Didn't Branch love Poppy from the first film. I mean wasn't he deeply in love with her. I mean that's what I got from the first film especially when he's in his bunker looking at the card Poppy gave him. And the when sang her to her and did basically say he loved her.

I love this relationship. They balance each other out with their different personalities, and they love each other, regardless of how much they fight, bicker, or get into sticky situations. I love how Poppy is sweet, open, and just supportive of Branch, especially in the first movie, when she was the only troll that actually tried to reach out to him. She really helps him open up and just encourages him all the way.
As for Branch, yeah, he's closed off and is certainly reserved (we all know it's out of personal trauma). And he definitely took some time to express his feelings for Poppy. But he also was the first one to support her whether that was when Poppy's antics went too far, when she was sad or upset, or needed someone to help her stay grounded. These two are the best and they deserve each other! Go Broppy!!! 💕💕💕

They started as people who heavily disliked each other lmao. Branch in the trailers said that he considered Poppy "a nightmare", the whole interactions about "you don't know anything Poppy, i can't wait for when you realize the world isn't all cupcakes and rainbows", "I hope the answer is singing dancing and hugging since that's all you know how to do. I can't believe you are going to be queen one day" give you a clue that this is true in the movie as well, and during the first film, even if she tried to include him, Poppy gets constantly frustrated with Branch: rolls her eyes at him, apes him, etc

Actually in the first movie, branch likes poppy but didn’t know how to express his feelings. I could see it 😅
One part, he saved her. Another one, he said “goodnight” right after poppy said goodnight to creek. And another one, he even smiled at her when she strangled creek 👀 and during the song “true colours” he admitted his feelings
