sh*t, American Horror movie = Good. And that's where the twist ending comes to clear things up.
I don't want to sound rude, but I think you didn't get the point of the movie.
