Marcus, cannot believe how efficient the LFP and new motor in the RWD Model 3 is. Even in winter here (Not very cold but often 3 to 5c) I often get under 13kWh/100km for mixed driving. But not much motorways in my rural part. A good 10% more efficient on average over my ID.3 but more I think on motorways and when colder.
Yes. The 2023 Model 3s apparently all have quite efficient heat pumps. Winter travelling should not be too bad either, but most of my long trips are in good weather.

Hi Marcus. Nice to hear from you again. As usually a great video. I actually agree with your assessment. I also have an ID.3 and I am happy with it, but the new prices of Tesla's are a excellent point. I also value range and the LR version is very appealing.
Thank you, Luso Spikes. The Tesla price drop makes a big difference. Unfortunately, VW just keeps increasing the prices 😒 Finding an EV that has more motorway range than the VW ID.3 is not easy. It seems to me that Model 3 is the only option at this price point.
@@marcusevjourney566 That´s true. I also had a look as the Polestar 2 Long Range because a vehicle almost new costs a bit more than 50k€. However, as the e-Megane, is FWD and I do not like FWD, but otherwise is a good looking car with a decent range. So M3 has not much competition at current prices
@@luso57 I forgot the Polestar 2. It is definitely in the running and is available in Portugal July/August. It is very good. To think a long range ID.3 is unavailable in Portugal and its German price is more expensive than a Polestar 2, just shows how VW have gone crazy with prices. I still the love the ID.3 but not at these prices.
Nice to hear your thoughts. I suspect that you will be stuck with a Tesla model. Tesla is lowering its prices, but I think it will be a while before the European manufacturers follow suit. China has several brands that may be interesting but they are not available in Europe yet and we do not have prices. BYD could be something?
Thanks for the video, although for all models one of the big concerns is where is your Tesla (of for that matter any brand) dealer) based? If you do have a problem and the car has an issue how can you get it to the dealer? Same problems here in Ireland where they are based in Dublin. I don't think there's any solution in the short term to that, but it could be a problem
Fortunately my Tesla dealership is not too far from me, as I live near Lisbon. Volkswagen is better. I think it could be a big issue for some people, especially if you have problems.
According to ABRP it does not. Telmo if it is that good, let’s do a video together in it. I will happily pay for tolls, electricity and your lunch. Contact me. I know the Kona is the efficiency King 👍
Just found your channel, you’re as big an EV nerd as I am. I can’t charge at home but never go on long trips and only average 40 miles a day. The lease is up on my BMW i3S in December so I’m looking. When spending £40k plus on a car I have red lines that rule out a lot. No to front wheel drive, not another with the charging port on the right, must have a rear wiper and be quicker than what I have. So no Tesla, MG4, Ioniq 5 as they don’t have a rear wiper. Anyway I’m going for the Smart #1 Brabus even though the Premium makes more sense.😂
Hello Garry. The Smart #1 Brabus, seems amazing. It will give you lots of fun. It unfortunately does not quite have the range I require. I am slightly jealous !
@@marcusevjourney566 the range is not great in fact the REAL range of any electric car is nowhere near what the manufacturers say. The Brabus will do 210 miles in the real world. This is plenty for me I do many short trips of 40 miles per day never more than 100. Or around 8,000 a year. It looks like the order book won’t open until March here in the UK with deliveries in December. 😢
Hey Marcus, always nice and exciting to get a new car. Congratulations. Did you hear that a new facelift Polestar 2 is on the way with more range than the previous model? Long-distance rear-drive 84 kwh. The battery gives 84 km. Longer range than the previous model. WLTP is longer than the Tesla Model 3 long-range and faster charging, though it is more expensive, but includes more standard equipment. Just heard from Chris Riffer.
Morphing the single-motor P2 from FWD to RWD, giving it the (optional) bigger battery and increasing the maximum charging speed to 205 kw will be great. That one should easily meet your range and other requirements, with the possible exception of cost. There are rumours that the P2's much-criticised centre console will be redesigned as well. P2's delivery times are reasonable as well. As for that well-located Tesla charging station don't forget Tesla is opening it's chargers to non-Teslas.
