Thank you! I now finally understand the distinction between the term witch and cunning folk🙂 I'm fairly new to the study of witchcraft and not a native English speaker, and I've been hearing the term cunning folk so often but this is the best and clearest definition I've come across :-) so thanks for clarifying the mystery for me😊🩷❣️

I've switched over to using animism in lieu of shamanism for most Indo-European practices and beliefs.

What books would you go to for indo-european exercises to build yourself up. Currently doing other things, but I always am looking for something more of pre-chistian european origin at least in spirit. I want something more than basic folk charms, vauge and fluffy stuff or stuff that's only superficially european.

    it´s because the general thing
    didn´t exist, so what happened
in many places was the most
    common / valued practice
    became the general term!
i would say almost all the
    classifications have been
    made by the researchers (who
    weren´t practicioners
    themselves).
for example in the uralic areas
    (specifically khanty people)
they had 1) those who tell
stories by the fire, 2) those
    who sing with stringed instruments,
    3) those who predict from dreams,
    4) those who speak with animal sounds
or summon animal spirits (also called
"funny men") and 5) those who heal
and make spirit travels to other
    realms (sometimes using the
    drum).
so the actual title of the witch
came from what they do (mant
    =to tell) and gender (ku=man,
    mant-ku, telling man).
also from there you can see that
what is known as "shaman" in
    general knowledge is just one
    of those many categories.
    in (undisturbed) folk traditions
    there IS no divide between
witch / shaman (in finnish even
the word is the same, everyone is
simply noita, which in modern terms
    means both, but originally probably
    only one category).
the good vs. evil thing has no place
there, probably made up by some
    troubled individuals.. black
    shamans, white shamans, incorrect,
    night shamans, day shamans,
    closer :)
    (it´s probably the southern style
dual creator thinking (god vs. stan)
that led them astray, it´s not good
    for you, don´t do it)

      could also be life shamans
      vs. death shamans.. but even
      there they (researchers)
      say that the death shamans
      were a late addition.
      (there is no actual split
to black and white in the
      uralic cultures, but i know
that it exists in more eastern
      parts)
      in magical terms i´d say
      it was more like future,
      past and present (sky being
      future and earth past,
      or underearth).
      future was considered the
      hardest, which is obvious from
      just watching tarot readers
      (SO wrong, ALL the time).
also i´m not saying that they
didn´t do harm, i´m saying that
      they didn´t want to harm
      their OWN people (those who
      claim that do not understand
      traditional living, at all).

      i actually agree with death
      shamans being late additions
because it seems to go in line
      with all the horrible diseases
      that were brought there
      (here too i guess, just
      earlier).
      none of the magical branches
      have come from nothing, there´s
      a genuine need behind them.
one big branch was finding /
      hiding magic.. before cattle maybe
not as big, of course there´s lost
      items too, and people.
      find the lost child.. there´s
the true witch test, can you do
it? i couldn´t, not from sitting
      in a tent.

    • @joutavainen2920

also i want to say that in some parts
of the uralic lands you had to do six
seven year cycles to be able to call
yourself a full witch / shaman.
these people are / were SERIOUS
magical practioners, with high level of
      discipline (all the jedi practice
shit, straight up stolen from shaman
      practice, blindfolds all that).
what the evil ones have done they´ve
tried to label them as some sort of
child killers or other horrible acts
(because that´s what they do, in
the name of all mighty stupid).
that´s why every time anyone says
      "christianity is a beautiful religion"
i throw up a little (outside my mouth).
:) (i try to put smilies, otherwise
people think i´m angry, just passionate)
