I always found her rather creepy in the anime

I'm glad I'm not the only one of that opinion. I remember when I watched this series the first time, I always thought it weird how overly invested she seemed in Ayato, and the reasoning for being so only made it worse. There were multiple times I had to pause and either ask "What am I supposed to be feeling?" or "Is this supposed to be creepy or cute?" or "What was the writing room thinking?". I wonder what RahXephon would have been like if Haruka had more conventional and less creepy writing. I imagine it may have helped the series achieve more popularity than it did, and it probably would have sat a lot better with everyone. But alas, Haruka's writing is horrible, and RahXephon is a curious obscurity known for its (often unneeded) complexities and status of "Eva knock-off".

You see, that IS the lesson. Pure psyochitc obsession masquareded as love, can conquer all. Like the power of friendship :)
