I have tried this recipe! It was delicious, creamy and rich, but I have to politely disagree with the description “not heavy,” as it was one of the “heaviest” things I’ve ever made. And hey, sometimes that’s exactly what you want! But just know that it’s not a light dish by any means, lol
I grew up eating only homemade “hamburger helper.” We often made it with rice, instead of macaroni, and broccoli. My mother would not buy the boxed mix, because it is mainly salt. Also, she hated that it had no veg. We made ours with a lot of veg, mixed in with the burger-and topped it with shredded cheddar.🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻💋💋🇺🇸🌸
I make something like this, just freestyle in the kitchen when I’m feeling a bit down and want to turn to something comforting. Definitely want to try this NYT version
