Fluke did a great job of introducing this fantastic meter in the Asian market which is plagued with cheap unsafe meters.
Although this being a low end budget meter costs a premium here in India, But then again its a Fluke you can never go wrong with it.

I have this meter and very pleased with it - though it should be duly noted it has very robust input protection much the same or even better as other Flukes - and for those who know him Joe Smiths channel tested the input protection and it held up to I believe 8,000 or 10,000 volts --- way beyond its rated specification. In fact the 17B+ actually out performed the much more expensive 87V which failed input protection testing much sooner, very surprising and part of what convinced me to buy this meter along with it passing all its other tests.
Thanks! I've been suffering with crappy meters for years and years because I just won't shell out the big bucks for a Fluke 87V. I looked at other Flukes, but the 114 thru 117 aren't suitable for hobbyists/makers, they're for electricians. Now this meter... this is the one!!!

Thanks for the review! I was searching for a review that showed the response time of the continuity beep, and you demonstrated this nicely. It was my only hesitation in ordering one, and now it's on its way!
Hi Paul, I just received my Fluke 18B+ (similar to 17B+). Checked continuity response time and it wasn't so good. So it won't beep unless you make contact for some time. This means you can't wipe the probe across connector contacts to find the connection. Other than that, meter is well made. Probe leads aren't as good as traditional Flukes
While researching this meter before ordering it, this video didn't come up in my search. I've been waiting a little over a month for it arrive from China, but tracking info reflects that it entered the USA yesterday.
As anyone would, I'm looking forward to it's arrival and found this video tonight.

You provided lots of helpful links and did an OUTSTANDING job of giving everyone a clear and straight forward overview without all the annoying poor audio, stupid jokes, useless information, background noise, inadequate lighting, poor camera angles and retarded music in the background that seems to be the hallmark of so many other RUclips videos.

I bought a 17B+ recently and its one of the best purchases ive ever made. Its got the Fluke build quality and accuracy easily meets its published specs, im very pleased especially after seeing the serious input protection inside that speaks for itself. In my opinion two of the best meters are Flukes and Brymens also rebadged as Greenlee, I have a Greenlee as well and both are top quality meters and a great value.

Which greenlee DMM do you own? Im considering a brymen/fluke/greenlee & I want one that takes AA batteries & a fast continuity tester and I cant decide what to buy?
I just bought this meter. My suggestion is to get rid of the crappy stiff probes that come with it and get some probemasters. They are made in America and are some of the best test leads I have ever used.

Regarding difference between the 117 and 17B+ , I think you meant the 117 lacks MICROamps. I believe it can read milliamps (perhaps with moving the decimal).

Can the 17b+ safely be used on household "mains" and automotive voltages?
It cost more than 100 dollars in dubai...but for the feature its reasonable. Your paying not on the brand name but for the safety
I'd like to see a review of the Fluke 12E+ and how it compares with the 15B+ and 17B+. It's a model apparently made only in China.

The screen on mine is horrible if held at an angle; is mine a Fluke? Sometimes I can see the weird inking on the LCD like it is really good.

lol its less so street cred more so an expectation, in my industry I have never seen anything but fluke, and around 480V you really should not even think about using one of those harbor freight deals...... another issue is that if you dont trust your meter then you need to troubleshoot your problem and the test you setup
My only concern is: being made in China (QC varies from industry to industry), how reliable is this meter and how long will it last?
You helped me decide between 17B+ versus 117, thank you. For calibration I am just curious do we need special cable for it?
I'm not aware of a calibration cable for this model.
now review my fluke 18B+,same I think except mine test L.E.D. And the 17B+ does temp..I already have two meter with a temp probe ,so I bought the one with the L.E.D.tester.

Hello. I have an old Yokawawa 7544 25 years old. True RMS. I have a question for you. How many volts do you have in diode posición. I have 5 volts in mine. How about Fluke 17B. By the way yours is not RMS.

Does anyone know how long the backlight stays on for? I was after a descent meter that does not time out the backlight after 10 secs like my old one. Thanks.
Great question. I know it stays on longer than 10 seconds. I think it stays on until the meter auto-power-off feature kicks in. I will test later and let you know.
@@Componentfun Thanks that would be great. I always had a Fluke (work provided) but now with change of career I bought a cheap n cheerful meter thinking it would do. I miss the little chirp it does when you measure a diode or transistor junction. You could fault find a board without really looking up. I take it this does the little chirp on diode test? Thanks for taking the time to look at the backlight for me.

@@Componentfun I got one last week and I have discovered if you hold down the LIGHT button while turning the meter on it disables the auto off light mode. Stays on as long as it powered on 😊
Is this multimeter True RMS? I can't seem to find any information even on the Fluke website.
I don't think it is a True RMS meter. Not absolutely sure however.
@jam Sure, but if you work with power inverters that are not pure sine wave, these non True RMS Digital Multimeters will give an incorrect reading, I think a basic model like the Fluke 115 will do.
@@Componentfun It is not true RMS. Fluke won't sell true RMS at low prices!! I have been using a CIE 8050 (a Taiwanese brand) true RMS multimeter since 2009. Great build quality. It costs less than half the price. of Flukes.

anybody in electronics knows damn right well, you don't sit around worrying about making a mistake in doing your testing, total bs
@Paul I forgot that only noobs accidentally leave their meters in Ohms mode when they meant to measure Volts. A seasoned professional would never do that, no matter how busy, tired, or decaffeinated they may be, so you can just ignore the safety section of this video. It's like gun handling - only noobs forget to unload the last round. A professional never needs to check to make sure it's unloaded, because professionals never make mistakes.

I think the issue is the use of the word review in the title, this video was more of an overview than a review. Either way, it's a great video and I want to stress that, but I'm still left wondering how well it might work for my needs since little to none of it's functionality was shown. Based on the latching speeds of the continuity test shown, I'm not impressed but I suppose that's part of the price point to consider.

The only problem I had with what he said is how infrequent people blow fuses. However, that's what ever lol. The fluke 117 is the state's budget, however it does less than this and this almost competes with the 87. So it's what ever.
total bs, first of all, yes the fluke meter is a quality meter, probably the best out there, but the prices they sell them for are outrageous, completely out of tune with reality, just greedy mfr's as far as I'm concerned, I was in fact in electronics half my life, so don't tell me these meters are not way over priced. they are. 2nd, anybody that blows up a meter, should never have been working around electricity in the first place. total bs.
I dont have that much expierience in electronics only 3.5 years but tell me a meter that has a better cost to value ration than flukes at work we have 2 brands of dmm fluke and old beha amprobe (i know now they are slso fluke owned ) but our 40 year old fluke 77 are still working and in spec 5 year old amprobe meters start to fail in calibration also every meter that is reliable and safe cost alot of money no trust worthy meter costs 10 dollar even my extech ex 330 that was 60 bucks was out of spec after 2 years light use