I always recommend the Long Range Model 3. Having the extra range keeps Supercharging in a faster percentage for the same kilometers added. But I don’t think the M3LR is available with LFP batteries.
I am surprised that ABRP says the Model Y will need to charge to reach the Algarve while estimating that the Model 3 will arrive with 11%. At 120km/h the drag of the crossover will be significantly more than the saloon, but the ABRP range estimate seems a little pessimistic for the Model Y. I noticed that Bjorn found that the latest Model Y is very efficient in his recent test in Thailand. I wonder if the latest Model Y would actually get to the Algarve without stopping. 🤔
I do not think the RWD Model Y will reach the Algarve, the Model 3 is much more aerodynamic. I think the range of the RWD Model Y will be less than my ID.3 at motorway speeds. We have to wait for Bjorn’s Norway range test to see. Anyway the Model Y is too big for my family, so is not a real contender. I think the Model Y is probably better value than the Model 3, but it does not suit us.
Thank you Tesla Travel. If you charge at the Supercharger in Mar Shopping near Faro, I recommend the restaurant Portuguese Lab in the shopping center. Delicious and cheap. If you sit outside you can see your car 🤣👍 I enjoy watching your channel, great content 👍
The reason you need to charge the LFP battery to 100% is because the cell voltage is lower, and so the make sure the BMS knows what full is you need to charge to 100%. If you do not do this it could be that at 5% the car is empty and shuts down. It’s clear battery degradation takes a serious hit because of this. Look at battery degradation and you will see it’s a lot quicker! Do not make the mistake! Do some research before you decide. So in the end degradation is the same, but you will have the initial hit a bit quicker because of the 100% charging. The upside is that it has more charging cycles, that comes into play if you plan to keep the car for a very long time. To be safe I would take at least 5% off of the quoted range. Nice explanation: ruclips.net/video/suw20wPrbL0/видео.html
Thank you Yves for all the information. I will definitely watch this video 👍 I need to know more about the advantages and disadvantages of LFP over NCM.
When I drive the Model 3, I found it extremely comfortable. The main problems were the software and AC. The Kona will need one charging stop to get to the Algarve, so it is not a contender for me.
Might do the the same, not a huge difference in price between my Kona and a second hand SR+ so won't cost me much to switch. For the same reasons, supremely happy with the car but I want to drive to France to holiday low carbon so would take advantage of the SC. Might be able to do it anyway but will have less planning and be seamless or stress free
Winter more difficult for any EV. The ID.3 has very good efficiency and range, however I just need 25kms more range not to stop and charge for 15 mins. I love the ID.3.
Hi Marcus, great video. We have the same problem with our ID3 (namely range and glitchy software) and are considering getting Tesla M3. How easy is it to sell ID3 in Portugal?
I put mine for sale on Sunday, it was sold by Wednesday for a good price. I will do a video about it. I didn't find the software glitchy, at least not the latest versions. I think some software features on the Tesla Model 3 will be worse, but I will keep an open mind and give myself some time to test it. Price/range/charging speed and efficiency are currently unbeatable in the Tesla Model 3.
Yes, the sales person in the Tesla Store told me they only know about price changes 3 days before the clients. Don’t worry, I have already ordered 🤣 I will only lose 250 euros if I change my mind 👍
Very rarely, less than 5 times in over 2 years. I want to keep my batteries in perfect shape. In the LFP Tesla Model 3 it is recommended to charge to 100% at least once a week and as often as possible. This is a big advantage of the LFP IMHO. Often in my ID.3 I charge on an AC public chargers to 80% when out, but in truth charging to 100% would be more convenient.
I thought you felt the model 3 was amazing but had terrible software? Does the price now make that a none deciding factor or have the updates changed your mind 😊
Hello Ian. Yes, I did not like the software 2 years ago. It was terrible. The price/range and my wife’s love of the Tesla makes the software something I will have to put up with 🤣👍 I hope that they have improved the software, I will keep an open mind, not possible, and try it. I did enjoy driving it, it has good hardware.

