Then when he addressed her interrupting with you are right. The other dude chimes in and says Mays is taking the floor.... They are out of pocket and the residents of flint should collect money and do a massive recall.

@@mslady5952 go to the 34 minute mark. Eric called a point of order, in which he was right, just wouldn't let it go. He continues to go back to the thing he was right on and he just loses it. He appeals the ruling in which he was right. And then brings up "white privilege". He was out of pocket even when he was right.
She interrupted him to tell him he was right. His only point was that he should be allowed to finish his statement before others start to talk. If he is off topic, then they should call point of order. But she interrupted him to say he’s right. She should’ve waited until he finished his statement, even to say he’s right. It’s like they are constantly trying to silence him as quickly as possible

It’s stunning to watch the assertion by the chair and others that race is not a factor in who gets disciplined, who gets listened to, and who is not reprimanded for speaking out of turn. Flint City Council meetings could make a great case study for a doctoral student studying discourse, language, power, and race. Why is the chair so ignorant of correct procedure that she needs to be continually reminded about procedure by Mr. Mays? How can it be that Ms. Worthing doesn’t know what redlining is. And she’s a teacher? This board needs to recognize that it is getting so much national attention not because it’s funny, but rather because people love the fact that Councilman Mays continues to stand up against withering dismissive displays from his colleagues. They admire and are inspired by his strength. When he can actually speak, he is consistently the most prepared. He is consistently the one who asks the most intelligent and weighty questions.

If Eric Mays would have jumped out his seat at another council member, he would have been kicked out and arrested!! Redlining is exactly how it's worded. They redistrict the maps according to wear mostly black districts are and literally draw a red line on the maps so they will know what districts are black and are systematically targeted and not given resources therefore, those black stay impoverished. Councilwoman Tonya Burns was trying make things fair to those Redlined (Black) districts and EVA WORTHLNG wanted those Redlined (Black) districts to remain impoverished with no resources.

When Quincy finishes speaking you see Mr. Pfiffer nudges Allie and she begins speaking… while Allie is speaking, it appears they see Ladel coming in and as soon as she comes in, they try to call for the vote! There definitely seems to be some type of conspiracy amongst those council persons…I just don't like the appearance of them being sneaky, not that it's their intent to be sneaky....

Why? What has this man done over the course of his 10 year term as councilman other than deflect and obstruct the legislative process. His antics are self centered and serve no true purpose in helping his constituents. It is shameful how a few have sensationalized his inappropriate behavior on social media to gain clicks and views while the citizens in Flint suffer. There are real families, real children, real elderly, who have been directly impacted by this and previous council’s negligence and mismanagement of funds. Due to the city’s negligence, citizens are forced to deal with poisoned water, failing pipes, sewage problems, blight and garbage issues; which has also become a health hazard, and some, who are clueless, chant and regurgitate frivolous words of admiration. All who watch these hearings should be outraged by this council’s collective ineffectiveness, not champion and rally behind a man who is truly one of the greatest impediments to the citizens.
This entire council needs to be dissolved for dereliction of duty and the County Commissioners should oversee the management of the city business and finances.

At approximately 2:11:00 I called it before I even watched it that somehow Councilman Murphy was going to make it about him standing up for himself and others when he got it started whispering (with a hot mic) that "he needs to turn off his phone, it keeps ringing". I could see if he was answering it and texting or even looking down at it like Councilwoman Worthing does at least once every meeting I've seen. Also, Councilman Mays didn't personally attack Councilman Murphy, he simply said what happened and that it was unequal treatment. If it wasn't about them not liking him, they would've simply helped their elder colleague with turning his phone on silent.

I can not believe this is real. They all need to do a class on Roberts Rules and do team bonding.
Mays does not solely make the city look bad. They all make the city look bad. Mays is elected to that seat, they have to learn how to work with him if they like him or not. If you watch, Mays does not start anything, he only responds. "when they go low, I go lower." They need to stop going low.
This president constantly forgets basic steps procedure, which leads to this mess. They want to be strict but can't hold themselves to that standard. It can be as simple as printing out a step by step guide to basic motions, what to say and what rules apply. When a motion is made use your finger and follow along, read your script. You can be loose in the rules or you can follow them to the letter, you can not pick and choose which rules when to be strict about.
They also need a Secretary. The chair does not need to be writing down motions as they happen and editing the agenda document, it's to much for them to keep track of while trying to move things along. Any other body has a secretary for that.

Whenever I watch Flint City Council meeting versus Newark there is a complete difference. Newark has another person reading the agenda and the president is the only person chairing the meeting. There is no back and forth between council members and even when residents get loud they are able to get things in order professionally. As much as I like Eric Mays, he is always out of order and always trying to school the other members of what they should be doing.

Ms Winfrey Carter is only one vote, Ms Burns is on that turning her head the other way by abstaining instead of just saying No when she clearly sees what's going on. Mr Mays may not be ur ortodoxed politician but I believe him to be True and a person who really believes in what he's doing.
Ms. Burns didnt sustain she appealed. Burns usually seconds Mays appeals for shit like this (the 6 of them targeting mays). Her whole deal is that she tries her best to be ethical and unbiased. In this case she was right, she wasn't there and didn't see it go down so although in my opinion there is more that enough evidence showing what goes down almost every meeting but abstaining is the more ethical and safer option. No one can say she didn't see what happened or that she is biased because she can cite this and other instances of not flip plopping on her morals and having integrity. It's also a perfect way to highlight Lewis doing the exact opposite and voting to throw him out without the full picture. Every single one of them forgot with Point of Order Mays was appealing and instead made statements advocating to throw him out rather than people speaking over him or his first warning. They don't listen. They don't care to hear him and by extension the voice of the 1st ward.
To be clear it really doesn't matter tho cus they usually have the votes to throw him out and by ganging up on him it doesn't matter what he does. If they want him out they will justify it (sloppily) all of them, Burns and WC will both (if present) support his appeal, reiterate that what they are doing and keep doing is wrong, the 6 will all speak up (which hardly ever happens for the people's business) barely staying germain and mostly just refuting points, lying and defending the shattered remains of their character. Order will last for 1 minutes to an hour before WC or Burns get fed up or punished for backing Mays or the people back Mays during their speaking time or the chair shows their inability to do so without mays' instructions. Either way their agendas will be passed and no one will ask the hard, skeptical questions of the administration cus mays is the only one who does not care about making friends or showing they put the people with very little power first over those who do.

I'm sorry, im not from Flint nor do I live there so take the following black opinion how you want:
As far as the money going to the residents, if this council is gonna vote on the issues pertaining to that, their votes should be weighted based on the amount of damage and ability to pay it AND every ward representative should have to be present to vote. No throwing mays out cus this is extremely suspicious. How you gonna throw out the representative of a predominantly black ward experiencing some of the most barriers, when Mays made the order to give those in need at least something quickly cus he is constantly silenced and by extension the 1st ward. I dont like how the demographics of these wards are reflected on council and the disregard some members give their residents. I especially dont like how expedited/planned or like a "fortuitous coincidence" (whichever you prefer) it was that Mays was kicked out before this vote right as Lewis arrived. Nope. This is an egregious disregard for the 1st ward, not just Mays. They matter, and so does their voice.
