I'd suggest that the return of serve is more important than the serve. Miss the return, lose a point. Miss the serve, no point lost. Agree that the deep is best for both the serve (and return).

Serve is established as the most important shot, as well as the shot YOU have the most control over. Over 90% of pro's will tell you this... You have 100% control over the serve - more than any other shot available on the court - period. And to your point, you CAN certainly miss the serve by being too short or out - which is indeed a point lost.

Your last point is incorrect. If you miss a serve no point is lost. This is why, in my view, the return is more important (in terms of outcome for the team) than the serve. Being fully in control of a shot (as in the serve) does not necessarily make it more important, it simply means you have the most control. I'd like to see the survey results confirming you contention that 90% of pro agree with you.

I believe the most important concept is to keep the ball in play.

I would work on not tossing the ball up....dropping the ball with hand down. Know this is PPA pro rules, but can see that this transitions on to rec play.

For those watching, start at 1:48 and save yourself unnecessary chatter.

Technically you are not allowed to toss the ball upwards like that on a serve out of the air, at least by PPA rules.

Excellent Excellent Excellent. Looks like in the last example the return of serve was also very good.

The returner should have stood farther back away from the baseline. Her momentum was going backward.

Not a good video. Should have had camera on the serve arm the entire time. She does not describe the motion at all. Everyone knows you want a deep serve.

agree. the headline says how to crush your serve then there is no instruction, only the obvious suggestion that the serve ought to be deep. It’s circular and unhelpful. There should be content on how to hold the ball out front to ensure you have space to make contact out front, how to load up on your back foot to begin and transfer your weight forward as the stroke progresses, how to brush up on the ball to apply topspin allowing for a higher starting trajectory that helps overall depth of the shot etc. Some instruction on how to hit the back third of the court is required.

Also she is demonstrating an illegal serve. She cannot toss the ball upwards like that and take it out of the air. They should probably straight up delete this video, it is embarrassing for Selkirk.

She is, and it is not legal.