The Tesla after the price cut is probably unbelievable, but do wait for tomorrow's news about the Polestar 2 facelift. Or check today's video by Kris Rifa (from Norway, he has a RUclips channel for EVs too) where he comments on the leaked info about the updates and compares briefly with model 3.
I personally would consider other EV brand than Tesla just because they do most things right, but others are a complete disaster and the ones they fail are the most important to me. Like having matrix headlights and only use it for the "light show', on the road they use the headlights the same way your ID3 does, but the auto high beam function is a complete miss(Bjorn has a video about it), same for the wipers auto mode... And now they remove the ultrasonic sensors for parking
Removing the ultra sensors for parking is not good. I think there are many things in the ID.3, when it comes to software, which are better. Auto high beam on the ID.3 is flawless. People just get carried away with the useless stuff on the M3 like Netflix etc. VW concentrates on the driving experience. I will miss my ID.3 for sure.

Hi Marcus, wait for the new Model 3 that should be launched in 2024 (following the Model S timeline and sales exhaustion that led to that incredible price - cheaper than the ID3 Pro S). Nowadays, Model 3 looks really old and funky, bad insonorization and the autonomy numbers don't match with real driving. Before my ID3, i had the 4th M3 SR (2019) that came to Portugal (through leasing to the company that I still work for), and the autonomy was pretty much worse than the ID3. I had various mechanical problems (and a leak in the back) and I had an awful time waiting - 3 MONTHS+, for a door and 3-panel reparation after a small crash (complex after-sales services is a nightmare for Tesla in many parts of Europe).
Hello Nuno. I cannot wait until 2024 :-). I agree the Tesla Model 3, is far from perfect. What can I do I want more range, and the options in Portugal are very limited at this price range? Anyway, if my Model 3 does turn out to be bad, I will be able to make some interesting videos :-). I will purchase the car, so I will have the option to upgrade to something better whenever I want to.
@@marcusevjourney566 Yes, far too expensive. I had the ID5 for one day. Awesome car. It drives so nice. But you are right, it s not a beautiful car. But you could make an ID5 youtoube channel. Everyone talks about the M3
MG 4 big battery or Tesla Model 3 or Y if the prices have been reduced in portugal too. We have no queques at all - and I can fully understand that each minute will count in such cases with a child in the car. Right now best choice here is MG4 even though also some issues that have been already fixed. You The Smart is crap at all. As in the past at least compared to the MG4 luxury which we were able to ride 320 km in winter time over a 520 km trip cause we could charge close to 100 kW from 1% to roughly 75% at a warmer winter day, but colder than portugal winter days. The model 3 is here 41000€ after grants, but tesla would instantly lower the prices again in case of a recession or their factories not running at 100% which is still the case. But are you sure to get the LFP battery and that tesla is not changing that again as they could and had done without any anouncement ? Ii can rememer my buddy who had received his car without know that he had gotten LFP instead of LiIon which is a great mess if you live in the alps, austria. Too cold to be usefull, and he had to struggle afterwards cause they were not telling him why his car was charging to slow simply to get over the time where he could complain and give the car back. MG4 has a LFP battery which you can ride from 1 to 99%. Believe me we have LFP homestorage batteries since 2013 with still over 90% SOC after 2000 cycles. Also the chargning speed is faster than in the ID cars and Portugal and Spain have the best charging weather and no 10°C days and nights in Winter. The battery is working quite well now cause its battery heating is great. Good luck , but keep an eye on the MG4 cause in case of a good price this will be a quite good choice cause not much missing and nothing to pay extra, great, I mean really great long distance comfort at level of Mercedes, and even the interior quality close to Mercedes, better than Tesla. Tesla is the easy pick , no risk - no fun, and not much content for the channel I guess. MG4 is the challenger, the underdog, the car with the nicest and most innovative design, cause all tesla have aged meanwhile, there will be an update coming sooner or later which will hurt you pretty much cause model 3 has gotten no update so far that is worth to be mentioned. Check the MG4 out it is really great car, by far best value for the money and for Model 3 price you could here even get the luxury version with all the assistance systems and heated seats , 2 SIMs and also OTA Update on board.
MG4 seems to be a great car. I am still unsure if it is better than my ID.3. I would have to see some range videos etc from Bjorn Nyland before taking the leap. If it is LFP, that it is definitely an advantage in Portugal.
I disagree, I love my VW ID.3. It is an amazing EV, better than most. I think it will be better than my Tesla Model 3, in many ways. I will wait and see.

@@marcusevjourney566 polestar 2 was updated yesterday, seems that the long range, is with rear well drive motor!!!! (But more expensive)
Good decision! You won’t regret 👍🏼
Congrats 🎉
Thank you 😊 Can it get us to Madrid for the win 🤣
@@marcusevjourney566 Yes of course, but you'll see how your bladder makes you stop sooner
It looks like I will be stuck with a Tesla. I am hoping there is much more choice that is available easily in the next years.
You can get a Hyundai Kauai/Kona with usefull 64 kWh that does 400 km at 120 km/h at highway. I do regulary Sintra-Carvoreiro with a single charge.
According to ABRP it does not. Telmo if it is that good, let’s do a video together in it. I will happily pay for tolls, electricity and your lunch. Contact me. I know the Kona is the efficiency King 👍
Easy choice! Awesome car!
Hopefully 👍
That is correct, the LFP batteries currently hold less energy per kg. It is not possible to build a long range Model 3 with them.
LFP is brilliant! Amazing efficiency. You live where that car is best suited.
Because of the glass roof it might get pretty hot inside the car in your region?
Yes, I plan to rent it to Germans in the summer as a portable sauna.
Good choice choosing the Tesla
Were currently near Faro driven down from UK
You gave me good advice on the Miio card yesterday
Thanks again
The new Kona is a candidate! The ride in Tesla is according to many not so smoth😮
Lewis, second-hand Tesla's should be cheaper now. Take advantage 😁
A friend had an ID3 and only now in winter she can not make one of her road trips without stopping to charge
Winter more difficult for any EV. The ID.3 has very good efficiency and range, however I just need 25kms more range not to stop and charge for 15 mins. I love the ID.3.
@@marcusevjourney566 it like her she just needs that distance - other than that she loves the car and do not miss going to a fueling station
Polestar 2 RWD long range?
Yes, I forgot about this car. It seems to be an excellent choice :-)
P.s love the vids, been really interesting
Thank you, Ian.
I think you should wait for the MG4 of 77kwh, it's coming very soon.
I should have said Kriss, not Chris. Haha!
You should not wait too long to buy the M3. The price can change quickly again in the opposite direction.
Yes, the sales person in the Tesla Store told me they only know about price changes 3 days before the clients. Don’t worry, I have already ordered 🤣 I will only lose 250 euros if I change my mind 👍
Did you ever charge to 100 %?

