Thanks for reacting to him.
Check out who is in the backing band, an amazing group of 70s rock stars including Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Jennifer Warnes... brought together by T Bone Burnett. A big chunk of musical history in shared admiration for one of the greatest voices of the 60s.
I always heard the song as a man feeling insecure in his relationship. Being scared of losing the girlfriend to her old boyfriend should he one day appear. To which he (the old boyfriend) one day did appear but she the girlfriend; then turned around and walked away with me. As is the closing words of the song. I love watching your channel by the way. Hello from London England 🏴
one of the very best voices in pop. this concert is brilliant from start to finish. it's a live roy orbison greatest hits. sadly, roy died only a year later.
When Elvis Presley returned from the army in 1960, a reporter asked him who his favorite Rock 'n' Roll singer was. Elvis seemed to think about it for a second, then he answered, "Roy Orbison."
I love your reaction at the end of the song. I remember when i was in high school i used to keep my dinner money and go to a cafe and play It's Over by Roy and Rag Doll by The Four Seasons. Great memories.
Food for thought, Elvis, Jonny Cash and Roy Orbison all signed with Sun Records at the same time and were great friends. Elvis thought Roy had the greatest voice he had ever heard. Give one of Roys songs to a contemporary singer of today and listen to what you get.
The story I have heard is that when he recorded this, he was singing the ending in falsetto. The engineer said he couldn't pick it up, so why don't you just sing it full voice? Until that time it seems he didn't know he could, and thus was born his trademark. Too bad you couldn't hear the clip from Austin City Limits, where he sings the ending at least two times, maybe more. That's the way he always did it in his shows.
When he switched to his natural voice the first time the result was such a shock that the musicians stopped playing. I have read that this was he final song in his concerts, but I saw him twice and both times he sang it in the middle of his set. And both times the audience would demand he sing the ending at least half a dozen times.
You need to understand that "Black and White Night" was a concert to honor Roy at the end of his career, the backup performers were the best in the business and for them it was an honor and privilege to be part of this. Roy ranks with the VERY BEST of the best, one of the few that not only wrote his own songs, but could performed them better than anyone else.
India, this was not Roy's full vocals (except for this particular song). For his best, full-range vocal performances, try "Leah", "Crying", "In Dreams", and "It's Over" - all of these ('60s hit) songs are on this same A Black & White Night special.
Roy Orbison, with the Legendary Voice from '50's ON, grew up in Far West Texas, Wink, Tx. by Odessa and Pecos. Was in bands early, had bad eyes and a very joyous and very trajic LIFE. Many hit songs and fame , great iconic song writer. Should check into his life and his kids and wife dying in separate accidents , ETC. One of the MOST famous Singers and Songwriters EVER. Pretty Woman, and many other hits. International Star during 5 decades. Traveling wilbury's member with dylan, george harrison, etc. just before he died.
You ever wonder how much influence he had just watch Black and White.Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Jackson Brown, Tom Waits & JD. Souther playing back up for him. K.D. Lang & Bonnie Raitt as backup singers. Then look at the stars in the audience.
He and this woman were in a new relationship and he was still not completely confident, unsure of himself, afraid that if her former lover showed up her old feelings would take over and she would go back to him. So, he was running scared each place they would go, afraid they would run into him. Then, one day, suddenly it happened, they ran into her old lover. And, when the time came for her to make her choice, she chose Roy. I know this song so well because when my wife and I first started dated I was afraid that one day we would run into her ex-husband and she would choose him over me. I tortured myself constantly playing this song. Almost sixteen years of marriage and two beautiful children later and we are going stronger than ever. It wasn't until we were married for probably ten years that she told me that even before we started dating, when we were still becoming friends, that her ex had called her and wanted her back. Before she even knew I was ever going to ask her out, she had already made her choice. I win! (And, speaking of Elvis, that was Elvis Costello playing guitar directly behind Springsteen)

He was a remarkable writer, composer and singer. He wrote music completely wrong, according to the music of the time. 50s and 69s and blew everyone's mind. He changed music forever. Thanks for reacting to him.
The Traveling Wilburys were never the same when the Big O died.
Crying, You Got It, Dream Baby, Blue Bayou, and Only The Lonely! Roy was just awesome! 🙌💯
This is my favorite Roy Orbison song... a whole love story told in 180 seconds.
So glad someone is reacting to Roy. Black ‘ White DVD is Stellar! Everyone who is anyone is singing with him.
Roy ...Roy...no words . Roy.
Fantastic reaction from you India! I remember all of Roys releases everyone of the amazing. Elvis was in awe of Roys voice.
There's no other way to understand it. the meaning is obvious from start to finish.
one of the very best voices in pop. this concert is brilliant from start to finish. it's a live roy orbison greatest hits. sadly, roy died only a year later.
When Elvis Presley returned from the army in 1960, a reporter asked him who his favorite Rock 'n' Roll singer was. Elvis seemed to think about it for a second, then he answered, "Roy Orbison."
I love your reaction at the end of the song. I remember when i was in high school i used to keep my dinner money and go to a cafe and play
It's Over by Roy and Rag Doll by The Four Seasons.
Fred Foster his friend and producer told him your going to have to do that in full voice .
Omg! The voice of an angel.
His voice soooooo beautiful, I love his music you got listen to CRYING,,PRETTY WOMAN LOVE YOUR REACTION YAZZ
One of the most purest voices ever!
The perfect voice of the Master. 3 octaves range, soft and strong, haunting vibrato...
This is awesome, please do more Roy Orbison! I also recommend the Everly Brothers, especially performances from the 1983 Reunion concert.
India, this was not Roy's full vocals (except for this particular song). For his best, full-range vocal performances, try "Leah", "Crying", "In Dreams", and "It's Over" - all of these ('60s hit) songs are on this same A Black & White Night special.
Saw the Big O live a few months before he died. Still had that voice.
This is a TRUE goosebump test, no bumps then u ain't human. What a cast for this show!!!
One of the great singers of boomer generation! Much loved entertainer!!!!!!!!!
Play more!!!!!!!!!!
ROY ORBISION was the man see if you pick out the future rock and role artist playing guitar
Excellent!! Keep him . Only the lonely, pretty woman ,and you got it great songs
