    Reminds me I really need to post an update on how to use a cheap microcontroller to achieve the same thing.

    Really useful, great detail on connections using the Pi; got a Pi 3B knocking around somewhere unused so this is worth a try.

    That's cool! I think that jt-4000 micro can be really great if you already have other gear that you can easily put it in chain with.

      Thanks pal. Yeah, its certainly not a standalone device. The keyboard isn’t what I’d call playable - but useful to check the thing works!

    Out of the box MIDI routing in the Raspberry Pi?! Who knew! Awesome, thanks for the walkthrough. I wonder if it works on a Pi Zero as I have a few of them laying around (plus they are cheaper, albeit need an external USB hub to connect the devices into it)

    • @3dims
      @3dims  8 месяцев назад +2

      No worries. I’ve been experimenting with the Pi to use more of its power, so expect to see this original idea expanded upon.

    • @patrickm.4469
      @patrickm.4469 7 месяцев назад +2

      Pi Zero should work fine, its such a tiny amount of computation to route the MIDI data compared to what the Pi Zero is capable of. You are correct about the powered hub I'm sure too

    • @3dims

      I would suggest having a look at the RPi 2 power supply. I find that different USB plugs are better at isolating electrical interference than others. What are you using?

    I bought one on a whim and quickly sold it. It is a neat device, but even with workarounds like this, it is almost literally a VST in a box. I could only see myself using it with a Max4 Live programmer/librarian in my DAW, and at that point I might as well just be using a VST anyway.

    • @3dims
      @3dims  9 месяцев назад

      Fair enough. If there wasn’t an analogue filter then I’d be right there with you. For me, the filter makes the JT-4000 good VFM.

    This how you deal with a sound you like, I have had a lot of fun with mine, I didn’t go as far as yo did, but I have ordered what I need to make it MIDI, one guy says it’s a toy? I’m having some gum with it, this will be my first time adding MIDI capabilities I’ll have a total of 4, I don’t know if I can turn it 16 voices, going to try. It’s just for fun and a learning experience I’ll be adding a user made osilator, for fun. I’m doing it for any other reason!

    The number of people, purely dawless is minute. Most people who play out live will have a laptop or ipad in the mix BUT.. For the minimal cost to Behringer, they should have put 3.5mm midi ports on it.. And of course they know that this would inspire lots of RUclips videos on the matter.. Whats the ole saying? Any publicity is.... 😂

    • @3dims
      @3dims  9 месяцев назад

      That’s refreshing to hear… I’ve moved between Dawless and hybrid over the years, but if you read some of the comments on my last video you’d think not having midi in was the living end. There may be some truth in leaving stuff out, either to encourage upsell or discussion.
