Awesome video Steve, I like this direction for the channel. I find Dan Trix on youtube is a great channel for seeing the effects I have read in books. He often gets me going back to my bookshelf to read up on a trick I have just seen him do.
The worse thing for me is authors that assume that you know every move ever used. It is very frustrating. Then you come to some move that was in a book 40 years ago . Great post. Patrick Whalen
Great video! Worth the wait. Love the whole list but 9 and 10 are so, so important. It's ok to check out a video if you can't visualize it. This has been my go to strategy for almost everything. Glad you're "back," glad you're well. Can't wait for the next one.
Thanks for posting this Steve. Like you I am ADHD. I am also an enthusiast so even though I am a beginner I bought a lot of books and videos thinking I would learn a lot of tricks really quickly. I have been pretty excited AND overwhelmed. So your answering my email with this video is both generous and useful. So glad I signed up with onlinemagic. Being reminded to focus on the learning process and thinking it's only mastering the trick that matters is a great reminder. And hearing that learning tricks from a book takes time, repeatedly reading the trick (challenging for us ADHD folks) and not trying to learn several tricks in one sitting (you didn't exactly say that but what you say here got me to keep that in mind.) So thanks Steve and I hope what you talked about here helps others who have been struggling with trying to learn from books. My best.
Love this video. Such good advice. I have always struggled with books but recently bought Afterglow by John Graham. There is a video of his full performance so you can see what you are trying to do which helps me make sense of it. I have previously given up early because i didn't learn tricks as quickly as i thought i should but I am enjoying sitting down with this book and working my way through it a bit at a time. Anyway, thanks Steve. Looking forward to more of this type of video.
Alex just sent me a copy of Encyclopedia of Card Tricks. So nice to have stuff I can still do. Liking the books more and more. Get off the 'new trick' cycle. Cheers Steve, great video.

Totally agree. It really does help to see the trick performed before and after you’ve read it in a book.

Yes it's so common! That's why I love Card College so much. All the moves and great tricks.
