    The movie has respected the mythology, the Indian culture, values.I dont agree to the poverty portrayal of India in general.But the sad truth is caste system is a truth in India in certain parts.If Dev is trying to address the truth of caste system there is nothing wrong.Just because some section of the society dont experience poverty, or caste or colour based descrimination in India doesnt mean it doesnt exist.

      I agree that the caste system is very prevalent in North India. Like the surname is a depiction of which caste you are in North India. South India doesn't have that tho.

    I am seeing some insecure upper caste hindus in the comment section who are unaware of the reality of india.
    800 million people in India need govt food assistant for basic grains fyi.
    Labor participation of women is one of the lowest
    Anti caste violence is regular
    Indigenous land from indigenous people (tribal communities) in India are being destroyed by the cronies(govt and the corporations) , etc,etc,etc
    So also the maker of the film is a descendant of Indians,he is well aware of South Asian culture.
    It's not a literal pov of India so the story Would have meta lens ,so it would have one consistent note of India as a background to bring out the characters more(crimes,caste violence and discrimination,class inequality,religion,culture),as the movie is about that topic.
    Don't be an insecure Indian who is insecure of the reality of their own nation's situation.
    To u India is "doing well" as food delivery,10 min grocery delivery services and Netflix,Spotify are now available,see how much India is "developing".
    At most 10 %of India(as the buying population of India is between 5 to 10 %) can afford this "development"
    Oppressed caste communities in India,South Asia would be happy with this movie (around 20 % of India's population is so called upper caste and the rest is so called lower caste,st),that their oppression is being shown to the world unlike the domestic major Indian film makers who don't want to touch caste with a 10 feet pole.

      I think most people are aware of all that you said. My only issue is I've seen this so so so many times in Hollywood already. • @shushunk00
      @shushunk00 5 месяцев назад

      @@govinddas7876 "India as a back drop" ,this whole movie is India exclusively,u can't get more India than that in a foreign made production.
      Also as I mentioned already it's made by a person who is passionate about his vision and what he wanted to share with the non Indian world ,he is well aware of culture and politics of South Asia.
      Go watch his interviews ,see how eager and passionate he is about this project ,he hasn't just made that just for the sake of making it.

    We don't have a release date to this movie yet and by the time it will get released in India 90% of the world will have already watched it and somehow spread the spoilers in social media with piracy videos. That way we will lose our interest in it and that would be huge loss to the movie makers since India the most populated country in the world. They should have released it first in India along with USA in my opinion. And also, for the whole uncut version to watch on OTT, we will have to wait for extra 2-3 months which will be frustrating to me personally because I was eagerly waiting to watch it in the theater since the trailer came out.

    1st and foremost.
    RAMAYAN is not MYTHOLGY …. It is Itihaas. Ithaas means as it happened.
    Please stop reaffirming the western take on our Itihaas and give way to this whole narrative which is essentially based on slander and mockery.
    Hanuman ji is not a Monkey as Dev Patel describes it. He is a Vanar which also means a Man of the Jungle/ Forest. Two very different connotations.
    He is a representation of so many so many aspirational qualities. Devotion and strength being the top most of them.
    Dev Patel is unfortunately one of many Hindus who have been torn apart from their civilisation and culture through western education. The western mind and lens is completely different from an Indian mind and lens. Their take on our civilisation and culture is muddled up with prejudice and hate due to religious aspects.
    Things that we find extremely off putting is a repeat of the age old Leftists/ Marxist/ Islamists trope on us Hindus.
    It’s the same old, same old portrayal of Hindus as some sort of demonic cult. A very Abrahamic lens of “ OTHERING “.
    We are nothing like what gets portrayed. There’s so much life, love, joy , colour, celebration, scientific rigour, sacrifice for a greater cause like family,a deep ethical code and appreciation for all living beings.
    The colour saffron evokes emotions of great sacrifice and duty but instead movies like Monkey Man give the colour and what it represents as villainous- demonic cult representation.
    Sad!!! If it was purely action and story based movie, I would probably watch it. Dev Patel you could do better.
    Need to stop demonising Saffron.

    • @1999NIRUPAM
      @1999NIRUPAM 5 месяцев назад +3

      lol looks like it hit your political feelings more than your religious ones.
      He wasn’t mocking saffron or the religion. Just those who use these things to exercise control over society and the minds of the people.
      In fact towards the end of the movie you see dev Patel pray to lord Hanuman for courage before the fight. The movie itself ends with a beautiful mantra that describes the attitude of Hindus towards what is known as god or reality, far from a demonic cult but a collective of beautiful perspectives on reality and truth.

    • @GauriEngineer
      @GauriEngineer 5 месяцев назад

      @@1999NIRUPAM no not political at all. If it hit anything, it is the constant peddling of such narratives ever since the British destroyed our education system.
      These damaging and incorrect narratives have on ground effects with so many Hindu students being attacked and heavily discriminated against, especially in foreign campuses. I was so looking forward to this movie thinking it will be a rich cultural portrayal of Indian culture with Lord Hanuman being center stage but now seeing the reviews saying its Slumdog millionaire meets John Wick, I think I am not going to waste my money on another Hindu Bashing, poverty porn movie catering to the western audiences. The current Modi government may not be a favorite with many "liberals" but most people in West do not know Modi himself belongs to so called "low caste' and in fact the elitist Opposition continuously hounded him and made fun of his humble beginning's innumerable times. I myself used to believe that RSS (Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh) which is Modi's parent organization was a fanatic organization having studied in Missionary school where the nuns missed no opportunity bashing RSS it but there is no denying that RSS actually wants united Hindus and wants to remove caste. If Hindus unite this will be counterproductive for western forces who fund missionaries to convert lower caste Hindus and poor tribal people in India so obviously West hates Modi!

    I am a long-time fan of both of you and your channel. However, of late, I regret to inform you that Korbin's part is becoming increasingly muddled and he needs to speak up and speak clearly - that is, if your target audience is Indians in India.
    Regarding Monkey Man, excellent review. Regarding sensitivities, the only complaint is that movie makers misinterpret religious text and stuff it down our throat.
    If you are referring to political authoritarianism, all I can say is this. You have seen traffic on our roads. If some one talks about streamlining flow of vehicles, Indians will scream of an impending police state. Americans should agree that some order has to be enforced in society.
    Suggestion - Moving forward, see if you can learn an Indian language, could be Bengali.
