Lois Tipping correct me if I’m wrong but I thought that gig was Sunday 21st March 1982 , they also played bingley hall the previous night on the Saturday but that one wasn’t filmed.
I was there at Bingley ! Was billed as being their last gig ever, but then they played one last time at Brighton, just added on at the end as a Goodbye i guess ! I could not get down there (
how lovely for those well behaved young fans back then to have been invited in, bet they are still made up over it. Fantastic gesture the Jam used to do. Top blokes !
I went to the loo at the Brighton centre way before the gig started and a big hairy bloke came in and asked me and my mate if we wanted to go in for the sound check, of course we said yesss, little boy soldiers was the first full tune they checked... ah memories
soundcheck in leicester 81,they did a few they did a few songs then weller said 'any requests'....a few shouted jam songs out, when it went quiet my mate shouted 'my generation' on that weller left the stage...they were good sports though when they all signed the side panel of his vespa
Grandby Hall? I was there as well, they came off stage and chatted with us, I gave Rick a Benson & Hedges, had a chat with Paul and Bruce, photo as well, still have it, De Montfort sound check a year earlier in 1980 too, best days of my life!
If it is Bingley Hall, I saw them the night before at the Manchester Apollo. Also 3 years earlier at Blackburn King Georges Hall with The Vapors as support support
what other band would /could do this.such a massive following in brum must explain why so many post's come from the bingley hall gig.though i am biased i refuse to complain.don't care where there the footage come's from, as long as it come's.
What a little gem 💎 thanks for posting. Is that the Bingley Agricultural Hall in Stafford? Also Thin Lizzie used to let us in to their SC’s. Happy days.😷😎😁

Me too.. Birmingham, Stafford Leicester de montfort. All the London gigs as well . I went to all the 5 nights at Wembley at the end .. 3 of the nights on my own!! And last one at Brighton
Saw they in Glasgow in early 1982 at the Apollo standing in the Queue with the damned album machine gun etiquette in a plastic bag getting slagged off mods
@Paulaner20 I was fifteen at the time. Didn't get to speak with them. Once the soundcheck finished they disappeared from stage and we all had to go back out onto the street. Great memory though.
Maybe Paul shoulda took Bruce to one side and said " sort yer hair out" or summat along those lines...Bruce was a great bass player snd backing singer, but maybe, back then, people couldn't see depth, in shallowness?
Always let their fans into sound checks. Bloody brilliant. Looks like it as filmed yesterday
I was in one. Just me and my mate. That was it.
Imagine we'd had access to this in the 80s and 90s. It was difficult enough to find snap on vhs. RUclips is brilliant for this.
They cared so much about their fans and always let a few into sound checks. Top guys.
Went t see them on this tour at Newcastle city hall more people in their soundchecks than most bands today get at gigs .Legends.
The Jam were so good, even when sound checking!
Cant believe how many they allowed in for a sound check..that is so good see, a band with a big heart!
Working class,peoples band!
I got in to see the check in Cardiff on the Sound Effects tour 1982? I remember they played Dreamtime
loved the soundchecks, really informal, fantastic memories...
cant tell you how much I would have given to see this and be in a sound check.
I was actually there, bunked off school to catch it what memories, best band in the world
Lois Tipping correct me if I’m wrong but I thought that gig was Sunday 21st March 1982 , they also played bingley hall the previous night on the Saturday but that one wasn’t filmed.
Me and a few pals bunked off Hammersmith odeon, the band were so kind about 30 or so of us for a good hour and a half magic 🇬🇧🍀👍

Weller: always the coolest cat in the room. Excellent post, Aceface!
saw the last gig in Toronto , still have the tour brochure and The Gift record. Awesome.
how lovely for those well behaved young fans back then to have been invited in, bet they are still made up over it. Fantastic gesture the Jam used to do. Top blokes !
I was lucky to see almost the same soundcheck in Toronto
But there was maybe 2 dozen of us. Lucky us!
Ohh, what i would give to have seen them live!
Looks like whitley bay ice rink and me and my mates were at the front, happy days.
so happy this was caught on film, lucky guys there watching this
A rare clip! Thanks!
love this.
Oh thanks for posting this clip...so intimate. I'd personally would have liked to heard an entire "Tales from the Riverbank".

