Road Trip America EP:2 - Riding The Loneliest Highway In America

- In 1986, Life magazine dubbed Highway 50 the "Loneliest Road in America" and warned its readers not to travel on it as there were no points of interest.
In looking at the map, highway 50 didn't exactly strike me as motorcycling heaven. With its dead straight roads and desert like conditions, it seems better suited for RVs instead of motorcycles, but I did notice that it was built following the old route of the Pony Express.
And like most motorcyclists, I'd like to think that I could have made it as a cowboy, so I decided to check out this historic highway for myself.

Did it on a concourse 14 . Between the mountain peaks seemed to only take seconds with a effortless twist of the Throttle
Fantastic. You managed to make a dead straight road, into a very interesting and fun motorcycle video. Top job.
Thanks! That was my goal.
I am revisiting your video that I watched a year or so ago in my research of the CB 500x. Anyway, Highway 50 actually starts in West Sacramento, California. It travels passed Folsom, CA, where I live, through South Lake Tahoe, then into Carson City, Nevada. There is a sign in West Sacramento that says Highway 50 ends on the east coast (Maryland??) in 3000 miles.
Awesome thank for the info. I might have to ride the whole thing one day!
The other end of HWY50 is in Ocean City, Md.
Is that the 700? Nice to see a little high speed run. Great video and thanks for sharing!
This was on my CB500X.
Excellent documentary., with great visuals. 🤍 from the City of Joy.
Great films mate ,keep it up
Great job with the ride. Showing the road & history. Looks excellent. New here and rider also. Safe travels
Thanks for watching.
Wow! Been waiting for this. I really like the way you tell story! Hope i could do the same.
Thanks! I appreciate you watching.
There is so much fun exploring around Eureka, Nv. If you ever end up in Northern Nevada again, look me up. I would love to show you around. Great Video and New Sub.
You mean there's road that actually have corners on them? 😉
I grew up in Ely (pronouced E-lee). Why didn't you start in Carson City and get the full experience of Highway 50 East.
I was coming down from the Alvord Desert in Oregon, so I didn't want to ride all the way to Carson City just to turn around and ride back.
Hi, thank you for making this series. I'm starting to watch them since I found your channel. What year is your CB500X? I have a 2015, with the suspension upgraded with Rally Raid.
Mine is a 2018 model with stock suspension. You'll like your upgraded suspension if you take your bike off road.
@@AnthonyJoh Yes I ride it off-road all the time. With the new suspension underneath it doesn't kick you up all the time. We load up our gear and go camping as well. You can pack a lot on the bike now. The new suspension makes a big difference.
I've heard others say the same. It's an expensive but worthwhile upgrade.
Mr. G's is an italian restaurant. NOT a strib club. LOL. But now I will never be able to think of it as any other thing. LOL
lol! Next time I'm riding through the area I'll have to stop there for dinner.
Great mix of motorcycle riding and history. How did you like the bike at highway speed ? I believe you sold your CB500X for a Tiger 900, correct ? The lack of power annoyed you that much ? Cheers
Yeah I bought a Tiger when I got back. The Honda is just too slow for me on the highway. I love the acceleration of the Triumph!!
@@AnthonyJoh what's too slow? 120-130km/h?
@@martindlx9344 Acceleration is too slow.
@@AnthonyJoh I hear you. After a few bigger bikes, I'm getting a brand new CB500X 2022 next week. I feel it will be a good compromise between commuting and longer trips in Europe.
Anyway, love you channel man, take care
@@martindlx9344 Enjoy the new bike!
I am so envious. What a beautiful continent - there is such beauty and diversity - in all directions - where you can ride. Whilst there are indeed many places of unique beauty in ‘my’ continent (🦘), compared to your part of the world they are few, far away and far apart because our interior is largely ‘empty’. How I would loved to have visited the redwood forests in my lifetime (all power to John Muir). Thank you for sharing your beautiful videos. (Another CB500X owner (2021 model)). 🦘
Yes we're pretty lucky here. I saw a video a while back of a guy riding through the Outback and there was nothing but miles and miles of corrugated dirt roads! That pretty much put an end to my idea of riding across Australia. ;)
👍👍👍👍👍👍
where to refill a fuel on the long highway ?
There are some gas stations along the highway. Good to fill up when you see one even if your tank isn't fully empty.
👍👍👍
Hmm, is "Donkey" a Jack or a Jenny?
