    Wayyyy back when, we got a quote for a few glass panels for the 2nd and 3rd level of our container house, and it was SUPER EXPENSIVE. So, we took it upon ourselves to creatively source some glass panels to stay within our budget. In this video, we are going to build a custom frame and install the panels, and HOPE we don't hit any bumps along the way... but we'll see!

    If the window is going to receive sun, you can add a reflective filament to the panel for UV rays which would hide the slight tint while also keeping your house cooler during the summer.

    I love watching your videos. Many years ago my wife and I built our house from scratch and these videos bring back great memories. I do have a couple of questions/ concerns. Normally most of your welds are for 100% of the length of member you are welding. You didn't do this with your frames. The window caulking solves the issue where the glass sits but how are you sealing the joints where you have steel against steel? As an example at timecode 35:10 daylight shows through the mullion. In bad storms water can be driven thought any gaps. As a suggestion Urethane sealant has the elasticity and durability needed and works well.
    My second concern is for both of your safety. You do a great job in using proper PPE for the task at hand but rally are you harnessed off. I should have commented in earlier videos but where is your fall protection? I work in heavy construction and would never allow our employees to work without harness and retractors with the fall conditions you have. This isn't an OSHA thing but unfortunately earlier in my career I have seen men die from lower falls. I would hate to see you or Viant get hurt or die from a simple slip or trip on the balcony. The gear isn't inexpensive but what is your life worth? Maybe a safety company would sponsor one of the videos and send the gear.
    I really enjoy your creative process and look forward to these videos every week. I can't wait to see the finished house.

    My wife and I have binged out on your home build over the last few weeks. We love your quality of build and your vision. I cannot find your link to your laser level you mentioned you would post. Am I missing something? Can you post if not, please? Keep up the great work and videos.

    Hi, I noticed that one of your high-speed grinders has an old fashioned and dangerous On Off switch. Newer models come with a paddle switch, which is called a 'dead man switch'. It automatically turns off if you let go of it. That can still injure you, but not so badly.

    • @PacificPinesRanch
      @PacificPinesRanch  2 месяца назад

      Maybe we can upgrade it and change it to the new switch! Our 7"+ grinders have that kind of switch but the little ones do not.

    I am truly eager to see, if you find any downsides to doing your windows like this. I have always thought that glass company place to high a premium on large glass panels for builds. As a person that has done some builds that require panels, and also as someone who worked in a glass manufacturing plant, I have seen both sides. I cannot wait to see this wall finished it will be amazing.

    Surprised you don't seem to use weld thru primer, by the sea ? how are you going to avoid rusting on the concealed steel faces like between those to angles between the window panes.

    You have done it completely wrong. 1) In the video you can see that the beam is horizontal. But maybe the container isn't. And it will become even more visible when the finished ceiling is installed. 2) When you walk around, you don't look down but up. so if the window does not fit in height, you add something in the bottom.
