I have a local butcher shop that also has a meat processing facility in the adjacent town. I get Beef Fat for .30-.40/lb. I live in WI so we have an excess of meat processing and in fact one of the larger cattle processing facilities that can do 12k+ head/day is
My dilemma: inline purchase you don't know what you're getting AND my son lost a whole batch of venison from bad tallow at a reputable local farm...with 5 kids and a wife that smarts...I want to render my own but can't afford brisket! You are gifted at this young lady...bible says we older women are to teach the younger but I've learned from you! Thank you🌺🧡🌺💛🌺Boise Idaho
Love your RUclipss! I buy my 100% grass fed/grass finished beef tallow from Millers Organic Farm in PA. They ship anywhere. It’s less than $6.00 per quart and great quality:-) I use it to make the balm that you demonstrated and also for making fat bombs:-)
I looked up this farm and they have a bunch of bad reviews from people saying they are dishonest, the FDA is trying to shut them down, they aren't certified, their raw milk is not raw, and so on. They also want a $35.OO memebership fee to order from them. Use at your own risk!
Hello I became disabled in 2003 I was depressed for years I find soap making looks very peaceful What us the simplest way to begin I had a stroke andcim dealing with one hand but I want to try this any suggestions? Thanks great video
I’m so sorry to hear that! Yes, I think it’s a very peaceful, relaxing activity, and fun and creative at the same time. I think I could do most of it with one hand. The hard part might be pouring the soap into the molds. I always use two hands for that. Do you have a friend who could help? 💕
I wanted to make my own shaving soap, I am very into the whole old ways self sufficient idea but I couldn't find tallow. You gave me what I needed. Thank you ;).
Thanks for this information. I have just experimented with lard, honeycomb and some essential oil mix of geranium, chamomile and orange. The honeycomb had quite a bit of honey in it so my product is a little bit sticky till it is absorbed but I think it ended up giving me a headache from the essential oils...they are 100% but maybe not appropriate for skin or maybe I put too much in....I'm not sure but I was just experimenting with what I had on hand and look forward to getting some tallow in the future to try some of the products you make they all look so great!!!
What a fun creation! Yes, if the essential oils are giving you a headache, it's probably because they're too strong. They are quite powerful, so a little goes a long way! I only use 24 drops in a 4 oz. container of balm. Geranium and chamomile are especially strong ones, and you may need to use even less of those. They should all be good for skin, though. Thank you so much for sharing what you're making, and for watching! 😊💕
I called a local butcher here and they have beef fat 1.99 a lb....but it's not grassfed organic. Soooo I'm going to call my father in law in Moffat Colorado and when they butcher have him freeze and save the fat for me! We will have to make a trip this spring and put it on dry ice and drive it back!
I would like to purchase beef tallow for consumption from your apothecary. Do you sell your food grade tallow along with your balms and other products? Thank you!
I am trying to render my own be fat I procure that a local Fred Meyers. Using a little bit of water and I'm doing it on the stove not sure how many hours I'm supposed to do this figured I would look at it after 30 minutes and then let it go a little bit longer the longer I don't think I should go much more than 2 hours?. Play plan on making a keto chicken nugget. Chicken chunks breaded with pork grinds and fried and beef tallow
Hi. I see you have an Etsy shop. I love making my own lotions too. But I never know how to print my stickers or where to get jars to make it look fancy. Could you give me some ideas? Thank you
Thank you so much for making this video I want to make tallow soap with a swirl. Do you have any suggestions I have never made soap before but I am so excited to try
You're very welcome, and that sounds so fun! I haven't made soap with color, but this should help: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/back-to-basics-crisp-cotton-swirl-cold-process/ You should be able to use my tallow soap recipe for the soap, and then add the color and follow the steps to make the swirl design :)
I thought I cloud use your tallow soap recipe for the swirled soap I have not made soap yet but I am so excited to try. I am a twelve-year-old girl and I want to make a business out of soap making. I found your channel when I was looking up how to make whipped tallow. Your channel is so informational and I watch your videos all the time. Thank you so much! 🐝
How do you price your products? I live in a small town and we have a bunch of people who produce things from their farms, etc. and we barter our products with each other, but I don’t know how to price things… any recommendations on how to determine pricing?
Hi Merissa, thank you for all this great information! I have been watching your videos for a few weeks now. I have made your face cleanser and ordered your bar soap online. Today I am making your magnesium lotion, sunscreen lotion. I have 2 questions, is there a difference in tallow you cook with or tallow you use for lotions? Also, I saw in one of your videos that you had buckets of tallow ( I think it was tallow) where do you get those large buckets? And how do you pick a tallow? Are their guidelines on brands? Thanks for all you do!
Thank you! You can render tallow different ways, some people use the dry method for cooking and the wet method for skincare and soap. I haven't bought tallow in buckets, I get raw fat and render it myself :) You can buy rendered tallow, and I recommend looking for grass fed tallow. Here is a good one: shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1378709&u=2281503&m=51217&urllink=&afftrack=
Hello! Yes, lamb or sheep tallow is very good also! It is less readily available where I live, but I believe the nutrient content is about the same as beef. It would make wonderful balm, soap, and be good for cooking! 😊
Epic has rendered grass-fed tallow. On their website they mention candle making & eating. Should I render it again for soap making or is it good as is, worried about possible smell.
Yes! I have a video where I show how to make an herb infused tallow salve here: ruclips.net/video/xCslkP6PGPQ/видео.html and tallow black salve here: ruclips.net/video/qHZBXI8m_4o/видео.html