Hilarious
haha
Wow excellent
Remember seeing this tour at Queens Hall Leeds, similar spot, big car park normally but packed out for the concert
Amazing. Thanks so much
This is great to see. Thank you.
The jam today would fill stadiums
Definitely, they were the biggest-selling band in England when they split up.
They could easily have done it back then too but liked smaller venues more
@@greglyons2526they filled Wembley
still canny get over how great they were.
I saw them on this tour 👍
I went to the loo at the Brighton centre way before the gig started and a big hairy bloke came in and asked me and my mate if we wanted to go in for the sound check, of course we said yesss, little boy soldiers was the first full tune they checked... ah memories
This footage is now 40 yrs old, yet it looks like it could have been recorded this morning on a smartphone. What an amazing band.

sound check is like a soundtrack of my youth
at any point youre waiting for weller to say one...two...three...four...
Banging tune
So cold in there you can see their breath!
How cold is it in there?! You can see his breath while he's singing. It'd suck to sound check in the cold like that but they still sound great!
looking at the band, No mobile phones.....what they see is what they save in their heads.
Dave Liddle in his Iron Maiden shirt!!! The Jam and Maiden, the two bands I grew up on!!!!
raw and genius
how cool is he
fuckin timeless. wot a band
its i dont know? simply calming
Great to see loyal Dave Liddle the guitar tech on a film clip. The best mod hippy punk metal tech nice gent.
sounds like ......that's entertainment
Foxton with the 6 string piccolo bass!

Bit sad how it's turning out ?
Iknow its auto wah but i still dont get how he plays the strings and gets the sound
It's alright, his nail is a bit broken!. Wow this is the shizzle. Those boys on brass. Fucking amazing vid.
Sunday night? I was at the sound check the Saturday... think he was wearing a red jacket? stood by him as a 16 year old, bottled it to talk....
theaceface, thank you, Sat or Sunday night mate? Thank you
There's something about it being hand-held that makes it seem strangely very recent, not 34 years ago.
What a little gem 💎 thanks for posting. Is that the Bingley Agricultural Hall in Stafford? Also Thin Lizzie used to let us in to their SC’s. Happy days.😷😎😁
@All Eyes On You Thanks, RUclips descriptions, who knew 😆
Foxton ...the worlds coolest man in his crombie....
Weller stole them pants, and Rupert wants them back!
Is the guitar sound on Precious an automatic wah? There's no pedal action.
Back in '82, probably a touch wah.. Boss TW1.
Auto wah yea
Its so cold they had the coats on. Turn up the heat! Who are the blokes on the horns?
When they wore the Union Jack, I felt safe....it was ok
Brilliant post as usual Aceface! Keep em coming, where did you find this fella?
Incrível essa a banda
cheers mate
Dave liddle there 5th season 👍
Which venue? Looks like Stafford bingley hall?
the riff at 2:39, what song is that
Tales From The Riverbank.
Yes y from the river bank
Why was it so cold in there? You can see their breath.

not much camaraderie between them here.
General Motors looks like it was dead between them no laughing
They all know it was at a end
And the band was being split up
Weller wanted to move on

Birmingham's Bingley hall

Where s that? Looks like the Ally Pally
Innocuous setting but he mashes Precious.
No reaction from the crowd when they start playing "Precious"? Nothing? Why don't they know this song?
because "a town called mallice" is the only exit of the album
Im there in the crowd 🙈
do you see anything? Does your mind go blank in the humid sunshine?
Is that Stafford?
Weller's guitar work, though.
Back when weller wasn't pretentious
God, remember when I bought the album. I'd got the money for it by tapping the birds up at the youth club the night before
@All Eyes On You Haha! Yeah right,I must have been all of 14yrs old😉
I am in that crowd somewhere
@Paulaner20 I was fifteen at the time. Didn't get to speak with them. Once the soundcheck finished they disappeared from stage and we all had to go back out onto the street. Great memory though.
@Paulaner20 yes The Jam, Style Council and Weller solo has been teh soundtrack of my life. Great music and great diversity within that music
I’m guessing it helps with the acoustics for the sound check having an audience.
Maybe Paul shoulda took Bruce to one side and said " sort yer hair out" or summat along those lines...Bruce was a great bass player snd backing singer, but maybe, back then, people couldn't see depth, in shallowness?
