Well, they didn't do it easily, but they won a series that I think was a must-win.
Shoulda swept this series handily. The Rangers are pitiful on the road this year yet they almost took two out of three from us.

@@sean2015 Also since the trade deadline the only 2 series that have won have come against the worst team in majors in the 3rd worse team. So not sure why some fans are getting their hopes up after this series win or acting like this is for sure gonna be some sort of turning point. This team is still 5-15 since the deadline against teams not named the Orioles or Rangers
@@wisewolftony let this be a lesson to Red Sox management: always do something before the trade deadline even if it means acquiring a pitcher who throws like John Wasdin

Nice that we can win a series against the Rangers, but this team needs to find some consistency and quick if they want to make the playoffs.

Whitlock has to be the closer with Barnes pitching like this. He can pitch the 8 and 9 inning every other game/when needed.
As a Sox fan, I think we were lucky to stay in this game, let alone have the chance to win it and take the series. Other than the 2 starts by Chris Sale, our bullpen has wasted quality starts and rather than dominating and playing to win, we’ve been playing not to lose (there’s a difference) ever since the All-Star Break. This game was no exception but we came out on top for once. Not taking anything away from the stellar defense, the fine relief of Whitlock, the tone-setting AB’s by Verdugo and Renfroe, the late game heroics by Devers or the walk-off GSHR by Shaw, this does not change the fact that we should have played better at home against a clearly inferior team. We still have a lot of hard work ahead to get to the the playoffs, let alone make a deep postseason push. On the other hand, Shaw being back and coming up big in the moments that matter is most definitely a welcome sight. Schwarber has been solid, which I hope continues
Very well said. I've been super upset with how sub par the Sox have been since after the All Star break... It's sad, we dominated on every aspect. Got even better pieces to add to the team and we are losing left and right. We dominated Al East and now were behind Tampa

Lucky! That Devers hit especially as Peters was robbing everything at CF all series. I'm glad we won the game but my goodness we are playing some bad baseball right now.
Didn’t that ball bounce off his wrist? With the bases chucked and nobody out in the bottom of the 11th, the win was predictable but not the net result

Great win Red Sox! Boy did we need it! Just sad they couldn’t get Nate the win 😕. Anyways it wasn’t a pretty one, but I’ll take it! I think Barnes should temporarily be replaced by Garrett in the closer role, right now I feel like he can’t be trusted tbh. So yeah, Red Sox gotta stay consistent and win these series. And what a clutch hit by Raffy in the 10th to tie it! And Trav hitting that grand slam to win the game. Hopefully that’ll get him going. Oh and cannot overlook Garrett ‘s performance today! He was amazing! 👏🏽 ⚾️.

This team has lost its oomph! A lot of the flaws that were masked earlier in the season are coming to fruition now. I still think organizationally there’s bigger plans for this team. I think it surprised them that this team would play this well. This team is definitely not a World Series contender. Biggest disappointment for me is Erod.

No what they need is to prove they can win a series that isn't against teams with the worst and 3rd worse record in baseball. Which are the only 2 series they have won since the trade deadline. Other then that they are 5-15 against all other teams they have faced since then.

@@ce2987 Problem is he can only throw once a every 5 days. And that they still have only won 3 series since the trade deadline. And those series are against the Rangers, Baltimore and Twins who have the 1st 2nd and 3rd worst records in the AL Rangers and Baltimore have the 1st and 2nd worst in all of baseball. While the Sox are still 5-15 against everyone else. So we will see what they can do in the next 6 series when they play all teams with records over .500 including 2 series against the Rays and one against the White Sox.

Actually, because of this win, the Red Sox now have the 2nd WC spot, and now the Athletics are out of the playoffs.
Old saw: championship teams don't have long, or more than a few, losing streaks.
The '13 team lost 3 out of 4 in late May. That was it. The '18 team lost three in a row in late August, period.
In 2013, they came outta nowhere (well, not a total surprise) and just won consistently over six months. In 2018, they were the best team on the planet. Neither one lost more then two in a row, except as noted. I contrast these two to show you don't have to win 108.
But solid contenders don't lose six in a row or 13 out of 16 (16 is 10% of your season, btw). Can you see *this* club beating the Astros in five? Let's not think about the Giants.
Unless they turn things around in one immense hurry (JD, Barnes, E-Rod), uh-uh. Fuhgeddaboutit.
They *could* do it. But my feelings are just, as the Brits say, "Not bloody likely, mate." Too few games left and they need 5/8 down the stretch - just for the WC. And they finish with three in an NL park.

I was there and it was the craziest game ever, I’ve been to 2 of the walk offs this season, renfroe vs yankee, sac fly, and now Shaw grand slam, for people who want to go to a game soon, night games are 10x better
I know it was an afternoon game but, come on, the ballpark was 1/3 full.
It was a rescheduled game from the past because of Hurricane Henri. Also fenway is one of the only ballparks in MLB that is always soldout, mostly for night games