Happy wife, happy life 😊. I hope you keep te videos going, was your honest views that helped me decide on my Enyaq 60 which I love. Keep up the good work 😄
@Ian Jones Thank you Ian, I have many ideas for videos. I just need the time. I will do Tesla Model 3 reviews from an ID.3 perspective and not a fan boy perspective. Unless I turn into a Tesla fan boy 😱
@@marcusevjourney566 That's interesting! Can't wait!
What about Cupra Born 77kWh?
It is not available in Portugal.
@@marcusevjourney566 oh sorry to hear. The Tesla M3 RWD is in my eyes the best value for the money at the moment.
I'd wait for the new hardware though before I buy (M3SR+)
Ditching my ID.3 for a MY RWD. Love the car but need more space and ID.4 in Ireland now costs silly money compared to Tesla. PS not a hope you’ll get 270km at 120kmh in a 2.5 yo ID.3:)
Why didn’t you buy an ID4? The range is great.
I think he doesn't like SUV shapes. I tested an ID5 over a weekend and was very positively surprised, much more comfortable than the T. Model Y LR, even though the infotainment is nowhere near Tesla level, it's stable now and gets the job done, plus you get Android Auto & Apple Carplay with very good integration (e.g. google navigation is projected into the head-up display).
SUV is not for us.
@@QuiCestQuiÇa The ID.5 is a great car. It is extremely comfortable and familiar. Great range and efficiency for an SUV. It is just too big for us.
@@marcusevjourney566 it’s definitely not an suv. If you mean you can seat five people and have a 77kw battery, then I don’t know what car you’re after?
@@DaraM73 It is just too big for us. To be honest the Model 3 is also too big, but the ID.4 just seems bigger. Ideally a Zoe would be fantastic for us if it had the range. We like small cars. ID.3 is the perfect size for me, another bigger is too big 🤣👍 The ID.4 ticks all the boxes except for its size. I know many people prefer bigger cars we just don’t.
Kris Rifa, finally I got his name correct. What's up with me.??
Polestar 2?
I forgot about the Polestar 2. 👍 It starts at 53,400 € in Portugal and delivery is july/Aug 2023. It is a very good option.
@@marcusevjourney566 Yes it is. It will come with som updates. Larger battery/longer range, new electric motor and more efficient, rwd instead of fwd. Romour is they will release the specs very soon. And it is a hatchback 😀
@@boomchakalaka3 Big win for the Tesla is the supercharger network. Simply set the sat nav to the destination and it'll tell you where to charge and for how long along with what % you'll arrive with updated in real time. No fuss. no bother just plug in and away you go. It'll just work 99.999% of the time. PS2 is a great car, alas let down by range and efficiency. For trips less than 200km it's a real contender. Personally I wouldn't want to do multi country trips in it.
@@shanaerirynale Ok exactly the same as with our LRSM P2 then 😀. Drove 3600 km from Scandinavia to Costa del Sol at the same time as we did with our previous Tesla MS the year before, but at half the Charging cost than the Tesla suc. Love the P2. Plus the Tesla network are now open for all ev's in most of Europe. But we do not use it but nice to have a back up.
Treat yourself to the long range model Tesla or you’ll regret it. Still enjoying our id.3 12 months on .
@@marcusevjourney566 I wish you all the best in your new aventure. Personally even though Tesla is one of my favorite brands, have been doing lot of things wrong as of late. Really hope they can turn around and launch a more accessible Model "2" in the near future.
@@Nelsonrgpereira Yes, I have been waiting for the Model 2. It seems it takes forever for Tesla to bring out new models. The Model 2 would be smaller than the Model 3 and perfect, as the Model 3 is slightly too big IMHO.

@@marcusevjourney566 You can always keep your ID.3 and change your wife. This is definitely cheaper! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
HAPPY WIFE, HAPPY LIFE. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
What about the BMW i4?

I was going to check the price, but you answered that question for me. :-). I have a budget under 50k euros :-)
You
The Smart is crap at all.
Just get the long range
ID 3 the worst EV on the market - what expect from a diesel gate brand
I disagree, I love my VW ID.3. It is an amazing EV, better than most. I think it will be better than my Tesla Model 3, in many ways. I will wait and see.
