I have been watching tennis instructional videos from various sources and from other coaches, after watching these videos with simple explanation and I managed to gather lot of informations. I even applied them during my tennis session, it helps me greatly. Thank you.
Edgar, your videos are short and the best. Most important is your instructions at the end, on how to check. Of course When I tried, I hit the ball just the way you explained and then learn to accelerate. Thank you for all your videos. I pretty much watched all of them and trying to implement in my practice.
Slow to Max is a good thing to concentrate on even for advanced players who certainly wouldn’t accelerate on the back swing but may accelerate too early on the forward swing.
Imo it's more about stopping you tensing up and missing your shot than anything. If you just think max straight away your arm has a tendency to tense up which causes you to pull your shots or not follow thru correctly. Instead you need your arm stay loose (slow) until the power from the kinetic chain generated by hips and torso has reached it when it should engage (max).

Que grata sorpresa encontrar a Edgar Giffenig en You Tube.!!, tuve la oportunidad y el privilegio de tomar una clínica presencial en Culiacán, Sinaloa con él. Muy provechosa !! Saludos !!
Thanks Edgar. Nice explenations and drills. What do you think about a two handled backhand regards late acceleration? I feel like we have to rely more on momentum from the racket dip and maybe try to accelerate the racket a fraction or two ealier in the swing comoared to the forehand. This might not be true though, and the is propably also some extra acceleration around the same distance from contract point compared to the forehand. But hard to make the same ammount of late acceleration on a two handed backhand comoared to the forehand.
It is difficult to determine the exact time to start accelerating it starts somewhere with the drop of the racquet. I look at the two-handed backhand as a non-dominant hand forehand, so the acceleration process would be similar on both sides, maybe not exactly the same but similar.
Excelente tip EDGAR, es lo que he estado practicando pero sin entender la mecánica, ya entendí mejor el movimiento obvio acompañado de una buena posición para pegar, Saludos desde Mazatlan amigo, Tito Escobosa
Racket head power is a more accurate (precise) term than racket head speed. Power is energy/time and energy is, in this case, in the form of kinetic energy, which has contributions from mass and velocity (speed). A heavier racket may move with slightly less speed than a lighter racket, but its momentum (mass times velocity) and therefore kinetic energy could be well worth the extra mass. Heavier rackets are also more stable as they move through the hitting zone and may in turn provide for better ball strikes.
Are you selling HEAVY RACKETS ? 😂 Over complicated. What happens if RACKET becomes too heavy ? RACKET BALANCE ? Also you forgot strings spin altitude . You are correct but this is good because it is SIMPLE.

what is the role of forearm sir in tennis forehand?your tips are excellent.. do we use forearm in swing?confusion part is some ppl say swing with shoulder and others say use forearm to throw racket head
You need to look at the body like a spring. When you hit the forehand you start by coiling the body and loading the legs by rotating the the body and bending the knees. As you swing you start by pushing against the ground and rotating sequentially from the feet to the racquet head: feet, legs, hips, torso, arm, wrist and racquet head. Each part accelerates and decelerates transferring force to the next part, like a whip. At the end the fastest part is the racquet head. The forearm plays a very important part since it is one of the segments close to the racquet head. In practice, thinking about rotating into the shot slowly and then letting the arm accelerate past the body is a good way of thinking about it. Thinking about using the forearm to throw the racquet head would be more useful than thinking about the shoulder. If you like the videos, you would like my books Developing high performance tennis players and Play Tennis with Passion (both on Amazon and IBooks) Good luck!
Hi Edgar, I have a question about the follow through. It' s not very clear if we should keep our wrist locked for a few inches immediately after contact and then turn the forearm for the finish, or if It' s better to release the forearm-wrist straight after contact. I find quite difficult to aim properly if I release straight after. Would it be adviseble to keep that wrist locked for a bit before turning the forearm both in topspin, flat forehand and backhand?
The racquet head should stay stable through contact and the strings should push the ball towards your target for a few inches, but you should do that with a loose wrist. You do not need to try to lock it.
@@GiffenigTennis But how does one know if they are doing this correctly? Pushing concept is a slow movement vs. throwing which is violent and fast but unstable. Players can get easily confused and anxious with contradictory "swing thoughts". We must find new ways to teach the biomechanics of tennis so the strokes can be learned correctly, safety, and efficiently. Appreciate Edgar's efforts.

I try to stay loose but I feel I loose some control and often frame the ball - should keep staying loose thourgh whole shot stick to it and control will come with time?
You are probably moving your head too early trying to accelerate. Whenever you feel your racquet moving it is usually not because you are not holding it tight enough but because you are not watching the ball well enough. Keep practicing staying lose but make sure your head stays still and you watch your racquet hit the ball.
The leg drive does play a major role also. l remember a time where l was too much all arm and swinging fast. The teaching pro stopped me and talked about weight distribution back to front. Then, l was definitely able to hit the ball harder. Also shouldn't the wrist though relaxed stay firm a little longer just to allow for a contact point slightly more out in front? To just swing and let the wrist go is a strategy that can be perfected. But look at a Djokovic forehand in slow motion. The wrist is extended forward just a little longer.
I believe the meaning is the same: maintain speed through contact and accelerate through contact both urge the player to keep the racquet head high and not slow it down or stop it.
@@GiffenigTennis accelerating and maintaining speed are definitely not the same. One means increasing speed while the other means to not increase speed. And should we be accelerating on the racquet drop, or after the drop?
You need to practice it for a while whenever you are on the court before trying it when competing. Under pressure it is harder to stay relaxed, so you need to feel comfortable with the concept before it will work for you.
