The Bonzer is the archetype of the modern surfboard. It was the first standardized tri-fin surfboard created in 1970 by Malcom and Duncan Campbell. Bought a Bonzer (mid 90's) to take with me to Tavarua and was really excited to try it out at Cloudbreak, but the very first wave I dropped in on, I didn't turn fast enough as the wave pitched... Caught the nose perfectly and snapped it off... no reflection on the quality of the glass job, just bad luck. Head high swell and we had been flying for forever on Quantas to get there so I was eager to get waves.
Sat in the panga (forever it seemed:) watching my buddy catch waves... we looked for the nose later hoping to glass it back on, but no luck. Drank a few Bitters (extra) that night and toasted Malcom & his brother :)
